Well, the game's not 'til 5, & we kinda lost a rather important matchup in another sport a little over 12 hours ago.

Yeah, UT men’s sports this weekend…

Every time I go to the espn app to watch a game because the game before ours has gone long, it never starts on time on the app. "Your program hasn't started yet", with a minute gone in the game and Tennessee up 3-0.

Last second three by Johnson for the cover 74-70. It's called gambling for a reason.

Remember when both were ranked in the top 20?

You mean the pre-season? Because as far as I know we started the season ranked #19, lost the first game, and have never returned to the top 25. I am not sure a ranking based on a 0-0 record really reflects much...besides the fact there should not be preseason rankings.

Anyway Texas Men's Basketball couldn't be more boring under Terry. There is no juice around this program. I will check out the rest of the season, but I really think we need to make a change.

When did the SEC start getting good at basketball?

I thought it was the ACC and Big 12.

Now the SEC have the best teams??

It used to be just Kentucky.

Bama has been good under Oats; they were in the Final Four last year. Tennessee under Barnes has had success too. Pearl has put Auburn into the mix, he may be scummy, but he can coach. Golden at Florida is also scummy but can also coach. It's been coming and now it's here. OU and Texas were supposed to add to this success, but not so much.

Also, some upstart named Beard has turned around what was the worst team in the league.

Yeah, the SEC started hiring good coaches and taking it seriously

Student section was probably 80% full for Auburn on a Tuesday night so this was clearly a who gives a shit showing for students. So where does that leave the old Erwin Center debate about student attendence vs quality of seats?

I think I can see half of me on the edge of that picture. The wristband checker was letting people go snag the unclaimed T-shirts at halftime so we got a couple of those.

Since this team is about as fun to watch as watching paint dry, I'm looking for other things to entertain myself.

Has anyone else noticed the inordinately high number of guys we have on the team with 2 first names?

Tramon Mark

Julian Larry

Kadin Shedrick

Jayson Kent

Preston Clark

Nic Codie

Malik Presley

Weird.

RT inspires no confidence in the fans, does he even do the same fan outreach stuff that Beard did?

Everyone I talk to is done with the guy already. We aren't likely to make the tourney this year, but I imagine his fate depends on who they think they can get.

I can't imagine them bringing him back. I can't remember a time when the fan base was this checked out on basketball. I guess maybe during Shaka, but this feels worse.

I'm curious as to how this lethargy affects recruiting as well.  I check 247 and on3 almost daily.  I haven't seen a "crystal ball" or whatever on3 does for Texas basketball in months.  Sucks because I was a Texas basketball fan before I was a Texas football fan - thanks BMW - but I don't even care to watch 5 mins of this crap right now.  I did check the box score during the game and saw that, w/o Tre's stats, the team was shooting 13 of 43 at one point.  Good Lord.

This was the dead giveaway as to how the season was going to go.

Of course I know, and yes I remember. I meant the modern era of college basketball and not 40 years ago.

As I recall they weren't using peach baskets at this time, you might want to expand your modern era.

You are being weirdly antagonistic. Fuck off.

I watched games from the second row under Weltlich, and that’s definitely not where my seats were.

I will never forget Weltlich chewing out Pat Fairs for dunking.

It sucks this team is so boring because I really like our top 2 guys (Johnson, Kaluma).  Pope had a decent game against TN, but he and Larry are just completely outclassed in this league.  I don't understand why Larry is on the court with under 2 minutes left, even with Weaver out.

Tre was the best player on the court Saturday.  We did a great job on Lanier.  They just had more dudes than us (specifically Dubar and Gainey coming off the bench).  If we are average from 3 or even a little worth, we win.

The problem is the inconsistency of our top players. Mark should be one of the top players at least in scoring and he isn't. Johnson has been great at time and not so great at other times, but he is a freshman and that should be expected. Kaluma runs hot and cold. Against Auburn he had 34 points to keep Texas in the game, then against Tennessee he has 4 points. Pope is also inconsistent. The inside game as most know is just not there.

Texas needs more balanced scoring, not just one guy going off sometimes. They can't keep getting killed on the boards and better defense against the dribble drive to the rim. Texas played well enough to stay close and even lead at home against Auburn and Tennessee and then fell apart in crunch time.

The road in the SEC is frightening for the most part. Texas has a shot against a faltering OU team maybe, but that Florida game is another thing. They are one of those frightening games.

This team is boring? They have an electric freshman and just took two top 5 teams to the wire at home.

Not sure that they're "good". Think RT should be coaching for his job down the stretch here but I think they could string some wins together.

I was parroting the prior posts.  Boring isn’t a good adjective.  I’ve really enjoyed Tre this year.   And notwithstanding his bad game against TN, like Kaluma as well.  But rest of team is just lacking any identity.

The SEC is a basketball conference now

I have been thinking about this team a lot.  We have a lot of pretty good athletes (maybe 11 deep) who most aren't particularly good at basketball. Why not try something totally off the wall, like a 40 minutes of hell, wall to wall pressing style and use all of our guys? Play a 7 seconds or less offensive style. We have nothing to lose and this team isn't going to do shit playing dribble handoff to hero-ball.
