AOC accepting a $4,500 raise (not even voting on it, just accepting an automatic adjustment) - WHAT A HYPOCRITE!

Trump the swamp-drainer repeatedly funneling millions of taxpayer dollars to his golf resorts - TOTALLY LEGAL, TOTALLY COOL.

These guys are a blast to watch. Shooting themselves in the dick repeatedly will never stop being funny.

I’m aware. I just like her double talk and justification. Congress needs these raises so they’ll be less likely to enter lobbying or take advantages of any loopholes they might know about or insider trade.  Lololol.

She sure fell right in line on that one.

OK, how much should congress men and women get paid?  Do you know?

2) she mentioned multiple times how raises were needed to keep Congressmen and women from being tempted by corruption. That’s bullshit.

what exactly is bullshit about it?  congratulations on your high moral values, but it's pretty much an undeniable, indisputable fact that well off people don't normally rob banks or shoplift.  the less financially stressed a border patrol agent is, the less likely he is to take a bribe to let a carload of drugs drive through.

aoc is also the one that came up with the idea of using taxpayer dollars to fund elections.  sounds stupid and excessive at first (for a country that's deep in debt and doesn't have enough tax dollars to begin with), but at second thought would keep lobbyist and pacs and corruption out of our politicians.  when exxon gives you a million dollars you're somewhat beholden to them.

This stuff is honestly incredible to watch. Dotard is treating the people's money like his own personal bank. But here we are watching dumbasses get mad about this. What a shitshow of a country we live in right now.

Here's a thought for you:  W left the country in such bad shape that people were willing to vote for some black guy who had never held any office before in the hopes he could rescue the economy (among other things).  That's how bad it was.

Ummm...never held office?

11 years as a State and US Senator = “never held office”.  Interesting.

Did you know Barack was a community organizer?

Jesus was a community organizer too.

How do you know how I feel about Trump’s hotels?

I think it’s funny to watch the socialist bartender tie herself in knots over her pay raise, including denying it’s a raise and claiming it’s to prevent she and her colleagues from engaging in bad behavior. So sue me.

i think it's funny that every politician and elected official now feels the need to address potential corruption concerns because we have a corrupt criminal in the white house.

i could be wrong, but i think asking the citizenship question in 1950 might be a little different than asking it now, under an administration that is currently putting brown people in cages.  maybe i'm overthinking it.

The were putting yellow people in cages in the 40's.  And they were citizens.

No Icono sightings since May 8....Neither the hapless Texans mismanagement of the GM hiring nor the Iran tankers incident has drawn him out. Somebody needs to check Harris County arrest records for Persian-looking names in the second week of May.

We're separating families and putting them into camps in the desert where we further neglect them medically and socially. It's not much of a stretch, and we're following the same trajectory as early nazi germany, at least in tactics used to demonize groups as "other" and thus inferior. If you'd like I'd be happy to list some examples for you

So when children show up at the border just keep them with the people that brought them? What if they are human traffickers?

Where do we put them all? Keep children with other adults too?

Hundreds of thousands of people trying to come, what happens to them when they show up?

Do all the immigrants coming in legally (or waiting to) get skipped over?

It's a complicated issue, but clearly the crisis cannot be boiled down to "we're seperating families".

It's more the rampant disregard for human rights and unnecessary trauma being inflicted on children and families in the effort of creating a deterrent. It's the application of a zero-tolerance policy of treating people like dangerous and violent criminals no matter what for what is a misdemeanor violation of US law.

Well for a start, we could stop arbitrarily separating families without evidence or due process. And then we could resume the practice of not incarcerating people while they await their immigration court hearing, because families show up over 90% of the time, and nearly 98% of the time when they have legal representation (which is a constitutionally guaranteed right even for non-citizens).

That would honestly go a long, long way to reducing the strain on the concentration camps immigration detention facilities.

EDIT: or do you prefer your solutions a bit more "final"?

what if we grant them asylum?

So scrap the entire immigration system and border control and grant anyone who enters asylum? I'd feel bad for the people who waited to immigrate legally. Faster to just come in and ask for asylum.

haha GOT ME there on that edit, how clever, call your enemies Nazis and you don't really have to argue ideas at all, brilliant!

I think it's hilarious to simply call every person that comes across with kids a family. Sorry, but there's human smuggling and child trafficking going on across the border. Ignoring that would be a huge mistake.

So while they (whoever they are?) await their immigration court hearing, they are free to come into the US and just... not work ? Work? How do they survive? Who feeds them, where do they live? I don't think you have thought this through at all.

Well, I guess I'm blocking zavala. I know he's a troll but I hoped he'd at least engage with what I was saying. Now he's just ignoring what I'm saying and using an edge case to justify one-size-fits-all policy.

And again, that policy isn't designed to make anything better. It's designed to be as terrible as possible so it will act as a deterrent. Ignoring that in favor of intellectually dishonest "protect the children!" rhetoric, while denying those children adequate medical care and inflicting emotional trauma upon them.

We tried the same thing in the 50s with Operation Wetback. It didn't work then and it isn't working now. Of course, then as now the cruelty was really the point all along.

That settles it, let's send them over to Hugos casa.

This isn't a spontaneous event. Many of these people have been orchestrated, drug smuggling, and human trafficking is mixed in with the actual "refugees" if you wanna call them that.

You really think drug smugglers are checking in to apply for asylum on their way to smuggle drugs to their contacts in the US?

How about this - don’t issue an executive order forbidding them from working to earn their Lee while they’re waiting.  If you think they should at least work to support themselves, then you should realize that the Trump admin order banning asylum seekers form working is counter-productive, and is done just to be a dick.

I'd argue work isn't the primary motive for a significant number of migrants who have yet to settle here. Asylum claims have risen 1,700 percent over the last 10 years due to gang violence and worsening economic conditions in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Those nations haven't fostered educations or skills that could translate to much useful work here anyhow, making the U.S. just a slightly-nicer destination to continue persecution.

Where does the list of free shit conclude, since they must wait a minimum of 180 days for a work permit from USCIS, assuming their permit for residency passes at all?

I dunno. We got an illiterate afghan woman a job as a hote housekeeper so she can support her family. It can be done. It’s down all the time.

You can’t gripe on the one hand that while they’re waiting on asylum, they won’t work to support themselves, and then on the other hand FORBID them from working while they wait.

What is your solution?  Is your solution separating 4 months olds from their parents?  Is your solution putting children in concentration camps?

Because that appears to be your solution right now, and your only argument in support of it is that others don't have a perfect solution to people coming across the border.

We've spent the last 100 years fucking up their countries. If all we "give" them is the right to come and work here we're quite literally getting away with murder, but yeah, you go on thinking they don't even deserve that.

Exactly.  How soon we forget the Jews voluntarily walking hundreds of miles to Poland for work during WW2.
