There is not a better feeling in the world, than being in a small camp with a window unit in each room, all cranked down as low as they go (usually 62-65).  Quite literally the best sleep I ever get.

I like open windows and silence. Like being able to hear something approaching the lair.

Wow, so cross the border and apply for welfare.
Our population will explode quick.

End of residential investment properties. No one is going to want them if they lose money under her crazy proposals.

Just a couple of things from her proposals.

78 degrees is totally acceptable during day. I run that, and drop it to 76 at night. Of course I have lived most of life without central a/c.

Agree.  My wife is cranking the mother up (down to 75 day, 73 night) and that's way to cold for me.

That's 78, standing desk, with small recirculating fan.

Im all for prison reforms of all types, but to say we need to abolish prisons and people don't belong in cages. What do we do with murderers and rapists?

She isn't wrong. We need to fundamentally rethink our criminal justice system. Having more people in prison per capita than any other country (by far) is not a good look.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/uk/06/prisons/html/nn2page1.stm (US at 737 per 100,000, next closest is Russia at 615 per 100,000, other Western democracies are closer to ~100-150). Slightly different rankings here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_incarceration_rate. But, we are still on top! USA! USA! USA!

Does that mean no jails at all? No. But abolishing for profit prisons would be a nice start.

I really don't think we have a clear read on her proposal here.  It's not absurd to think the for-profit prison industry is one of the worst things the US has inflicted on the poor and minority populations since, oh, slavery.

So for profit prisons = slavery?
Or even worse?
What say?? Thats fuckin crazy. People who have no idea what slavery was like making such statements is crazy. Yes owning innocent black people as pets and free labor is the same as some guy committing violent crimes and getting sent to a private prison. Hey whitey, you done swung too far the other way.
Some small counties cant afford ro build large new state of the art jails so they use the private lock ups. Or the state doesnt want to build more prisons so private prisons get used.

I agree there needs to be reform for nonviolent offenders but to blanket say get rid off all private prisons is way out there.
This is what I mean when I say for every great thing AOC says there are 10 illogical ideas she supports.

Imprisoning people shouldn’t be profitable because the fact that it is is why we shape policy to imprison so many people, most of whom are minorities.

$80 haircut and $180 for lowlights.

First off, most of y'all would fucking murder someone for your wife to get their hair done it at that price.

Secondly, she makes $174,000.  Big. Fucking. Whoop.

That steel wool frayed tampon dyed in fine golden lineaments that Trump calls his hairdo had to cost about $300, no?  Maybe tree-fiddy?

Forget the price . . . forget that she's not a self-declared "socialist" . . . in what world would a democratic socialist be prohibited from spending 2% of their monthly income on a trip to the hair salon that they probably only take every couple of months?

The pettiness of the right-wing media and its audience just astounds me.

one shouldn't post a 45 minute video with no explanation and expect anyone to watch it.

Watch from where its already cued up until it gets to AOC. Point of the video is that AOC is actually very smart re: Amazon "leaving" NYC.

edit: start watching the next 2-3 minutes at 27:08, where it's cued up, for an explanation of why AOC was right re: HQ2. for @hayden_horn

https://esd.ny.gov/excelsior-jobs-program

If they hit the job creation goals, they still get the tax credits. It was never just an Amazon only special deal. This continues to be misunderstood by AOC and Doc Brown or whoever that guy is.

The only difference is that Manhattan will get the jobs instead of Queens and efforts to spread job centers and increase reverse commuting will be thwarted.
