I'm rooting for ND, but it isn't for the fucking lulz. On a surface level, the playoff looks like more of a success if one of the Powers of the last decade don't win it. MIchigan last year was great, but going back to Ohio State this year can fuck right off. I'd say the same thing for GA, Alabama, even Clemson, etc.

On a much more visceral level, I dont really want Ohio State boosters getting a good ROI in their fucking NIL investment. We don't need those fuckers feelng incented to keep throwing around 25-30 million a year in NIL.

I didn't realize that my take was neg-worthy. I guess TeamDirtyLeg really hates Catholics, ND, or really loves Ryan Day. LIke LOVES.

Also I didn't realize Ohio State was somehow a school that displayed their faith openly. Must have missed that. Did Ryan Day buy a Jesus Butt Plug or something and post about it on reddit? Meanwhile, Ole' Dabo and Clemson apparently just don't NIL in the image of Christ quite enough.

To be clear, I don't think any of the 3 of us deserve any direct credit for anything that has transpired with retention over the past few days. Could be wrong about the other two guys, but I've not been involved with any of it other than bullshitting with folks.

Yeah, no plaudits over here. I’d have let the dude walk.

Also the school that MM was considering is absolutely shocking and has no fucking business blowing (Seemingly) their entire NIL budget on a fucking corner. Their donors would have been much better off paying the HC buyout this year or saving it for next year

Almost like it wasn't real, or wasn't good information.

Ah yes, the SEC famously doesn't talk about or thank Jesus enough, that's definitely the trick. And the Boise State coach awkwardly dropping in a testimony in every single sideline interview didn't really mean it.

i didn't, but i probably should have, might neg later

if you're a Texas fan and aren't rooting against notre dame you are missing the big picture

you do NOT want to live in an era where the Yankees of CFB are successful in football

nobody gives a goddamn fuck if the playoffs are "successful" this year, and anyone who says so is full of shit

It wasn’t NIL, it was Jesus. We need more Jesus to win, obviously. Or Jesús, per Helio

Also REALLY?? This thread has gotten off topic 18 times in the past 24 hours and that’s what you harp on? Take a joke man.

Oh man, now Clemson winning the ACC title game and getting into the playoffs makes so much sense.

Good to know Jesus has enough free time on his hands to fix college football games.

Jesus is like, omnipresent, dude. He has all the time on his hands.

Jesus was busy when they lost to NIU

Nah, classical Biblical story arc. NIU was the crucifixion, CFP was the resurrection, and beating OSU will be the ascension into heaven.

And just for fun, beating aggy at Kyle was flipping tables at the temple in Jerusalem.

Ohio State went all in for 2024.  I have spoken directly to a number of second tier donors (tier below Wexner and a few others) regarding the 2024 spending flurry.  Almost everyone basically contributed their limit under significant pressure. Ohio State will obviously remain a big NIL player but many of these guys have little interest in annually replicating the 2024 effort particularly since they will probably walk away with the title and they were told this was a bit of a one off. That said, it would have been better for everyone else if they had beaten Michigan.  It will be very interesting to see how much NIL endurance donors ultimately have. Can Ohio State much less the likes of Ole Miss do this annually or will donor bases jump in strategically when the HS recruits on the roster justify a big NIL push for a particular season.

Ellison, Phil Knight and Wexner are all 80+ and could die next week.  The depth of the NIL donor base will prove to be incredibly important for sustainability and Texas is possibly without peer in terms of donor depth.

Everyone aligned to go all in and the QB they chose was Will Howard? I get that it may actually work out for them, but that's certainly a move.

That, and I would look forward to them eviscerating their coach all offseason who has a damn near 90% winning percentage and driving him to the NFL. tOSU much like Oklahoma seems to have been largely historically immune from bad hires with a few exceptions. Watching Oklahoma come to grips with the fact that they can actually fuck up has been fun. I would love to see tOSU go through a down cycle as well.

So much this. tOSU has never had a down period in my entire life (and I'm a man). I would love so much for them to spend a little time wandering the wilderness like everyone else has to from time to time.

OTF is reporting that the last they knew (last night), Trey Moore was set to return to Texas in lieu of declaring for the draft.

However, that was no guarantee, as he's flip-flopped a lot in recent weeks.

Well that is fucking worthless. He may stay or may leave. Thanks OTF

I don't think it's worthless. He had to make the decision by last night, so it's an indicator that it may not actually be a 50/50 chance at this point. It's more likely he returns, IMO. I'm betting we find out for sure, today.

Yesterday was the last day to tell the school. 48 hours is tomorrow. Names have to be in within 48 hours

That was my understanding, thanks. Have to imagine that if someone has requested the school to put in the paperwork we would have heard about it. That seems to be the way it has worked other places that get a lot of scrutiny like Texas.

I feel there's probably a handful of posters on this site that can justifiably attempt to lecture me on "the big picture" of college football, maybe, and buddy, you're not on that list. You can go back to defending Mack Brown and Charlie Strong with every last shrill cry from your body.

I have news for you. Ohio State is already there, and have been for decades, and the acadmic standards at ND will continue to act as more of a governor to their talent acquisition than what exists (nothing) at Ohio State. Additionaly, they have more booster money than ND. And I've suffered through a decads of the same 5-6 teams winning the title, I'm pretty sure 'Bama or others can claim to be the fucking Yankees more than ND, who's been irrelevent. But you go ahead and piss yourself worrying about the <checks notes> 120k living alumni Notre Dame might bring to bear in NIL becuase the Catholics might be mean to you. As opposed to Texas's 530k, or 600k. And honestly, ND is the only other brand than Texas than can probably be seen as a Darth Vader of college football. Give me another villain.

It's math. Also, I give a shit about the playoffs being succesful. I care about this sport. Are you telling me I'm full of shit and lying?

Yes.

With ND, it's not the actual alumni you have to worry about. It's about the millions of fans they have who never went there, and NBC carrying the torch of what they see as the premium brand in the sport.

We have enjoyed a couple of happy decades where Notre Dame hasn't been relevant. But if you think for one minute that Notre Dame can't charge right back up that mountain, academic standards or not...

You need Notre Dame to lose, whether you know it or not.

This reminds me of the blue mountain state episode where the starter gets suspended for hanging out with the tranny prostitute and gets unsuspended at the end and says something about “it was God’s will for me to be unsuspended and play for BMS” lmao

This is key!  Totally aligned here.  Hate Notre Dame despite being Catholic, but would root for them over the scum of the earth couch burners.

It is a premium brand. Who gives a shit? I'm supposed to be scared of some other blue blood down on their luck becoming less so? What I absolutely DO know is that, for lack of a better word, T-shirt fans and loose fans with no formal affiliation to their school RARELY donate to NIL. Most don't even fucking know what NIL collectives are, and they aren't on email lists for fundraising or anything else. So, uh, yeah, in this instance, it is the actual fucking alumni who put dollars into NIL programs that you have to fucking worry about, you fucking knob. It's clear from this post that you don't actually understand the big picture of college football at all, these days. The things you've cited are mere nuisances and hypothericals compared to the actual fire breathing dragon we're dealing with, right now, with Ohio State and their NIL machine.

There's an 800 lb gorilla threating to NowThis you, but you're acting unconcerned becuase some other gorilla may or may not show up at a later date to pink sock you. Thanks, I'm good with Ohio State alums taking a hit, maybe being more reticient with their donations in the future, and what is possibly the most obnoxious fanbase in college football taking one in the dick after decades of pretty much continued success.

Tremendous. This leaves Rimbo as the lone motherfucker titling at this windmill of stupidity. It's been a long time Rimbo, it's nice to know you can put on your Helobious Bad Take shoes after all these years and have them fit so snugly.
