Tua and Mac Jones didn’t have a bunch of rushing yards or anything when Sark coached them at Bama, nor would I say they’re big scramble type guys that extend plays. But they got the ball out quick to a bunch of badasses and had Najee Harris in the backfield (1900 scrimmage yards and 30 TDs in the COVID shortened 2020 season my dear god).

Tua and Mac extended plays out of the pocket regularly and would take off if needed. You rarely saw them just stand there, go down untouched, or running into the pressure

Both those guys were way more “mobile” than Ewers for sure and definitely better processors in the pocket too. My point was Sark’s had success with guys who aren’t going to rush for 50 yards a game.

IMHO Sark's offense needs a mobile QB who is at least a credible threat to run. After the injury teams knew if Quinn dropped back that they didn't need to worry about him taking off - because he wasn't going to.

I think Sark’s offense is predicated on the QB not sacking himself

Listings briefly to OTF, Gerry said Williams might come back if his knee injury prevents him from trying out for the NFL in March at full strength. But then Gerry read a Hims ad and after I heard him say the words “erection” and “ejaculation” I had to turn off the podcast.

sorry words make you sensitive...thanks for the thorough update though

I feel like all the announcements by guys who are out of eligibility is an acknowledgement that you can play for as many years as you want as long as you have a good lawyer.

Nah, I like it. It’s announcing to the world that they are going pro even if it’s their only option. Lots of high school players and their parents might not know. And keeps us front and center. Keep them coming.

This thread is such a beating that no one even bothered to ask or tell what this actual transfer update says

Like the post above yours, among others, picking this thread to bitch about Quinn?

You don't hire a head coach because they are a good play caller. You hire them because you think they'll be a good head coach. That's true of Sark, Ryan Day, Marcus Freeman, etc. Turns out, Sark is a really good head coach. At this point, he's significantly better as a head coach than he is a playcaller. For get elite, he wasn't even a good play caller for extended stretches of every game the last half of the season. Did Ewers struggle at times? Sure. Did the running game struggle against good defenses? Yep. That happens and it's the play-caller's job to figure out something that does work. That's what Sark struggled with this year. If someone else were calling plays, this board would be calling for their head. No one is hired to be a "CEO Head Coach." They are hired as the head coach and then assign roles and responsibilities to staff. Sark has chosen to call plays himself and it is limiting the potential of his team.

A good leader knows when to delegate. Sark needs to put his entire staff on Red Zone/2 point scenarios for a portion of the off-season before Spring Ball to figure out the best way to attack and defend both and evaluate whether we are missing key skill sets/schemes/body types to succeed in either. Address any shortcomings via the Spring portal and then rep the hell out of whatever concepts they uncover until we line up to face the Buckeyes again in August.

We can't allow Red Zone shortfalls to be the reason our season ends for a third consecutive year.

You don't need the 50 rush yards a game quarterback but if they have to and can that only helps your team, especially if the run game isn't working that day. But you do NEED a QB who can get outside of the pocket to extend plays, run for 1st downs when plays break down, or be a threat near the goal line to take it in.

This years playoffs:

Lamar Jackson, mobile
Josh Allen, mobile
Patrick Mahomes, mobile
Jared Goff, mobile
Matthew Stafford, not mobile but extends plays with getting out of pocket and moving in pocket
Jalen Hurts, mobile
Justin Herbert, mobile
Baker Mayfield, mobile
CJ Stroud, mobile
Jordan Love, mobile
Jayden Daniels, mobile
Sam Darnold, surprisingly mobile
Bo Nix, mobile
Russel Wilson, mobile

NCAA CFP National Championships:

2024: Riley Leonard, mobile - Will Howard, mobile
2023: JJ McCarthy, mobile - Michael Penix, mobile
2022: Stetson Bennett, mobile - Max Duggan, mobile
2021: Stetson Bennett, mobile - Bryce Young, mobile
2020: Justin Fields, mobile - Mac Jones, not mobile but extends plays with getting out of pocket and moving pocket

I think I wrote this elsewhere, but with unlimited coaching roles available for hire, Sarkisian could easily create an "Offensive Red Zone Coordinator" position and hire someone with a proven background as a playcaller/designer in the red zone and short yardage situations. That person would collaborate with Sarkisian and have those circumstances as their main focus.

The red zone and short yardage situations have been a problem from day one for Sarkisian. He's fucking inept with those concepts. If he doesn't put in the work to fix it, which is not just film study but actually needed outside thinking and influence, then Texas will never win the whole thing with him at the helm.

He doesn't just need to polish up. He's incompetent and needs someone else managing the work in this regard.

It's been an issue with him his entire career.  Overall, he is elite in between 20s and shitty in red zone.  It's a real problem.

Bobby mentioned on OTF this morning that a few unexpected people could be hitting the portal

Some of the linemen that want a spot guaranteed after sitting or maybe some of the blue chip DB form the last class or two would be my guess.

Is there any rumor about falling out with Debeor, or Grubb wanting to branch out a bit ?

Washington fans were loling he didn't go to Bama, Bama fans were equally sad. A  lot of prognosticating its really his offense Deboer had been riding.

This would be an A+ hire

Why on earth would that dude want to be some kind of gadget offensive assistant when he can easily be an OC at a big program?

Texas fans tend to believe being a lowly assistant at Texas beats being a coordinator at any other school. Regardless of level
