Are you the guy that was married to spicy and then got a semi-public divorce in front of hornfans? your avatar kind of looks like the guy, at least, but I think he was a realtor from california now that I think about it.

Nah. I was the guy that helped with all the Rose Bowl and Holiday Bowl tailgates.   I hauled all the beer, food, and supplies in my horse trailer.

Oh man so many thoughts and memories. Obviously many of us who have posted over the last 25 years on these sites have gone through some shit and that doesn't include the 15 years of walking the desert in football, which ironically we did great in.

Nobody kills themselves because of a message board post. Sure it could be a final straw in a long series of issues in a posters real life.

What would be interesting is if someone ran all of our posting histories through an ai model. Some very prominent posters imo have changed their perception significantly. Again for many reasons but would be super interesting.

That’s Cajun, he’s living his best life on the boat fanatics thread.

Snoop Dogg and I got into it a few times then took it to the side and talked at length in DMs. I don’t even remember what about, I do remember printing out some of them they seemed that meaningful at the time. After a while he and his daughter died in a tragic car accident - head on I believe. Caused by a seizure. Mother Russia - his wife was devastated. Never knew any of them in person, not even sure what they looked like. But it was then that I realized there is no distinction between the internet socials and in real life. Loree was after that I believe though maybe Loree was first I don’t recall now. What I know is both of those posters and their deaths had a profound impact on me. There’s no place for online bullying for those who believe in the importance and power of kindness and connection.  That’s just my bottom line.

Wow reading those links.

That sucks about Loree and Zork.  I did know about her, but I did not remember that about him.

RIP to both of them.

On a side note - I had no idea that Hornfans is still around.

I miss old school hornfans. Seeing some of those old handles in those threads makes me yearn for the past. Things were so much better back then.

No shit.  She did have one of the best avatars ever.   I don’t think anything here influenced Zork, everyone was in his corner, some just more gruff about their advice than others.     I believe the snoop dog thing was after Loree. I remember snoops, but nothing of her situation.  Would be curious if the poster that lit her up was in this community.

He was driving a car I had loaned him.  It was a total junker, but I still remember the call his wife made to me that morning, she was so worried about the totaled car.  Nobody cares about a car.

Top 5 worst phone calls I've ever received.  He was sick with cancer.  He was probably going to make it, but his little girl?  Devastating.

Not to derail too much, but this thread is reminding of all the depressing and crazy real-life-intersecting-with-the-internet happenings over the years on various boards:

  • The first I remember was the "cut his package clean off" guy dying.  I don't remember the details.
  • Then there was the one that was posted in semi-real time involving the guy and his girlfriend that got a ride with a older dude in his sports car after drinking and they all died in a car accident.
  • Then of course there was the crazy towing guy turning out to be a pedo rapist and serial killer rock thrower
  • The author of the "nice cock, buddy" 1999 big 12 championship game story dying (I think) of a drug/alcohol overdose (not terribly shocking I suppose)

Other more recent crazy random shit:

  • the guy that said he had to murder his wife because she interacted with other people during covid, and then disappeared
  • the old physicist ex pat with a penchant for disturbingly young thai hookers
  • besthugecocks.com

Other stuff?

Peyton Manning What GIF by Gatorade

Not only are people killing themselves over social media/message board shit, it's basically one of the top contributors to teenage depression and suicide.

e.g. https://www.npr.org/2023/02/16/1157180971/10-things-to-know-about-how-social-media-affects-teens-brains

I myself missed the whole Loree suicide thing because I was taking a self-imposed break from Hornfans before it happened. I literally scrambled my password so I couldn't log in again, and only found out about Loree later.

The "handle" is dead.  The man is alive and well.
