There is a bit more to it than that.  He was locked into Cal and was set to sign and supposedly, Cal's current QB called him the night before and talked shit.  Pissed off, he surprised everyone, including Oregon coaches, by signing with Oregon the next morning.  Mendoza then promptly leaves Cal (why the fan base hates his guts now- leave if you want but fuck you for sabotaging on your way out) and JKS is in Oregon.  Now Mendoza is gone and Cal has been backchannelling to have him come in anyways as a transfer.  Oregon is spinning it that he saw the competition in Eugene and is leaving for Cal because he will start but Cal is getting a 2nd portal QB because they only have 2 QBs on scholarship currently and they both suck so it is not 100% guaranteed they hand him the ball day 1 (Devin Brown is being whispered about as the other guy). Did he see the Oregon QB room and decide to leave?  Maybe.  But Cal is "supposedly" where he wanted to go so its not a huge surprise if he goes back.

All allegedly, of course.

Damn he sure showed him. What an all time pussy move if true.

Huh?

I think Thomas is a perfect fit for next year's team. Thomas is pretty damn athletic for his size. Why do you think he's not a downfield threat? That's exactly who he is. He's a more athletic Collin Johnson.

Thomas is also a very good blocker on the perimeter. In all likelihood, we are going to be running more to the perimeter next year with Arch.

If he really is that versatile then it makes more sense. I just know Sark likes a "take the top off" speed guy, and that will become a weapon again with Manning at QB.

There has got to be penalities for this kind of crap.

To me you basically get rid of the nonsense by going to this system:

-5 years from the day you graduate HS to get a maximum of 5 seasons playing in. No more redshirts, medical redshirts, JUCO nonsense, etc. 5 years is all you get no matter any circumstances.

-Everyone gets 1 free no penalty transfer in the portal. Players who graduate college get another free transfer as a grad transfer. Players on teams where the head coach leaves for any reason get a 15 day window from the moment the coach leaves to enter the portal and get a no penalty transfer. Every other transfer sits out 1 year from the date of enrollment in the school.

That knocks out a ton of the problems right there.

But more likely is coming to learn from Sarkisian before entering the coaching world.

This is my read. Probably has some kind of connection with the Texas staff either from the Baylor/Tx State staffs or his dad and wants to get into coaching. Basically a GA that can double as a practice body.

I get your point, but he went from 2022 80%, 2023, 83%, and 2024 68%. I'd say that's regression and he's in his own head. That's a steep drop-off. These aren't anything past 40 yards, these are 40 and closer. Bobby even mentioned he spoke with a former Longhorn kicker who even said Bert is in his own head and he has to figure it out. 9 days from now I don't think the bulb is just going to come on for him. It may, but I doubt it.

He's not 68% from 40 and closer.  That kick the other day was the first he's missed inside of 40yards all season. He has been terrible from beyond 40 yards, but I don't call that a "gimme", especially for a college kicker. That's what I was challenging.

I don't disagree he's in his own head on longer kicks, because he clearly has a strong leg and has had success from 40+ yards in previous seasons. But those aren't gimmes.

I don’t care what he is from inside the 40. 40-50 is money making kicks and kicks that can win you games. He’s flat out bad this year and needs to go. Bring in someone better.

also I’m not sure if you’ve been watching football as a whole but kickers are so much better with bigger legs now days than probably the days your referencing.

He’s 6/12 from 40-49 and 0-2 from 50+

This has to be a joke. If not, jeez we make fun of aggy?

Going to claim ignorance here, but he could be walking on correct? Playing practice squad and learning under Sark, maybe become an assistant post graduation would be one helluva resume builder. Makes a TON of sense for a QB who's dad is a HC in Texas HS football. Also, could open recruiting doors down the way. If a walk on I see nothing but upside in this one.

You guys fixate on the dumbest shit. The walk-on QB is completely irrelevant. There’s actual portal stuff happening.

 The dumbest shit?

Vince Vaughn GIF

We're about to see some really impressive shit posting from users who are blocked by everyone who knows how the ignore button works...fully expect to look at this thread and have like ten comments between 1130 and 330 of some of those idiots going back and forth with each other about how this QB ACTUALLY will be the one to unlock the offense vs Ohio State because he played under the a position vosch for Nebraska, who almost beat them in 2021, and there's a player his dad coached who was at Mizzou last year for the bowl game as an EE - or something equally as foololish as that.

Yeah, I think he is a better option than that dude we had from New Jersey. He is huge and all he needs to do is anchor the middle. Seems like a great Norton replacement. He was a five star and the top player in NC when he came out:

Shaw is a thick built player with a powerful lower half. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 330 pounds he is still athletic enough to play all over the defensive line with great production. He is light on his feet and makes plays off the edge and the interior. With his power and bull rush he does an excellent job pushing the pocket and causing disruption. Shaw is has excellent awareness and is able to read and react on plays that are away from him, chasing them down from the backside. He has good flexibility in his hips and he can drop his weight and turn the corner when rushing the passer. He has to continue to work on playing with a low pad level and utilizing his hands when he gets off blocks, along with adding pass rusher moves to his game. Shaw brings athleticism not normally seen in a player his size, that makes for his upside to being off the charts and him projecting to being a Power Five starter for multiple years. I think that he projects as an All Conference player with the chance of being a 1st round pick in the NFL Draft.

We certainly need some big bodies but I hope he's (relatively) cheap.

The guy's historic production coupled with UNC's "development" of its defensive players suggests he may not be a serious contributor.

On the upside you know he's really motivated by orange slices and cookies.
