Twins lose and are eliminated, Tigers win and take the 5th spot, KC loses falls to 6. 2 games left, but it would appear likely that the Astros will be hosting KC next week.  Probably the best matchup possible, and then Cleveland in the second round. Orioles and Yankees should get to duke it out on the other side, looks like a great setup for the stros.

Not sold yet on KC as the 6. They hold the tiebreaker. I believe Hinch has already said they are going to shut it down once they clinch.

i know it’s the white sox, and i know the Braves are fighting for a spot but i could see the royals still managing to tie and get the 5.

Does anyone feel confident with Hader as our closer going to the playoffs? I sure as hell don’t.

No.

He is nowhere close to a lockdown closer.

He’s got amazing stuff, don’t get me wrong.

But he weirdly loses the strike zone and then offers up no movement high fastballs over the plate.

He needs to fucking get his shit together, watch some film, and work on his shit.

It’s about to be serious time and we can’t have the closer giving up runs in the 9th on the reg.

I think they both go 1-1 to finish and we get KC. A triple A Tigers team should be able to win at least 1 vs the White Sox, and I doubt KC is going to pull 2 wins out of their ass. They have been a below .500 team since the Astros played them with most of their wins coming against non-playoff teams. They are in a slump, so I hope we draw them.

Hader is fine. (Sure for 5/$95 you want more than fine…

And I will allow when he comes in, I do feel some of the same I did for Wagner back in the day. Amazing stuff but fastball could flatten out and if he couldn’t spot the offspeed, it gets dicey.

but without looking around the league, who who else is in a better position than us in the 9th?

cleveland? Yeah Clase’s stuff and numbers are ridiculous but he has only one fewer blown save that Hader in the year.

Hader is more than fine. He's one of the best in the game.

He should be serviceable in the bullpen for the playoffs.

In what role?

obviously to eat innings if we’re way down, but I’m sure what else.

Scott’s turned back to a pumpkin but I still think I take him ahead of JV in the 5th or 6th. Same with Neris

I think that if he knows he’s only pitching 1-2 innings, he can turn up the velocity and be effective.

Is a < 90% save rate good or elite?

That list is real interesting. Hader is above average and at least top 10 overall as a closer. He has the best strikeout rate among the group. Only 4 blown saves, but we know he's also blown some tie situations in extras that don't show up in that stat, although some weren't his fault when he was allowed to stretch for 2 innings.

Royals closer MacArthur has a 72% save rate with nearly a 5 ERA. Not scary at all, and a nice opponent to have in the first round (fingers crossed)

Tigers have a good closer in Foley, I hope they draw the 5th seed.

Guardians have the best closer in the league with Clase, and he might even get some Cy Young votes this year, but their starters will give up a lot of runs before you get to him.

Do the Orioles even have a new closer? Kimbrel was released after sucking for most of the season.

Yankees Clay Holmes is at 69% save rate with 13 blown saves, which is awful. He shouldn't scare anyone.

Not too much to worry about, the Astros probably have the best overall pitching staff in the AL playoffs, which should give them an edge in any of these matchups.

Possible this could be JV's last mlb win?   No pressure Dubin.

Scott is done for the season isn't he?
