Man, this makes me kind of sad. I was pulling for my dude, and now he's having to go to an interview with a glorified sanitation engineer school.

Mateer to OU

Meh. He's not some wunderkind who will get them more than 6 wins.

Did not want to see Mateer to OU. I like them so much better with shitty QB play.

Why? Dude is has zero WR's to throw to, a shitty o-line, and Tatum is reportedly contemplating entering the portal, leaving them with one good RB. Mateer isn't beating us. Our defense will still be elite next year, and even if it weren't, we would still curb stomp that awful team. Their savior is 20 years away, I hope.

Ole Miss just got a WR from Bama. Lane just promising everyone playing time?

What's hilarious is they'll still miss the playoffs no matter how many portal players they take. Their desperation is both sad and amusing.

Yeah, I've been wondering why we're taking players now instead of waiting for the Spring, when we would see some playoffs kids leaving their teams.

Another problem with the spring window is that it is almost universally because of playing time/depth chart, and that is not a good catch for UT.

it should basically always has to be player moving up, coaching change, or change in scenery/closer to home.

Talking about big picture of course, not case by case, the courts might kill the transfer portal faster than what it takes to detect patterns.

Kill it?  They created it.

Nah the NCAA created the portal windows (because the coaches wanted them) but like all they do it is just a single lawsuit from going away, It's not related to the transfer portal per se but Pavia essentially killed D2, D3 programs today, now all their players are going JUCO to preserve eligibility.

Except it might not even be long term enough because next it will be players suing against hard eligibility limits, honestly they just implement a CBA and get this over already.

Worrying about transfers in the first half of the winter portal is the new worrying about high school recruiting in the summer.

Players whose teams are in the playoffs have an additional 5 days in January to portal. And it’s safe to assume numerous players will enter after this weekend once their teams are eliminated in the first round.

Maybe our coaches are anticipating a wave of players entering after the CFP is over and are content letting other teams blow their wads before that wave hits the portal. Maybe they're content to let the market settle and not get caught up in bidding wars when we don’t need stars as much as quality depth that buys into our culture. Maybe they know they may have to spend more money to retain our roster following our CFP run and are being more measured than aggressive until they get more clarity on that. I don’t really know, but Texas football didn’t all of a sudden get broke and stupid so I imagine we’ll be fine.

Bingo. We won't know how Texas ultimately did in this year's recruiting/portal cycle for months.

Is this considered a portal if their 995ers are confirming Dallas Wilson is going to UF? maybe @Longhornfrenzy has an oregon sub to double check? Wouldn't it be easier to just asking for a release from his NLI?

Pepperdine wins running away

Best friend growing up in Dallas went to Pepperdine for one year…

1) He was one strike away from being expelled with the penultimate infraction being Empty Beer Cans found behind a couch in his suite.

2) He and his group of friends all transferred away after one year.
(Beautiful view, but not worth it because the school was run by religious nut jobs.)

3) Everyone I know who went to UCSB loved it.

No one complained about religious nut jobs. Only person who transferred away chose to transfer to UT and I think that it was for financial reasons. (Instate tuition)

Yea man I don’t think they’re stopping at 3. Are you saying no to an all conference punter and Spence?

Bobby on Branch Bros:

Texas is definitely in play for the brother tandem Zachariah and Zion Branch, formerly of USC. Zachariah is a highly ranked wide receiver who is an absolute jet. Zion has been a reserve defensive back at safety for the Trojans to this point.

We’ll see where this goes. But I am told Texas is a possibility as of this morning.
