For one gross, they should show this shit to middle schoolers.  You can be anything you want, even if you gnaw on your hand like a goddamn beaver.

Doesn't matter, he'll decline anyway. He'll get 2-3 years for plenty more on the market.

Am I misunderstanding his contract? It’s a team option for next year, but if he hits 300 IP combined for ‘23&’24 that option becomes player option.

No, we can't keep him for $20M even if he doesn't throw another pitch this season.

Yeah I know that would be bad for multiple reasons, and with ownership being absolute scrooges I can’t see any scenario where we shell out close to what he’s going to get offered on the open market. Maybe Kumar and Jack make us forget about him….

Eovaldi has a player option for $20 million with no buyout if he throws another 16 innings this year, though that almost certainly would be declined by Eovaldi unless he suffers a major injury between pitching his 16th inning the rest of the way and the deadline for option decisions, which is right after the World Series.

According to the source, the deal includes a bonus of $3 million per year for reaching 160 innings pitched. The $20 million option for 2025 vests with 300 innings across the next two seasons, with another $3 million of incentives. Eovaldi will have a base salary of $16 million in both '23 and '24, plus a $2 million signing bonus. The deal can max out at $63 million.

We just need to make him a fair offer pretty damn quick.

2/$36M, maybe to get started.

I haven't been following, what's he projected to get if he hits the open market?
