We could basically be done with this division of the Rangers could hold onto a 4 run lead and not get walked off the next day. It’s a bit irritating.
27 games left (14 for us and 13 for them) and magic number of 10. We go 7-7 and they’d need to go 11-2 to beat us. Not likely to happen.
we have 8 games between here and that series against the Angels and Padres. If we go 6-2 there’s a good chance Seattle (7 games left during that time with rangers and Yankees) will be eliminated before they even get to town. That would be nice and funny. 6-2 also likely puts us in range to be able to run down Cleveland with a sweep in the last series of the year. If we’d have won that extra inning abortion against the A’s of if the rangers could hold on to a simple 4 run lead the math would be super grim for Seattle.

Weird, I was literally in the middle of posting something very similar, right down to the 7-7 vs. 11-2.  Projected finishes are 88-74 and 82-80, respectively.

97% chance to win the division per Fangraphs, but I don't like that Seattle is once again still lurking in the final stretch with an unlikely but possible path.

Wrap up the sweep today, take at least 1 in San Diego, then feast on the Halos again next weekend and we should be sitting pretty comfortable.

Not worried one bit about Seattle. We should get that magic number of 10 by ourselves.

More concerned with whether that’s good enough to run down the 2 seed

would mean Cleveland would have to go 5-8. On one hand, not likely. On the other, that’s 5-5 over their next 10 (just like they’ve done their last 10) and then an Astros sweep the last series.

if anything, I want Seattle to hang in there so we’ll keep pushing for that 2. I’m not convinced we start seeing all Grae, Chas, Gamel, etc if we wrap us the west in the next week.

mostly I just wish our actual record matched our expected w/l: 84-64… 1.5 back of the 1 seed.

i’m blaming the gap between actual and expected solely in Espada. Costing us 4 games this year feels about right

Looks like we get most of their best pitchers?  They don’t get the JV bye. Or blanco. Those are the two weakest links in our 6 man staff right now I think (unless Arrighetti has his monthly blow up), so cool cool cool- let’s just win today and then go 6-1 or 5-2 at worst next week headed into the Seattle series. That should bring us within striking distance of Cleveland in the last week since we finish with them.

Cleveland has:

1 with the Rays today

4 with Minnesota

3 @ STL

2 home with reds

I’m going to be optimistic and predict 4-6 for them in those 10 games

I’m going to furthermore be optimistic and predict 8-3 for us heading into that series.

Cleveland 89-70

Houston- 88-81

That would mean if we won 2/3 we’d finish at 90-72 and have the tiebreaker on them and the 2 seed.  We’d also, under that scenario, need the Royals to go 8-5 or worse.

10-4 finishing kick boys- that should get it done.  I wouldn’t mind erasing all doubt with 14-0 I suppose

Yeah. Thats what I said yesterday just without the records. Gotta make up 3.5 in the next 11 (was 12 yesterday and both won). Then win the final series and you get the 2.

not easy but not impossible. Our hopes rest on Minnesota pulling their heads out (8-17 since August 18). Down to only a 2.5 lead over Detroit for last WC.

17 games left unless you're foreshadowing and that's okay too.
