Yordan officially has a sprained right knee. Not available this series.

Still hope he can play in Cleveland. Going to be difficult to win a game in this series without him and having to insert some shitty player into the lineup in his place. Espada has no imagination with the lineup either. I'd put Tucker at 1 and Altuve at 2. Give him someone that can fucking work a count and take a walk in the leadoff spot.

This team is dead man walking if they even make the playoffs. They would have to go on an insane run to win it all. But overall the season could have been a worse disaster and has ended up pretty good considering the decade long run we’ve been on.

For real, we started the year sucking with Alvarez hitting two hole.   We get hot with Bregman hitting two hole and Alvarez 3.  He then flips them back

at the end of the year.

I mean I don’t think it’s a bad take to see we don’t have the offense to produce consistently to back up good SP or the bullpen to win the WS. It would take a run against the best teams in baseball to win it all. Could it happen? Sure. But this team is different than years past. We suck some serious dick at home. What’s the magic number now? 2?

Newsflash: We're one of the best teams in baseball and have been for nearly a decade.

That’s a little pessimistic.  Analytics minded folks would say there’s a spectrum of outcomes and the MLB playoffs aren’t designed to produce the best team.  Let’s not forget the run the Rangers went on just last year and the fact the 2019 Astros were the best team in baseball (and it wasn’t close) and still lost because Steven Strasburg’s neck survived one season too long and Howie Kendrick got lucky.

we are like 31-18 at home since June 1st and only like 4 teams have more home wins than us

Those numbers are obviously great. But as 2 of the 18 losses have come since noon Sunday, with the bullpen giving up 12 runs in the process, fans are still going to be on edge as we try to close out the division. Especially with 44 still unavailable. Framber really needs to be special again today, and some bats had better step up to help Yainer. Seattle pitches too well to make this easy

It's painful to relitigate this, but Kendrick did not get "lucky."  He put a good swing on a very good pitch.  Harris has nothing to be ashamed of, and Kendrick can be justifiably proud of his accomplishment.

Lucky in a statistical sense.  You and I both know that pitch a half inch up or down and the batted ball performs differently.

If it makes you doomsayers feel any better, take a look at the statistics of the other playoff candidates in both leagues.  We’re a little spoiled because the of how well balanced most of the Astros teams have been during this run, but pretty much everyone has a hole or has to pick between defense and offense at a couple of key positions (just like us).

Get your fancy facts, data, and logical thought out of here!  We react with our gut based only on the most recent performance, and that's that.

ESPNs David Schoenfield graded every teams season. Only 4 teams got an A- or higher (Cleveland, Milwaukee, Philly and KC). Here's the Astros blurb:

Houston Astros: B

The dynasty is bending, but it's not yet broken. The Astros looked lost the first couple of months of the season and fell 10 games behind Seattle on June 18. The rotation was hobbled and those who were healthy weren't pitching well. The offense was scuffling. Luckily, Houston was in the AL West and the Mariners and Rangers failed to meet expectations. The Astros righted the ship, even with Kyle Tucker injured, as Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown got hot, Alex Bregman broke out from a slow start and Yordan Alvarez kicked into Superman mode (.347/.443/.648 from June through August). This isn't the same powerhouse team that won the World Series with 106 wins in 2022, but it's good enough to win it all. Tucker is back, and the Astros are 9-0 in games that deadline acquisition Yusei Kikuchi has started. They will be seeking their eighth straight trip to the ALCS. I'm not betting against them.

The stars have finally aligned for this team to get hot and win the whole fucking thing!!! Win this fucker tonight and throttle down baby!!

I would have agreed wholeheartedly had Alvarez not come up limping on Sunday.  If he just needs a few days to rest the knee, great.  If it's more than that, we are well and truly screwed.  We don't have near the depth to absorb his absence in the lineup.   Sure, we can steal a game or two with our starting pitching and just enough offense (hope to do that tonight), but we are doomed in a 7-game series without his bat.

Counterpoint: we own the Yankees/their pitching doesn’t scare me.

and the dodgers have Dave Roberts (plus Heyward finding the fountain of youth, replacing Yordan and winning the WS MVP would be the chef’s kiss.)

I mean- that's just because we have to play the extra series. If we get through the Wild Card series such that it's all the final 8 left I bet we have 2nd best odds to win the WS- maybe 1st.

I doubt we'll have better odds than the Yankees.
