You didn't answer the question.

Why ban drag shows if they don't affect anyone?

Why?  Sex (and sexuality/gender) is protected class.  That's why it's discriminatory to take action against someone because of their sexuality/gender (among many other things).

Did you ever take a fucking civics class?

Doesn't seem very protected now does it?

Why care if they're banned if they don't affect anyone? Instead of a drag show on campus just go to one on w 5th or wherever the fuck they have them.

Because it's just like in the election cycle the ads targeting transgender, they work for the masses. So conservatives are using drag shows to win points with the masses. Seems pretty simple.

Would you be OK with conservatives banning mixed race marriages to win points with the masses?

How so?  You seem to be fine with banning things that a lot of people find icky.  Why not mixed race or gay marriage?  Why not the rights of minorities to vote?  Hell, the rights of women to vote?

I'd say you're smarter than this, but I'm not so sure.

Interfacial marriage is right around mid 90s approval % so that doesn't appeal to the masses and would hurt them in doing so where as transgender sits roughly at about low 30s in approval % with bulk of that coming from one party.

So we should determine whether to protect marginalized groups based on how well they poll?

What a country.

I ignore everything Fantana says and did not see him mention me until your post. Trump cannot manipulate markets enough to suppress my business. I didn’t vote for him in ‘16 when his market manipulation attempts were an unknown. So, you’re wrong. I disagree with just about everything he’s doing.

Shitting on people for points in violation of the constitution is shitting on people for points in violation of the constitution.

If the constitution doesn't protect one disfavored minority, it doesn't protect any.

I would stand pretty fucking firm for the right of the student MAGA club to hold a demonstration demanding the deportation of everyone who wasn't at least 3rd generation American-born.   Not just even though I find their position abhorrent, but BECAUSE I find their position abhorrent.  "Public opinion" on a particular expression has zero to do with whether it is subject to constitutional protection.

But don't worry, I'm a grown-ass man, and I fully realize that we live in a post-Constitutional Republic, and folks like you are just fine with it (your acquiescence is the driving reason WHY we live in a post-Constitutional Republic).  I just think it's shitty, and I think that you're shitty.

They're going for cheap appeal to the masses for points....so yeah. In the big post election discussion thread it was a conclusion that democrats need to quit being pussies, take the gloves off, and start fighting fire with fire. Quit fucking being victims about everything and step the fuck up. Republicans are in a win at all cost mentality, be damned of the way things are with regards to constitution.

Some of yall way overblow the shift.

This bears repeating: https://www.yahoo.com/news/texas-bill-increase-oversight-universities-222919953.html

State lawmakers introduced on Thursday sweeping legislation that would create a new office to police higher education institutions, currently under fire by conservatives who claim they are not complying with a statewide ban on diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

The bill also proposes giving universities’ governing boards more power to hire administrators and oversee curricula. The boards have traditionally allowed the institutions they oversee to manage some of those affairs in the spirit of respecting their academic independence.

Senate Bill 37 would create an Office of Excellence in Higher Education within the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The new office, led by a governor appointee, would be responsible for investigating claims that universities and colleges have broken state laws or their own policies.

1. You do know that trans /= drag, right? It seems like you don’t.

2. It seems to me that as a freedom loving American we should hold firm on protecting the rights of all of us and not base policy for constitutionally protected rights based on a poll of popular opinion.

This is the part I don't get.  They act like people are being dragged off the street and forced to watch Clockwork Orange style.

Seems like an easy solution to me.

Loyalty test. If you'll let this go unchecked, you'll let the next thing go, and so on, and so on.

Gas chambers didn't just appear one morning.

UT is just the local facet of the overall greater move towards totalitarianism.

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-freezes-175m-upenn-funds-over-trans-women-2047100

Quote

The Trump administration has frozen $175 million in federal funding from the University of Pennsylvania because of its policies that allow trans women to compete in women's sports.

"Promises made, promises kept," said a post on X, formerly Twitter, by Trump's rapid response communications team in the White House, sharing a Fox Business report about the funding freeze.

A UPenn spokesperson told Newsweek the college was aware of the reports of the freeze but has "not yet received any official notification or any details."

"It is important to note, however, that Penn has always followed NCAA and Ivy League policies regarding student participation on athletic teams," the spokesperson said.

"We have been in the past, and remain today, in full compliance with the regulations that apply to not only Penn, but all of our NCAA and Ivy League peer institutions."

...

Fox Business cited a senior administration official as saying this action is "just a taste" of what is to come for UPenn, and said the freeze relates to discretionary funding from the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The official reportedly said the university is "still at risk of losing all its federal funding" over the Title IX investigation into UPenn for allowing trans swimmer Lia Thomas to compete on the women's team and use women's facilities such as locker rooms.

Just fucking insane the degree of hatred that trans people get for simply trying to live their lives and participate in society. It's not even about them in particular, they're just the people in the crosshairs while a madman is at the trigger

Conservatives think using preferred pronouns is an infringement of their rights, so appealing to freedom goes the opposite direction.

BUDAPEST, April 27 (Reuters) - Hungary's parliament passed legislation on Tuesday setting up foundations to take over the running of universities and cultural institutions in a move critics say extends the ideological imprint of the ruling right-wing government.
Currently, most Hungarian universities are owned by the state but have a large amount of academic autonomy.

The bill, drafted by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's deputy, says the universities need to be reorganised and run by foundations because modern conditions require a "re-thinking of the role of the state" and the foundations will manage institutions more efficiently.
