Their fall from grace to Mike Dubose level Alabama is going to be fun to watch. On another note, I wonder how many children LSU sold into slavery for this latest portal blitz.

I heard that Ryan Day bought every last one of them.

I know we're pitching revenue sharing as part of the deal.  To the tune of like $150K per player.  Now I don't know if that means all players on schollie, or what.

Is this bankrolled by Wasserman? My understanding was that UCLA football (not basketball) was way behind on NIL. I know there was some change to the primary NIL entity so maybe some change associated with that.

Not sure who the big money guys are behind it, but while not what we really need to compete with other teams in the B1G, word is it's like $7 mil or so.

"Top 85" recruit is a new one for me.

He was 2023 national #83 for On3, so they could have said, "Top 83".
He was 2023 national #102 for 247.  "Top 102"

Top 85 sounds better than top 100 I guess :). Good PR

Mcguire taking that roster down to the studs and rebuilding

Nothing says stable job security like having to rebuild your roster and hire new coordinators in year 4

Go ahead and add Tech to the coaching carousel in 2025

It's a good thing he's going in to his 4th season next year.  It takes at least 8 years for a coach to get a roster full of his own guys with all these damn extra covid seasons.

I don't think the details of an NIL deal have ever been reported accurately.  It's not publicly available information.  I wish it was in this case though because the player is a turd and also sucks.  The atm coaches are going to realize he's never going to help them within a week of getting on campus.

Charlie Williams: The "long game" in transfer portal recruiting is ongoing as bowls are being played

Quote

The transfer portal in college football has become a dynamic and fast-moving environment, often likened to the way high school players rise to prominence during deep playoff runs and state championship games. In high school football, many athletes only attract significant recruiting attention after performing at a high level in these high-stakes environments, giving coaches a chance to evaluate their skills and mental toughness against top-tier competition. Similarly, college bowl games offer a comparable stage for transfer prospects.

For college athletes, bowl season serves as their opportunity to shine in meaningful, pressure-filled games. These performances often reveal players who may have been overlooked during the regular season but excel under the bright lights of postseason play. Programs like Texas use this period as a critical scouting opportunity, watching bowl games to identify potential transfer targets who can fill specific positional needs. This approach allows Texas to evaluate talent in real time, assessing a player’s ability to handle tough competition and high-pressure situations before making a move.

A key point for Texas fans to remember is that not all top transfer candidates have entered the portal yet. Many players are still focused on their current teams, competing in bowl games or even the College Football Playoff. Once their seasons conclude, more names will inevitably enter the portal, greatly expanding the pool of available talent. Just as some high school players don’t attract serious recruiting interest until late in the season, some of the best transfer prospects won’t emerge until their bowl game performances catch the eye of recruiters or their season is complete. Patience is key during this process, as it ensures Texas will have access to the full range of available options.

For those concerned about Texas missing out on so-called “can’t-miss prospects,” it’s important to understand that the transfer portal is a fluid, ever-evolving process. Missing on one player early doesn’t mean there won’t be other valuable additions later. Bowl season performances often highlight new targets that weren’t on the radar before, allowing Texas to pivot and pursue athletes who may end up being perfect fits for their system. That said, talent is finite. There isn’t an infinite amount of all-conference defensive tackles in the portal.

Another important factor to consider is that Texas isn’t going to wildly overspend on any prospect, no matter how hyped they are. The program has a strict and highly successful model for how it approaches the portal and builds its roster. Texas remains disciplined, targeting players who fit specific needs and align with the culture and structure of the team. This model ensures the program doesn’t overreach or disrupt its long-term strategy for short-term gains. By sticking to its plan, Texas consistently positions itself to build a strong, balanced roster that can compete at the highest level.

Programs like Texas have the resources and strategic foresight to navigate this landscape successfully, ensuring they don’t just pursue big names but also find the right fits for their roster. Missing out on one “can’t-miss” player isn’t the end of the story—there are always more opportunities, especially as the portal continues to evolve in the coming weeks. Texas’s measured and strategic approach ensures they’ll remain competitive while building a sustainable foundation for long-term success.

Did not want to see Mateer to OU. I like them so much better with shitty QB play.

He's good, but he's chaotic, and he's throwing to Deion Burks on one good leg and a flock of JAGs behind a thin, shitty OL. They're not going to bail out his wilder throws.
