That Houston db seems like a best available portal kind of guy we should target.

We passed on him once, we’ll probably pass on him again. He’s more of a run-stopping/box safety.

We might want the UH DB, or others.

In the new format, there are 25-40% more snaps in a season against P4 (hell, P2) opponents than before. I think Sark knows that he needs more guys to physically play snaps at a high level. I understand perfectly why they would try to sign more guys, not because they’re needed to finish the regular season, but because they’re needed to finish the post season,  too.

Taaffe, Derek Williams, McDonald, Jonah Williams, Hicks, Filsaime, Johnson Rubell

probably a few others that could end up there like Roberson.

The DB room in general looks full. You take that safety from Houston and you lose a Filsaime, Derek Williams type guy to the portal most likely. They seem to like the development there of the 2nd year guys.

It seems Brian doesn’t have a great relationship with Kennedy’s mom. From 2018:

Quote

Tyna Karageorge, the mother of Brian Urlacher’s 12-year-old son, has filed a lawsuit against the former Bears great claiming he and others conspired to “paint her as a murderer,” TMZ reports.

Urlacher and Karageorge, then known as Robertson, had a son, Kennedy, together in 2005. Robertson had custody of the son when she married Ryan Karageorge in 2016.

In December of 2016, Ryan Karageorge died from a gunshot wound after arguing with his wife.

In the days after Karageorge’s death, Urlacher won temporary custody of Kennedy.

Urlacher then stated:

Given that a death by gunshot occurred during an argument in Tyna’s home, and is under investigation by the police and there is likely to be media reporting and coverage, the environment with Tyna is a serious endangerment to the child’s mental, moral or physical health, and if the child is required to return to Tyna’s care, it will significantly impair his emotional development.

The medical examiner later determined the gunshot was self-inflicted.

In addition to attorneys, Tyna Karageorge has named the Chicago Tribune and one of its reporters as defendants in the suit.

Filed in Bridgeview, Illinois, the suit reportedly seeks $125 million.

The corner from Houston is who we should snag

I think our bigger issue at DB is how to play all the dudes we already have. A guy like Santana Wilson might be pretty good, but he’ll probably be third team before too long.

And we’ve already got two spots for three guys at safety.

Living in Raleigh, being able to tell the locals we got Adrian Wilson's kid knowing he wouldn't play for 2-3 years is pretty funny.

Well he's a safety so there's that

They have a corner who was a stud enter portal — Jeremiah Wilson.  He’s the one we should consider.  He was one of the best cover corners in college football. Daucy is the safety.  We don’t need a safety and adding one could cause attrition.

Jeremiah Wilson is a junior defensive back for the Houston Cougars, recognized as one of the top cornerbacks in college football for his standout 2024 season. Originally from Kissimmee, Florida, Wilson played high school football at Osceola High School before starting his college career at Syracuse (2022-2023) and transferring to Houston for the 2024 season. His skills in coverage, interception ability, and work ethic have earned him significant accolades and attention from NFL scouts. Below are the specific awards he has earned, based on available information.

Awards Earned by Jeremiah Wilson

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football First-Team Defense (2024):

Wilson was selected to the First-Team Defense by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football for his performance during the 2024 season with the Houston Cougars. This recognition highlights his status as one of the top defensive players in Texas.

First-Team All-Texas Honors (2024):

As part of his standout season, Wilson earned First-Team All-Texas honors from Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, further cementing his reputation as a premier cornerback in the state.

Notable Achievements and Context

While the above are the specific awards explicitly mentioned, Wilson’s 2024 season included performances that contributed to his award recognition:

Statistical Highlights:

In 2024, Wilson played in all 12 games for Houston, starting the final eight. He recorded 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and eight passes defended.

His four interceptions included a 41-yard pick-six against Baylor, the Cougars’ only touchdown in that game.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Wilson had an 86.9 defensive grade (highest on Houston’s team and fourth among Power Four cornerbacks) and an 87.8 coverage grade (seventh among Power Four cornerbacks, second in the Big 12).

His 88.6 coverage grade ranked eighth nationally among cornerbacks, with only three catches allowed on 11 targets in five games.

Key Performances:

Wilson’s pick-six and early interception against Baylor set the tone for Houston’s defensive effort.

His coverage prowess led to teams rarely throwing in his direction, with him stating, “Teams don’t really throw my way right now.”

Prior Recognition:

At Syracuse in 2023, Wilson’s 72.5 coverage grade ranked sixth among ACC underclassmen.

As a true freshman at Syracuse in 2022, he was one of three freshmen to play in every game, contributing 21 tackles and three special teams tackles.

Additional Context

Transfer Portal Activity: Wilson entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in December 2024 but withdrew shortly after, choosing to stay with Houston. He re-entered the portal in April 2025, drawing interest from programs like UNC, FSU, Colorado, and Oregon, indicating his high value as a player.

Work Ethic: Wilson’s rigorous schedule, starting at 5 a.m. with weight room sessions, film study, and extra drills, has been praised by coaches and teammates, contributing to his elite performance.

Ranking: PFF ranked him as the No. 8 returning cornerback for the 2025 season, underscoring his national prominence.

Conclusion

Jeremiah Wilson’s primary awards are the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football First-Team Defense and First-Team All-Texas Honors for 2024, reflecting his exceptional contributions to the Houston Cougars’ defense.

Santana Wilson will find the field this year, he is getting good reviews in camp.

Going to contradict myself here a bit, but I wonder if they brought in a guy like that Houston corner, if they would move Guilbeau back to star. You'd almost kind of have to. I don't see a situation where Guilbeau isn't one of those starting five DBs and Wardell Mack is the starting star.

Of course I thought it was nuts last year when we were moving Barron to corner. Jury's still out on that one, IMO.

I think knee jerking to two starts is for the fans and not coaches and their recruiting decisions.

Didn’t Ulracher’s mother freeze to death in a ramshackle house a day or two after a bowl  game?

edit: I’m thinking of some other Shrek like ogre that played DL for Notre Dame…who was that?

Stone is pulling his name back out of the portal. Makes you wonder WTF is going on over there.

Nagy folded ??

thing is, i doubt any school was about to pay Stone what he was making at ou in the first place.. so it's really fun to see ou having to pay him while he most likely stays being 2nd or 3rd string this season

The arms race is on.

If Georgia's QB shows he can throw they could be very good. If he doesn't that'll be their downfall. The top of the sport is too juiced up in the arms race to survive having a QB that isn't a plus passer. OSU doesn't win the title last season if Howard doesn't get it together and throw it better during the playoffs than he had ever before.

Listening to last night's OTF stream, Bobby pointed out that we've already taken 4 DL thus far in the portal.

BPA is the theme going forward, and I wonder if one of those transfers decides to jump ship a la Kendrick Blackshire.

I think Shaw's knee is worse than was advertised. Otherwise we might be done at DT.

But either way Watson is starter quality for us, for multiple seasons.
