At least pretend that you watch the games.

For the shit we have given Muhammad, he ultimately decided to stay at Texas. He’s not super charitable, but ultimately the whole package at Texas was better than whatever he was getting offered by clowns in the ACC and Oregon.

D Moore? Less so. For a guy who dropped like 15 passes this year, he and his mother sure think highly of his abilities.  I guess Sarkisian does too. Maybe mix in a few more catches in 2025, buddy.

From what I remember Moore was reliable early then went through a late season stretch of drops that got jumpstarted with one 2-3 drop game.

Let's not forget that he's a true Soph in his first year of playing time. Unless he slacks off, he should get better.

A large group of basketball alums have pledged, informally, to support the program with NIL if the next hire is one of their guys. No one is actively trying to push RT out. They’re just making things clear if he happens to not be the right fit in the end.

I don’t believe that Moore dropped only 5 passes any more than I believe that he actually dropped 15.

1) You should know when you’re reading hyperbole on this board.

2) You should not be so trusting of subjective stats. The definition of a drop, depending upon resource, is usually really fucking limited versus what any of us might consider as one.

3) I watch as much CFB as any person on this site. Get fucked for intimating otherwise.

Good on him for leaving during their portal window. Marcus Freeman is a hell of a DC as well though, doubt this moves the needle too much for them.

Even if that is accurate, spending 1/6 of your total budget on a single WR -- no matter how great he is -- seems a bit out of whack. Retaining Downs isn't going to be cheap. They already went into the portal for RB, TE and OT. Maybe they don't have to pay as much for roster retention because they lose so many multi-year starters and the backups are less expensive? I have no idea but whatever they do, I hope it blows up in their face.

Just took a quick glance, but it looks like the highest paid NFL WRs top out at about 11-12% of the total salary cap. So 16.7% of what is certainly a top 2 or 3 NIL budget in the entire sport is too much. Gotta be just a negotiating figure from Smith's camp.

One thing about the offense that has bothered me for awhile now is the fact that the supposed superstars are sometimes not getting the ball enough. Even though Wingo was a freshman, it seemed that both Moore and Wingo were underutilized. Or, are they not as good as we thought? With Wingo it might just be his experience level, but Moore should have done more. Will find out in 2025 imo.

Expand

A lot of QBs tend to have receivers they are more prone to throwing to for a variety of reasons.  For various reasons Ewers was much more prone to go to Moore then say Bond. Whereas Arch looked at Bond and Wingo way more than Moore.  I think Quinn also showed a greater preponderance to hit the Tight end than Arch.  Player preferences, trust, whatever.

Just look at Billy Pittman.  He was our leading receiver in 2005 with 750 yards.  In 2006 he barely broke 400 yards and in 2007 he didn't even have 100 yards receiving.  Some of that I'm sure was talent acquisition, but a lot of it was also QB preference and comfort from Vince to Colt.

Some QBs spread the ball around to everyone pretty equally, but most have definite preferences.

I think we as a group were speculating on this - possibly in this thread, can't remember - a few weeks ago. The model going forward for the big programs may be everyone getting on the same page at the same time for a big run, then dialing it back afterwards to regroup. It'll be really hard to sustain $20-$30mm rosters year in and year out unless you have an Uncle Phil who has fuck you money and just doesn't care. And even then, Uncle Phil isn't immortal.

It’s been mentioned before but we need a cadre of our billionaires to pony up large one time donations to create an endowment of sorts in which a percentage can be used for annual payroll.

If I were a BMD I’d rather do that than have CDC pass the hat every year.

What does this mean other than Texas hiring Royal Ivey?

Or, does "one of their guys" just mean the collective group needs to sign off on the hire?

Sure there is read progression....but it is also obvious that QBs feel more comfortable throwing to certain guys for various reasons.  Read progression would actually mean more of spreading the ball around as a qb work though their reads, not statistically obvious patterns of favoritism from one QB to the other with basically the same receiving corp.

It's quite the little bubble you've created for yourself. You're very special. You're the Kim Kardashian on the 9.95 board.  And as far as I know you didn't have to throat a D-list rappers cock to achieve it.  Even more impressive.

Now you're saying you watch as much football as anyone else on this site.  Ok fine. Is that hyperbolic? I can't tell. Doesn't matter

What about all the stories of your HS football exploits as a scrappy, white 5'6 WR playing big-time TXHSFB? I'm sure those are all true.

I realize that Travis is a conservative talking head and that drives a lot of people insane, but, idiot or not, the guy is very much involved with Tennessee athletics and would know very well about something like this. Smiths camp is doing outreach.

This is what I recall. Had a good Spring game. We just need to play him first 8 games.

In our current WR room I understand having to pay up to Moore’s demand. But I don’t think he was a true difference maker and his production could have probably been replaced if someone that is in charge of these things would have been alert sooner. But since we paid up he better have close to a Golden type year next year.

If you want to build an endowment that throws off $30m/yr in income, you'll have to raise something like $400m (ballpark - I'm going quick and dirty here).

That is a big effort.
