Reminds me of being a Padres fan in the 80s and my grandmother telling me the joke of a thief stealing everything from her car but leaving his pair of Padres tickets on the dash. That’s the stage Texas basketball is in. emoji31.png

Graig Nettles, Craig Lefferts and Carmelo Martinez weep.  Eric Show and Alan Wiggins would, if they could.

Too soon?

ESPN has Texas in the should be in category at 88%.  Does provide a caveat that they need some impressive wins since they are 1-6 against top 50 bpi teams. Missouri win counts as top 50 but that was far from impressive.

Georgia 54%, Missouri 52%, Arkansas 39%, Oklahoma 39% and Vanderbilt 24% have work to do.

Anybody want my pair of tix for tonight for free? Indeed Club, a few rows behind Texas bench (not in student section). I don’t want to deal with driving.

Let me call you back.  I got a guy on the other line who wants to buy a set of white walls

Feels like we need 6-1 or 5-2 against the "non-ranked group" of LSU, arky (x2), Vandy, SoCar, Georgia, OU.  That gets us to 7/8 SEC wins. 7 may get us in, 8 would guarantee it with the strength of the SEC.

IF we take care of business against the non-ranked group, we don't really need a win against the "ranked group" (aggy, Ole Miss, Alabama, Kentucky, MSST), but would increase our margin for error if we stumble against the non-ranked group.

Feels like for every additional loss to the non-ranked group, we need to pick up a ranked win.   Can RT and co take care of business against LSU, arky, Vandy, SoCar, Georgia and OU and pick up another ranked win to seal the deal?

If we win those 6 games, we are in 100%.  8-10 easily gets you in from the SEC this year.  7-11 might get you in depending on the specific wins and losses.

I agree. IF we go 6-1 in those games, we are in. But will we win 6 of those 7? Who the fuck knows

Thank you @TheCorralUT for willing us to last night’s WIN over a ranked and well-coached Missouri team. YOU are the difference maker!

Need ALL of you on Saturday (1:30 pm) back in The Mood, as you can make an unbelievable impact against Texas A&M.

Arkansas is done. They haven't won a SEC game and lost their best player for the year a couple days ago.

Both those games are must wins for us now.

a comment i’ve already made on the team that was reinforced to me last night- this team has no play makers and limited IQ.

i went to the game last night with a buddy whose seats are behind the basket, and it drove me crazy how many open passing lanes our players didn’t see- both guards and otherwise.

im watching the game from the “all 22” pov and im constantly seeing that a)shedrick is wide open on/near the block, b)pope never ever notices this, and c)shedrick himself is clearly unaware that he is actually wide open for a one handed post entry pass as his eyes never even look towards pope, nor does he ever call for the ball. i watch this happen, and then i watch one guy dribble the ball for 15 seconds while no one moves, followed by a bad shot. all night, repeatedly. shit was bleak. really hard to watch considering this is without a doubt a second weekend level roster.

someone here was talking about this team being the best shooting team ever at Texas. it’s not, but it’s still one of the better shooting teams we’ve ever had. 2005 was the best shooting team in the last couple decades- paulino, boobie, and abrams all shot 39% or better from deep, while LA and PJ were pretty lethal inside the 3 point line; 2010 had crazy offensive fire power which i mentioned in my previous post; 2011 had JB, Joseph, and Hamilton all shooting 39% or better from deep with gary johnson as a good mid range shooter.

this year’s team has lots of scoring talent but takes a ton of stupid shots and ensures a ton of empty possessions. i can’t even imagine what Tre would look like if he had a coach who didn’t give him carte blanche to shoot any terrible shot he wants. this team is adept at scoring and has some guys shot can really shoot, but our shot selection and inconsistency will keep us from approaching our offensive potential.

Counterpoint: I don’t want Shedrick to get the ball down there. Assuming he catches the pass, half the time it gets stripped and he takes sooooo long to make a move.

actually larry isn’t bad. i wish he’d get more minutes at the point. our starting five should probably be

larry

pope

johnson

kaluma

kent

weaver, mark, pryor, onyema to round out to rotation.

That’s funny cause a buddy (who isn’t a Texas fan) and I were watching the last game and he asked what the Larry kid did well…I honestly couldn’t think of anything

Two things that drive me crazy about Larry - 1) he hops around like a rabbit when he has the ball and occasionally commits a stupid turnover from being off balance because of it; 2) constantly putting his hands behind his back on defense as some sort of mechanism to show the ref he isn’t fouling.

Even if he catches the ball there's still a 50/50 chance that in the effort to retrieve said pass he throws off his equilibrium and ultimately falls to the floor while losing the ball out of bounds.

i think he has the best natural vision on the team. AAMOF our best three man lineup features larry at the point:
