Give up 13 hits and 6 walks, you're not very likely to win. Get some rest tomorrow and let's get back at 'em on Wednesday.

JV still fine tuning things

It also looked like the final game in an 18 game stretch.

Good point, but find it funny that these guys need so much rest when playing what 7-8 months out of the year for 5-6 hours a day.

Reds have played 27 games in 29 days. Just FYI.

I tire from my job sitting behind a computer for 8-10 hours 5 out of every 7 days .

i can’t imagine playing a 162 game schedule in 184 days. I

why?  He enticed a popup with a .210 xba.  Baseball.

It was the farthest that JV has been stretched since coming back from DL and he struggled all day.  You have a fresh arm warmed and ready to go to get the final out.  You have an off day tomorrow, so no need to be overly cautious with the bullpen usage.

There was no reason to keep JV in the game except to give him a chance to get the third out so he would qualify for the win if the boys took the lead in T6.  At this stage, 300 wins is a pipe dream. Let it go, JV.

I posted my comment before that hit occurred.   It was a bad managerial decision before the bad result.

Set up man for life

I'd like to see one good year from him out of the bullpen, establish himself as a major leaguer, and then see where we are at.  He has enough pitches that you really want him to be a starter.  Maybe he's proved he can't be, or maybe you just don't have a pressing need if Ullola and Blubaugh are dudes and we sign someone else.

If he's a Bryan Abreu guy I guess that would be a horrifying outcome when he was the #1 pitching prospect in baseball, but a tremendous outcome from where we were 2 or 3 years ago.

Whitley is finding professional success for the first time in like five years, so of course we have morons (not you putt) immediately wanting to move him back to the rotation.

tall and long hair

hopefully we can coach him up the same way

Most strikeouts by a pitcher through their first 6 appearances with the @Astros franchise (1962-):
61- Randy Johnson
61- Gerrit Cole
48- Justin Verlander
47- Yusei Kikuchi (Via 12 Ks in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Royals)
41- Roger Clemens
41- Colin McHugh
40- Lance McCullers Jr.

The trade for Kikuchi continues to look pretty damn good.

Hader AL reliever of the month

13.1 IP, 0.68 ERA, 8 saves, 17 Ks

Gave up almost as many ER (1) as he did hits (3) for the month.  Crazy.  1 BS.  Of course it wouldn't have been blown if Pena didn't have a skillet for a glove, but we won the game so alls well that ends well.
