Transfer Cycle 2024-2025 - JFC

Hate to lose guys, but if you told me the only "big" transfers are Muhammad and Derek Williams, I take that in a heartbeat.

It's not nothing, though. That's two 5 star recruits who were starters on an outstanding defense. Sucks to lose them, if indeed they both go.

I expect there to be more pain than just MM (and perhaps DW), personally.

It still hurts, no doubt. But my heart skipped a beat when Simmons was mentioned earlier today.

Important to remember that every departure theoretically frees up budget money to be used elsewhere. So these "losses" may end up being more like trades for other portal prospects TBD.

The unfortunate part is that we're so late to the winter portal party bc of the playoffs that no one is really available until spring.

They are both probably NFL guys. That isnt good. 1 is a definite starter and the other would at a minimum be in heavy rotation.

Killebrew was also the first name that came to mind for me. But I'm not sure I will ever forgive Wrong Way Gideon for years of pain.

Exactly what makes you think we're not prepared, or that the portal season isn't going well?

Your concept of a full rebuild is like my son's concept of a nutritious dinner; neither are tethered in fucking reality.

We're going to lose less players to the NFL draft this year and we lost last year. Some of the guys you've referenced have been flawed players for us, particulaly 2 I can think of on the OL. Oh, and Williams is leaving but Goosby looked great when he played, so obviously we're totally fucked.

I bet last year you were saying "Who's going to replace J'Tavion Sanders? Gunner Helm?!?! We're doooooomed." We have TE's on campus and we've been developing them.

Makuba is a loss, Barron is a big loss, Muhammed...eh. Gimme a healthy Derek Williams, and awesome Jelani McDonald, a returning Michael Taffe, and a good looking Kobe Black and someone from the portal.

I wont even waste my time adressing WR, the easiest position to land talent in the portal and a position where we're already stacked.

DT, everyone said we were fucked this year too. BUT THIS TIME IT'S TRUE. OkJan.gif.

No one invites that twatwaffle to parties.

Like 98% accurate post and also awesome. One nit to pick- in no world do we lose less players to the draft than last year. Last year the number was 11. I don’t see less than these 12 at a minimum:

Quinn, bond, golden, helm, banks, cam, majors, sorrell, makuba, Barron, Collins, broughton. Thats 12 that’s pretty much guaranteed.
Add to that the following possibilities: Taaffe, Moore (if they declare), and this list of- hey- it could happen (bet we get at least 1, maybe 2 picked from): Blue, Lole, Norton, Holmes, Gbenda, Bolden, Connor and you have minimum of 12- max of 16 depending upon the two guys we are still waiting to hear from. You said less than last year at 11 and my contention is no world where it’s only 10, but like I said- minor not to pick in an otherwise spot on post.

I know that. There is a shitload of talent on this team, we're gonna be losing future NFL guys every year in the portal.

Makes sense. LSU fans have been talking about getting Williams for months now. And Muhammad has not one, but two cousins who transferred to Oregon.

Also factor in, does it make sense to keep Williams on the payroll?  He will be back from a torn ACL in fall camp.  When is he truly going to be ready to play, by October?  McDonald got valuable reps this year and played well.  Jonah Williams is supposedly the highest rated DB every to sign with Texas.  Is Williams going to beat out McDonald, Taafe, Williams, JJR and is he going to stay past his Jr year?  May as well let a school like LSU keep him on payroll while we use those funds on a better ROI.

It also should change the thinking about spending for five star recruits. Perhaps it’s better to just sign those guys in the portal than spend big and risk them leaving before they even heavily contribute like Williams.

Losing sure fire starters is not typical. Losing promising back-ups is expected pain. McDonald's late season play has me less worried about Williams, but he is still a hell of a talent and it hurts depth. Muhammad leaves a hole. Not a lot of snaps left on the 40 at CB, if he leaves.

Eh, being able to have a Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill or Ryan Wingo, and be able to lock them in with them already on campus and working out, versus desperately trying to tamper them in, is clearly the ideal solution.

Right. Maybe it’s position specific. It seems like WR, DB, QB and RB are very fluid in the portal for the right price. OL and DL are much harder to find.

I don't agree. The hit rate for 5 stars is higher than 4 or 3 stars and they don't cost what an AA or CFP starter will cost as they contribute early. Sometimes they're not going to work out, but often they do.

There's arbitrage available for teams with money in two ways. Overpaying for 5 star HS guys because they're still "cheap" by comparison to major CFB starters and, separately, having a rich, old billionaire who wants to win a title before he dies and just letting him spend so much money that it causes everyone else to throw in the towel for major CFB starters. Texas has taken advantage of the first scenario and has been beaten up like everyone else in the second.

I really dislike Oregon but I think it’s because their coach looks like Herman and it gives me PTSD.

Doesn't Williams and Downs play the exact same S position? I'm pretty sure both play FS. Why would DW go to backup Downs? Make it make sense.

Well, he's going to LSU and Muhammad is the one rumored to be flirting with tOSU, so there's that.

Shocked. He was a dumbass during his recruitment. Sure, I'm glad we took him from aggy, but he's chosen to continue being a dumbass.

Ah, OK. I was pretty sure up thread there were people mentioning him to fOSU, and I was confused.

As long as NIL/portal is the Wild West with little to no restrictions, it's gonna happen a lot more.

Ohio State in particular seems adept at pulling starters from other major programs.

Johntay about to go pro in something that could land him 10-20. What a fall.

Speedster from Killeen. 19 yards per catch this year. Go get him Sark

NDs press man completely shut out the child rapist's entire WR corps. Zero catches. Not sure we need a guy with speed who can't beat press man.

Unless he was beating it but the QB was pulling a Ewers. Which is possible, I haven't watched that tape

I felt like it was more the offense and QB inability to find WR's, as had been the case most of the year.

With arch you tell fast man to go fast and hit him deep.

(i'm not saying go get him, just that I wouldn't hold that against)

AGREED. I can't stand Lanning and it's all because of looking like Herman.

You guys are really going to have some things to work through when I tell you that CTJ looks like Barry Switzer's less handsome brother.

Always respect a source who also posts direct responses to pictures of thirst traps on Twitter like he thinks he's having a private conversation.

That being said, I hope it's true, but hardly surprising. You know Cook felt lied to when he realized the "great powder" in and around seattle wasn't quite what he was expecting.

Edit: Damn you Texifornia.
