Tell me about Ozempic (Wegovy, etc)

Recommended Posts

I’m down about 33 pounds in 12 weeks. For me the worst side effect has been insomnia: I fall asleep fine but tend to wake up around 2 or 3 and have trouble getting back to sleep. It’s worst right after the injection and gets better as the week goes on.

Welcome to perimenopause! How are the hot flashes?

No hot flashes but down 46 lbs in 21 weeks. I’m no longer obese, just overweight. I still have a gut but I’m into smaller clothes (no more XL) and Ive retired a couple of belts. Even my eyeglasses don’t fit any more. 2 more lbs and I’ll be under 200 for the first time in decades.

At 5’ 10” and 175 lbs I’ll be considered a healthy weight so that’s the goal, which I could possibly reach by March. I need to start building back some muscle and strength, I can tell I’ve lost some, but that’s typical for any weight loss journey.

Then how did 30% of Americans genetics change in the 80s and 90s?

As a semi-professional medical scientist, I'd speculate that the amount of shit ingredients and substitutes put into processed food and beverages has increased at a similar trend to obesity. Perhaps some people's genetics are minimally effected, while others store excess calories. Some of these ingredients have neurological effects, such as craving/addiction and behavioral disorders in children. Most European countries ban these ingredients or slap warning labels all over it, which could relate to Europeans not being as obese as Americans. Also, the poorer you are, the more cheap food you buy, which has more of the crap ingredients. Switching all Americans to fresh meat, produce, dairy, and baked goods and eliminating processed sweets, pasta, sauces, etc. would probably result in a significant decline in obesity without watching calories.

So how does this impact your alcohol intake? Any side effects when drinking copious amounts of bourbon?

It definitely diminishes my desire to drink alcohol. But I can still get after it when I want to.

I’d suggest staying away from anything with carbonation or sugar, and take it easy on your first outing. Even at a low dose I get quite a bit of heartburn, and all that makes it worse for me. Accidentally double dosed myself once. That was a bad 4-5 days.

In my past experience, drinking alcohol turns off Ozempic's ability to make me want to stop eating.
