Transfer Cycle 2024-2025 - I'm with Stupid

To me, on the Defensive side, losing Collin Simmons would be the biggest kick in the nuts by far....way more so than Hill and a million times more than Muhammad.

Offensively, obviously, losing Arch would be foundationally devastating, but anyone else is either replaceable or we have depth.

That'll be $9.95

Bobby Burton said on Coffee & Football this morning that Ohio State is prepared to spend 30 million on NIL moving forward. I'm unsure if that was their yearly rotating budget or a one off.

wonder if that budget hit that high after their wins vs TN, Oregon and us?? All in because they have a terrific chance of winning it all?

Fuck it. Go get Williams from Bama. They are poor. And it would be fun. If it’s Wingo as I assume is one. If it’s Hill and Manny and not Wingo go get Williams anyway.
except that stupid sec to sec spring transfer rule. Is that still a thing?

Well, sure, but I want to know who is fucking with us.  We need to send a message.

Muhammad has been talking shit about leaving and "not shorting himself again" for more than a month. I'm assuming he's gone. I assume others include Wingo and Hill with the way everyone is acting.

Yeah- some people are reporting 2. That would mean Wingo or Hill not Wingo and Hill, but maybe it’s all 3 (assuming manny is 1 for sure which seems fair). Which- cool- whatever. I think he’s better than he played the last 2 games but if he’s checked out during the playoffs fuck him/ go be mentally weak somewhere else.

Texas just signed the #1 class in the country. NIL and those aiding it aren't an issue. There's not really anything that can be done if a billionaire comes in over the top for someone or if an aggressive collective offers a ridiculous pile of cash to someone. An entire roster has to be managed.

Guess let's see who it is.  But if you pay, develop and then lose a 5 star in their prime to a higher bidder, do you have to start rethinking how much you allocate to recruiting vs. retaining/poaching?  Crazy world to try to manage without a salary cap or multi-year contracts.

he was solid for us all season.. yeah he got roughed up vs Clemson and allowed that horrible catch from a passing RB vs asu.. but him wanting more money doesn't make him mentally weak.

I can't see it being Hill. Maybe I'm too caught up in the emotional aspect but his little brother loves Texas and I'm presuming Hill is well taken care of. The amount of buy-in and support for him and his brother and his story. Idk I don't see it.

That's Simmons I think.

I just couldn't see it being a Hill or Simmons because I refuse to believe Texas would let those guys walk without ponying up the money to keep them.

I guess I'm not sure I understand what needs "rethinking" in this landscape. Texas is a have, not a have-not, but it isn't the only one and a few are bigger. If Oregon or Michigan or Ohio State wants to turn everyone else, including Texas, into a developmental school, then there's no recourse on our end. Dell, Hildebrandt and others with 11 figures are not participating with Texas. Guys like them or with even more money than them are playing roles for other groups. We cannot crowdsource our way out of that problem.

He sucked in the playoffs, and that directly follows the beginning of shit talking in social media. He's been paid really, really well. If someone wants to pay something absurd for him, and he's checked out, so be it. The guy has made close to $2M since stepping on campus two years ago. We can and will get angry at whoever is buying him, but I also don't begrudge anyone who has a problem with the player here also.

No, checking out mentally during the playoffs is what would make him mentally weak. Go win it all and go get paid- sure- whatever. Decide you are gone and then short time it during the playoffs? Fuck off with that shit- finish your commitment (financial) to your employers and your implicit commitment to your teammates.

Would a push from the BoR chair, CDC, or potentially the next president to some of the guys you've named help in that respect or is it a lost cause to even try and get them to participate in NIL?

just saying, he played well the other night.. think the only real negative play was a PI, but i'll refer to you and CTJ when it comes to this stuff.

If Oregon or whoever is offering MM something goofy like $2 million…. for that amount we can restock our DT room and get a portal RB. With money left over. Hell get corner to put across from Kobe Black next year. Manny is good but very replaceable.

Same argument with Wingo. But if it’s higher than those two that starts to get non-replaceable…

Manny wasn’t good in the Clemson game but it didn’t look like it was due to a lack of effort or focus. He had that one mishap in the ASU game where he either possibly lost the ball in lights or thought he had inside help. He didn’t cost us the TOSU game. So I don’t agree he was short timing it in the playoffs. I personally wouldn’t be too upset if he was one of the two players, I’d prefer he stays, but if he leaves I’m not going to rewrite his history here either to shit on him.

Wingo will be the focal point of the passing attack next year. It would be odd for him to move on but WTH do I know.

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs, but didn't Wingo come down to us and Missouri due to a massive NIL promise that they couldn't deliver in the end? I love Wingo but of all of the names being discussed, sans Muhammed because I think it's him, Wingo would make the most sense.

CTJ has basically told us MM is gone, but this all but confirms it if this is how our 9.95ers are talking. Black is going to be one of the starters; so if Wilson and Phillips are battling for the other spot, MM is gone.

When i saw the blurb hyping up Parker Livingstone I wept for Arch.

Funny considering CTJ labeled him something to the tune of Jaggy McJaggerson.

The price of poker continues to go up. If you're a top program, and Texas clearly is, then the war for roster acquisition and retention isn't solely with the other titans. The war exists on that front, no doubt. However, there's a second front to this thing and it's going against the Lilliputians. Any school can go crazy for one player of need, whether Colorado State, Michigan State, UCLA, Kentucky, whatever. If your program produces an inordinate amount of well-developed talent, your program is targeted more often. That means ponying up crazier and crazier totals.

Just high-lighting this. I have a buddy at work who's involved with Utah, and he said they blew almost the entirety of their NIL budget on Cam Rising this year. Obviously it didn't work but if a program feels that a player is program shaping, or defining, they'll definitely pony up what they can.

It feels like it’s wingo. I don’t want him gone but I’d rather keep hill and Simmons if it’s out of those 3.

If wingo goes to mizz then that’s stupid on his part. Now if he goes to Oregon Michigan Ohio state then Texas needs to stop being so nice. Steal someone. Offer Ryan Williams a lot of money to say no. Lincoln tried to do it with worthy. We need to come with the same energy. Ohio state spent a lot last year in the portal. It paid off and now they are willing to do it again.

How bad does Texas want to win? If they aren’t willing to steal and scrap their way to it then that’s on them.

It came don't to us and Missouri, but it wasn't due to an NIL promise they couldn't deliver. Becuase how could that have been determined before signing day? It wasn't Rashada at Florida, man.
