I sure hope we are tampering with the two Austin kids from Notre Dame

Greathouse is not a burner or a possession receiver. Heā€™s just a good football player that does all of the little things correctly. Heā€™s the anti Sark prospect. We would rather go get receivers who have elite speed but do not know how to block apparently.Ā

You read way too much into that post. Ā That was just a commentary of Sark being a speed whore and how unlikely it would be for him to go after a Greathouse type player.Ā

ND, whose WRs were so good they literally had a 50.7% WR receptions to 49.3% non WR receptions split?

Greathouse had 4 TDS for the season and 3 were in the playoff. Two catches for six yards vs UGA. 1 for 8 vs IU. He had 40 percent of his yardage and 75 percent of his TDS in the last two games. He had 8 games of 26 or less yards receiving. In the regular season his single game high was 66 yards in a 49 point win vs FSU.Ā

Not saying he ain't shit but people need to calm down on him being some rockstar WR.

Yeah. I'll take the Texas WR room 100/100 times.

Recency bias is a thing. Everyone sees what he did in one game last night and suddenly forgets that in the previous 15 games, he averaged 2.5 catches for 31 yards.

His best football is ahead of him and he is a good player, but if he was from Bozeman, Montana and we didn't recruit him out of HS, no one would be wishcasting his transfer to Texas.

Hell, he was from Austin, and Texas finished second in his recruitment and 12 days ago not a soul was wish casting him to Texas.

He was coming off of five games in a row where he averaged 1.2 catches for 9.8 yards.

For real, we finished 2nd in his recruitment.Ā  You guys are getting lazy with finding Sark flaws to bitch about.

Ā

Everyone take a deep breath, step back from your phone for a minute and stop reading too much into that comment. If I was bitching about Sark, which I have been known to do from time to time you would know it. I wonā€™t be subtle.Ā

A lot of wrong information about the Greathouse recruitment. Iā€™m friends with a father of one of his hs teammates. Greathouse wanted to come to Texas, but early in the recruiting season Texas had him rated behind a few other guys. By the time Texas circled back around to him as a priority he was already locked into ND and Texas could not flip him.Ā

This is how I remember it. And there were definitely people on here frustrated by that because of his tape.

I believe the terminology at the time was "He wants to be at Texas, he's saying all the right things to the coaches, but he can't bring himself to call ND and decommit"

Well, tOSU fans are crazy. I was at the Denver airport at a sports bar, and a fan was screaming for him to be fired for losing to Michigan after they had just blown out Oregon.

Well, in their defense I recall a few of us screaming for Mack Brown to be shitcanned after receiving a football enema by ou...repeatedly.

What this thread has been missing is two pages of pointless Monday morning quarterbacking about a guy that we liked but didn't love having a couple good games.

People love to wax poetic about about any Westlake player that ended up going somewhere other than Texas.Ā

I remember that recruitment. Between us and tOSU. So who is the qb next year? Air Noland transferred and this guy. Iā€™m sure they have a 5 star they signed last year. They must like whoever they have since they havenā€™t gone portal shopping for a qb.

I mean, the kid blew out his knee as a senior.Ā  In hindsight it was a bad move. At the time, only Westlake honks were questioning it. Aggy didn't recruit him, either, and they were still considered a football school back then.

Are we sure that's not revisionist history?Ā  That's the same year we recruited Applewhite, and he wasn't exactly a giant.Ā  Plus, didn't we also go after Brock Berlin that year?Ā  He was also around 6ft, IIRC.

Was Brees highly rated?Ā  I honestly don't remember hearing much about him back then.

I think Brees had strong aggy family connections -- like maybe his parents went there. Story I always heard was that RC pulled his scholarship offer when he tore up his knee so Brees went to Purdue. Not sure he would've considered Texas even if Mackovic was interested.

It was a story that one of the people who followed recruiting at the time or it was SID Bill Little telling the story in an interview.

I've followed Texas recruiting pretty closely back then (IE used to go to all the recruiting meetups/events, subscribed to the newsletters, interned in the sports department at KXAN, etc.) but don't recall anyone saying he was too short.

Of course that was pre-internet, and I also remember assuming Major Applewhite was black, and that we only recruited him to try to get Travis Minor.
