Do they teach about anecdotes and statistical outliers in Communicatoins? Bill Gates made big dollars as a college drop-out. I advise all students to drop out.

Academic credentials matter to senior WR #49 Thatcher Milton, who will not be hired on the grounds of being Thatcher Milton alone.

A degree from Duke (as opposed to, say, LSU), or one from the best Communicatoins school in America, is not meaningful to a person of Maalik's profile. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

False equivalence much?  Bad take

There's too much stupid in this post to even address. So yeah, lets move on.

You: All Communications degrees matter.  How dare you besmirch its good name!

Also you: LSU alum work in sanitation.

Top shelf logic there chief.

People always say this about athletes but most of their degrees don't mean shit. He majored in Comm at UT and Psych at Duke, which by themselves aren't strong degrees. His non-athletic  potential comes from a network high-powered alums, which exists in many sufficiently large schools.

And Chipotle is a top tier fast-casual national chain.  So what?

An undergrad degree from Moodys by itself lands the holder a coveted job as... assistant digital content producer on the KXAN website?

If he's a 3rd-stringer studying business with an offer to play for the UPenn Quakers or Alabama Tide... yeah, ride the the pine at Penn.  Easy.

If he's a starter with no prospect of an NFL career, he's going to be offered non football opportunities by connected alums who liked the fact of him being a QB, that's as good at Florida as it is at Duke.  For a guy like Maalik, his football fame generates more value than the relative brand power of a Duke degree.

Sydney Carton already diced this up pretty well. I'm guessing you have a degree in engineering or something that does define the exact job you'll have waiting when you get out. You also seem to have the quaint notion that people in most disciplines can immediately apply what they learned in college to real life.

You need to get out more. A college degree from a reputable college in any discipline is a door opener. I know persons whom have graduated from Vanderbilt or Yale or Michigan. I don't know what their exact courses of study were. The name of the school says plenty.

It's ironic that your course of study fails you in your effort to you denigrate other paths. Did they teach irony in your discipline?

You do write well.

Thieneman would be interesting, IMO.  Freshman all-american in 2023.

So far, he's linked to Oregon, tOSU, Louisville (was recruited by Brohm before Brohm left for Louisville), Indiana, etc.

Purdue played a lot of single-high safety this year and last.  Thieneman played that role.  Given how slow and ineffective their DL was at times, it is no surprise that he registered 100+ tackles.  That said, he was the best player on their defense.

Here's a pic of him against UND - around 25 yards off the LOS.

The fact that a non-zero quantity of people "has ever made big dollars in Advertising, Public Relations" does not mean any given person in A/PR will have likelihood of making big dollars.  Crazy, I know.  That Bayes dude knew everything.

It’s looking like Quinn coming back may have been a bad choice for both parties.  He would have probably got drafted 2nd- 4th round last year and Texas probably would be in a better state on offense with Arch having a season of experience.

He might have gone in the back half of the first round last year.

So just throwing the OC to the curb and bringing in a new one, with no change in position coaches on the worst side of the ball, and then a bunch of offensive players who didn't like those coaches still bolt?

Keep Venables forever and ever.

Being a high-profile athlete opens many more doors. That's the entire point of the argument.

I know you think it sounds slick but the nominative case is more proper. The subject of the clause is the people who graduated from Vanderbilt. Engineering 101.

They have two WR in their class and an ATH.

They have to go portal hunting with Hawkins at QB, whose career high in passing yards is 161 (60 of it on one play) backed up by Casey Thompson and a qb recruit ranked #20 in Utah who they flipped from Okie State and has yet to visit Norman?

That's real fucking bad y'all.

I mean how dare you take the title away from me?

At the end of the day I think we can all agree that fame is the most valuable commodity in this country after money, people famous for being famous is the new "I want to grow up to be an astronaut!", it is society's fault that they would be correct.

In summary:

1. Communications degrees from Texas and Duke open doors, but

2. not as many as degrees from Harvard, and

3. not as many as being a successful starting QB.

4. Also, OU has no receivers, and

5. Subjects of relative clauses take subjective/nominative forms.

That'll be $9.95?

I don’t know anyone who owns businesses and just hires random ex football players for the hell of it, myself included. That’s fan fiction.

This notion that Maalik Murphy, who quit on his team last year while in a key role, and who quit on his team this cycle ahead of the bowl, is just going to win employment because he played QB, is ignorant and laughable.  That shit is reserved for all time greats loyal to a particular school.

You know absolutely nothing about the subject matter in which you’re providing certitude.

So Texas only has a visit set up with a Utah punter so far? They are playing the slow game. Just hope we do end up with the necessary 3 DTs. Everything else I think we can afford to swing big on.

Well that's certainly a take.  Another is the CFP schedule vs. the portal schedule pushed a backup who wanted playing time to the portal in the only viable window (Spring window sucks for QB and we all know it).  A player who by accounts did right by Texas, was loved by teammates and coaches, and really didn't want to go but had to if he wanted to progress in his career.  Your framing is, as usual, over-simplified, one-sided and lacking appropriate context.

I get that your schtick is to be the hyper-reductive asshole, so carry on.

You: Making blanket statements that every college football player that doesn't make the NFL is only as valuable as his alumni network allows him to be, and has no interest in any kind of education and value of education based on their own goals, ambition, or how they see themselves.

Also You: It's a shame the University of Phoneix doesn't have a football team, that alumni network would be fucking GOLD!

Finally, You: Completely fucking stupid becuase of the above statement(s) and a complete lack of understanding that not everyone is you, or lives by your Linux-esque autistic black and white concept of how to value the world and their life and goals and experience within it. You fucking dipshit.

We don't have any visits publicly set up yet. That means you should absolutely start panicking, it's already over and we've lost.

The fact that you don't think advertising and public relations are massive fucking businesses, much the Film and Television industry, and don't churn of billions and tons of cash for hundreds of thousands of people, if not more, every single year, and consider the  "outliers" says pretty much everything we need to know about your ignorance.

Guys, only degrees from Harvard matter for anonymous people. Everyone and your kids just pack it up and go home. Guess we missed the memo. Which is weird, I got my first job, which set me down my current path (which is not bad) by applying for a job on the UT job board with my measly communication degree. Almost like the quality of an alumni network matters because of the quality of the alumni.
