Shanahan was a weird case, one of the services had him rated wildly differently ( on the plus side) than all the others, I think it was Rivals. He might have been considered the best player in the state. Narrator: he wasn’t.

It was Rivals. I remember when his family moved to Austin either Roach or Holland was pumping him up super hard as a Texas prospect/potential future 5* too on 247 which they've done and missed on before (Preston Stone comes to mind). Just funny to me which prospects they get on super hard.

Feel like there were a few UT -> ASU transfers. Have any of them been contributors on their run this year?

Alford is a starter. Omeire has 3 catches.

The most interesting portal entries so far for me are:

RB Ahmad Hardy, ULM
WR Eric Singleton, GaTech
WR Kevin Concepcion, NC St
WR Dane Key, Kentucky
WR Nic Anderson, OU, could pair well with Arch on deep passes
DL Hosea Wheeler, WKU
DL Parker Petersen, Tulane
DL Keeshawn Silver, Kentucky - as an over the ball body type
LB Jacon Manu, Arizona - Assuming he's recovering well and okay with backup/depth role
S Dillon Thieneman, Purdue

Anyone care to add any others?

@closetojumping there is no shot we actually pursue Bear, right?

No idea. Hope not.

Helluva job Bryant, Bledsoe, Ross, Swanson class. I think the best moment from any of them was one play from Ross against Rice last year.

I have zero surprise at any of those four. I was not a fan when they signed, but that is all Texas could get at the time, I guess.

Texas A&M now has lost 17 players to the portal and 2 declaring early for the draft.

They signed 25 guys in this recruiting cycle. I have no idea how many seniors are out of eligibility and moving on.

I also have no idea how many scholarship players they had this season.

That all said, I’m assuming they have quite a few guys they’re going to need to transfer to ATM or they’re going to be very short again.

This was a problem last year and they ended up having to jagger up. If these guys don’t crush it in the portal, they are truly going to suck next season.

They have a serious problem unless they spend huge money and bring in 8-10 quality starters via the portal.

Hopefully we don’t do that dumb shit where we wait to do visits and bring in players from portal and they end up at various other places and we offer them too late

Agreed.  Just grab 1 elite speedster and be done with it.

I like freaking out internally about potentially missing out on a guy I hadn't even heard of until this morning. Sue me.

I have a feeling the Ags are going to go crazy in the portal.

What's considered crazy?

They signed one of the top portal classes last year based purely on numbers. I expect something similar. A huge portal class with a bunch of jags and a couple decent to good transfers like Scouton.

It's a good thing for them that no one else will be looking for quality players in the portal.

Comically over rated. Genuinely the most overrated player in the last decade+.

A five star who is completely un rated nationally by every other group is incredible and said all you needed to know then and now about rivals as a company.

Also lots of smoke he tried to jump on elsewhere as a recruit after he committed to a&m and everyone else said no.

Do yall think playoff teams are going to be a little slower hitting the portal? Seems like all of the visits I've seen are non-playoff teams, other than the one Ga Tech WR to UGA.

Aside from DT and LB, a new kicker and punter are desperately needed. Any decent options?

Utah’s punter seems to be the best one so far. Averaged 44.7 yards per punt and a long of 62. Second team all conference this year this year.

Yeah, #19 in the nation, #1 in Texas, That’s an OL LOL.

Don't miss that they said he was an IOL too, not a tackle.

Yet another obvious bust that this board had a better handle on than any service.

Someone up thread said there's smoke SMU's kicker is heading to Austin after they wrap up their season (hopefully before we do)

Alford had a year at USC between his Texas and Arizona State seasons though. He’s the second leading tackler on ASU.

Swanson and Dorbah play a little bit, that’s pretty much it.

OU has 12 guys in the portal so far. That includes a starting CB, their leading receiver in Sharp, Nick Anderson, their 5 star starting QB, and two OLs who started this season. That’s not nothing.

Oklahoma might take a long ass time to ever dig out- if they are ever able to scrape together money to win in the nil world. They could be wrecked with this and SEC added competition. Hate to see it.

And a few incoming transfers got trap doored before the spring portal window opened if I recall. Didn't track if they did the same thing in April/May

In addition to aggy being aggy, and LSU Kelly'D, I am looking forward to all the struggles our regional competitors will have.

I think it's going to be pretty funny watching some of these schools who can't afford to fire their coach, go big in the portal instead.  You still have to coach these teams.

their youtube people keep talking about how this is nothing because BV got a $15M check to grab difference makers in the portal.

Seems like they are Mateer or bust at QB..  Their WR coach has started offering WRs in the portal as well, WR out of Miami (OH) and has a WR from Arkansas Pine Bluff coming in for a visit too

Dorbah did play quite a bit in 2023 -- 30 total tackles and 6 sacks.  He was hurt for part of 2024, which is part of the reason his stats decreased significantly.

Yea. It's a big reason for how shitty we are this year.
