Yup. Seems like a hatchet job.

Look who is doing it. Posobiec was supporting white supremacists and pushing the fake Pizzagate Alex Jones shit at one point, but he deleted those tweets and said people should start over and move on.

if you all want a laugh, this crowd set their sights on Anthony Jeselnick.

There's literally thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people with an history of offensive stupid shit posted on their social media accounts. There's just a difference between known as a stand up comedian and being the director of a blockbuster franchise for the mcu/Disney. I mean idk where we draw the one but in the practical sense it isn't for we as a society to draw the line. Its for each company out there to draw their own line and for people who work in show business to get their own idea of where their line is that they want to be accountable for in the future.

Having seen Jeselnik’s performances on Netflix, YouTube, and in person, his tweets are basically an extension of his act.  He got famous for having mocked somebody who died in a shark attack on his Comedy Central show.

Gunn was a WTF kind of thing.  He could have gotten away with saying that stuff anonymously on 4C or reddit.  But his “provocative” explanation didn’t match reality.

That's the point I was making. Most of the time people don't care. Gunn needed to either go back and scrub his social media accounts or not say the shit in the first place if he wanted to be a big time blockbuster director. The other option was to just assume it would never catch up to him and that was a risk that bit him in the ass.

there's a great jeselnik moment i saw from one of his standups.

he said something like, "there's always a group of people you're not allowed to make jokes about.  right now it's trans-sexuals."

everyone kinda half boos and half uneasy murmurs.

to which he replies, "see?"

he gets it, he leans into it, but i'm assuming a controversial comedian is all he wants to be.  he'll never get opportunities that the john mulaney's of the world have gotten to follow in seinfeld's footsteps and become a broadcast network tv star.  he can still do his thing on cable or streaming, and make plenty of jokes and money.

Those jokes about pedophilia don’t violate the First Amendment, and I guess they’re funny to some people. What I don’t like is they’re gonna “legitimize” it to potential perverts out there. “Oh yeah, I guess these feelings I’m having are normal?

Because I'm not a computer, I don't have to think in binary.

I can find Jack Posobiec to be a fascist.

I can also find Gunn's tweets to be unfunny, gross, and weird.  Really the question is whether Disney thought letting him helm GOTG 3 was going to hurt their bottom line.  I doubt it, most people don't give a fuck, but that was their call.

Using twitter as a moral compass.

While I don't disagree with the premise, what about porn, which is more closely related to pedos? Do you not think that this has an effect on a person's psyche? I may not have bookmarked midget Latina grannies gumming, but that doesn't mean it hasn't popped up in my search bar on occasion. It's a little different than the "I found a Playboy in the dumpster!" days of yore.

not really.

in the current climate, you don't do the math, you just make the move that has the optics you want.  this was an absolute no-brainer for disney.

You found them in the dumpster?  I had to pray to the porn fairy that they would be left in the woods or under bleachers or that the porn fairy would hide them in the false ceiling of the school bathrooms.

Its no different than when a fb program finds out one of its assistant coaches has some unsavory shit in their history. They get the axe rather than try to justify keeping them around. Often despite knowing about some of the said shit before it becomes public knowledge.

This. You can argue that Disney should have known about his past social media profile but there is no “free speech” in corporate America.

consumers are now free to boycott Disney properties if they are genuinely offended.

Looking at this crowd going after him, Jeselnik drew the ire of this crowd because he hosted the roast of Donald Trump on Comedy Central.

Does it really matter what "crowd" is going after him?  They were his own words and putting that shit on blast is a public service as far as I'm concerned.

Should being critical of Trump get you immunity from public backlash?

Let's set the record straight on one thing.  It wasn't simply that Gunn made a joke about Pedos.  It's that he was making those jokes back and forth with his buddy Huston Huddleston.  Huddleston just plead guilty to possession of child porn.

https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/277833/hollywood-science-fiction-museum-founder-pleads-guilty/

So that's why those old tweets are getting brought up now.  It's also wrangling in the Rick and Morty creators.  I've been a fan of that show and it kind of makes me sick because it totally makes sense in hindsight.

Hollywood has a real problem with this shit. All should be exposed and run out of the business.

They've been doing weird shit with young kids for decades. Shirley Temple wrote about a studio exec coming into a room with her and dropping his pants before her mother came in back in the 40's or 50's. Hollywood has been full of full on child predators for longer than any of us have been alive.

You guys ever see the Doc and Marty channel101 video where Marty has to give head to Doc?  Yeah, it's pretty disturbing...

I don't think it's worth firing the weirdo who wrote it, but it's gross. Some humor is really fucking weird, doesn't mean the guy is a criminal.

god dammit harmon, don't fuck up rick and morty.  we've got 70 episodes coming.

in a weird way, a stupid/disgusting sketch is better than a random tweet.  at least in the former, we know it was meant to be funny, even if it isn't.  it was written and produced.  a random tweet has a much better chance of reflecting the author's actual opinions, which is what gets you fired.

Jeselnik is out to be a shock comedian (a 2010s version of Andrew Dice Clay, except that Jeselnik is actually funny).  Gunn and some of these others seem creepy as fuck.

It does matter who is going after him - the people doing it are alt-righters/white supremacists/Trump supporters, and Jeselnik partly came to a larger prominence because of his roast of Trump.

But enjoy this, because Jeselnik lives for this stuff.  It's going to make it into his standup.

It's alarming to be that you are basically willing to ignore the accusations because you think someone's political affiliation makes them more virtuous.  I don't care about his politics.  If I did, I'd be posting in the politics forum.

Take each one of these situations on a case by case basis.   If this Jeselnik guy was just making jokes and the public doesn't seem to have a problem with it, i'm sure he'll do just fine.

On the Rick and Morty front..  things aren't looking good.

He has not been fully disgraced as of yet, but writers who worked on the set of an animated show of this showrunner said he would frequently show them child porn to give them an idea of scenes he wanted. One specifically talked about an early episode from season one of the show that basically was just a child pornographer's fantasy come to life in television animation. The hopefully soon to never work again showrunner said the episode "turned him on a lot."

There are.  They are egging each other on using the subreddits frequented by the alt-right/pizzagate crowd, and everybody they seem to be targeting have criticized Trump.

I'm not ignoring the accusations, and I have acknowledged that Gunn probably has actual issues and should have been fired.  I've said that multiple times.

It'd be great to divorce politics from these groups pouring through old social media posts, but they openly state that politics is a primary/motivating factor on reddit and other social media sites.  They do not hide their anger at anybody who mocks their politics, and they do not hide their anger at twitter for getting rid of all of the bots (many of their subscribers) and/or giving the boot to various people they worship.  They especially don't hide their anger at ABC for firing Roseanne Barr back in May.

Let me back up for a moment - perhaps you aren't familiar with Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec and the others who are leading this effort and taking the credit for taking Gunn down.  After reading up on them, read up on Pizzagate, Q Anon, etc. and how Roseanne Barr is their biggest celebrity cheerleader, with Barr both publicly supporting Pizzagate, as well as Q Anon.   James Woods is a close second, but he has not stuck his neck out there and went into the Alex Jones territory that Roseanne did.

Now read up on how angry they are at ABC for firing Roseanne Barr over her social media usage back in May.  Then read up on how angry they are that Lucas/Star Wars dared to have female and African-American leads in Star Wars movies.  Star Wars is owned by ABC.  Who also owns Marvel (Gunn's employer).  Look at how these folks were out there trashing Star Wars because of who they cast, rather than rightfully trashing them for shitty storytelling and directing from J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson.

Pay especially close attention to how, after Roseanne Barr was fired in May, these folks kicked into high gear to embarrass Disney/ABC/Star Wars/Marvel.

Gunn wasn't fired because one dude spent a few hours looking through his stuff.  They have been looking through tons of people who post political things they don't like.

I should mention that I have the misfortune of having some in-laws who are into the alt-right/Pizzagate/Q/Deep State shit/etc. stuff, and they, for whatever reason, send me stuff all the time from reddit, etc., so I've been all too aware of these folks/group and what they are doing.

The Gunn stuff was not a surprise to me at all - I saw them chattering about taking down a high-profile Hollywooder a few weeks before it went down. And Gunn won't be their last.

i watched a jeselnik netflix (i think?) special. that cat is legitimately funny.

part of his act he told one of those jokes where you laugh, but groan at the same time. it was early-ish in the act and he copped a face to the crowd and said something like "it's always good to see if your crowd is ready. if that one was too much, just wait, it's going to get MUCH worse."

we should confront uncomfortable humor in comedy. sarah silverman tells rape jokes. and i laughed. i know it seems contradictory, but it's not.

Jokes about Eric Clapton's kid dying are probably a good test of an audience for certain comedians.  Not a pleasant test, but a test nonetheless.

But Jeselnik has probably caught the most shit for his tweets after tragedies, which he explains in that same special.
