I don't know, it looks to me like the national cadre of people who readily support bigoted white "conservatives" espousing demonstrably horrible, oft-debunked "policy" ideas yet who bare their fangs about a young Latina woman might actually be
racists
misogynists
ageists
morons.

You choose, dbeasy, because any defense based on actual political positions is, well, indefensible.

Not true jimmy jazz. Take immigration. There are some very reasonable middle ground ideas for a fair immigration policy. Yet I’ve seen you in particular along with others constantly make jokes on these threads about republicans hating brown people. It’s not funny and it’s unproductive.

I can’t defend anyone voting for Trump in the next election. His true colors have been laid bare for everyone to see, and I certainly won’t do it. But using Trump’s flaws as a rationale for calling anyone and everyone a racist just because they don’t agree with a policy like immigration is just stupid and immature. Are there racists who vote for Trump? Sure. He’s terrible and has attracted the worst people to support him. How about I just label you Antifa and a terrorist. That’s what you do when you paint the brush of racism against everyone that disagrees with you.

The next "very reasonable middle ground idea for a fair immigration policy" I see supported by the right will be the first.  In point of fact, the left is responsible for virtually all such policy proposals.  So, no.  What's unfunny and unproductive is cloaked racism.

You’ve chosen to lump all people into one bucket of “the right”. Not everyone agrees with every proposal from hardline republicans. And not every idea on immigration is bad. For example, Canada is considered a very welcoming country to immigrants and has had great success with immigration. Well guess what? They have merit based immigration. I happen to disagree with a policy that is fully merit based, but a merit based immigration policy can be beneficial.

Remember where this whole string of posts originated. AOC was called out for having some naive and dumb ideas, which is an objective fact, not an opinion. And who brought race into the conversation? You and your buddies. For all the talk about abhorring racism, you guys make it about race almost as often as the idiots on the right.

It’s fine though. There is a 5-15% block of voters in the middle, of which I am a part, that will decide your political futures for you. At this point, you are lucky that Trump is such a despicable person. It guarantees a win no matter who you run or how many times you call the 5-15% racists.

Irony deafness. Actually, you're just disingenuous. You know you're stirring up trouble while hiding behind a horrendously dumbed down version of the Socratic method. The approach is at about the level of Socrates' toe cheese.

Yep, so disingenuous that I'm using the Sacratic method, especially when you asked me a question, so answered with a question.

You can think it's the lowest of the low, but its wired that you'd try it as well.

Bullshit.  "Naive and dumb" are opinions, not fact.

Well, even racists know enough not to say "I dislike AOC because she isn't white".  A few will, but most won't.  It's a stupid point.

Let's take a trip in the time machine, shall we?  The first post on this thread that alluded to her race and her gender was . . . wait for it . . . post #11:

@XR4ticlone

Quote

With She Guevara, we've got potentially 50 years of dipshittery to look forward to!

The second was post #24, at least regarding her gender:

@Anastasis

Quote

She seems like she has nice tits.

So, we have a conservative first, and a right-leaning libertarian second.  Hmmm.  The left is the problem here?

People wonder why the two political parties are at each other throats when it’s obvious it’s because of idiots like you on both sides.

You devolve every conversation into calling people names without ever taking responsibility for your own actions that caused the issues in the first place. And it’s pointless to try to explain basic facts to you because it always circles back around to you constantly whining about the other side thru your own warped perspective of reality.

This thread is about AOC. The facts are that she has advocated some very naive and unrealistic ideas. And yet you morons can’t even understand that because you are so blinded by your ideology. So instead, you little punks start crying racist racist again, like you always do.

Then, you are so stupid, that you can’t even understand how your own infantile behavior causes people to cast their lot against you. Your lack of self awareness is amazing.

Trump being a bad person or not, or an idiot, is irrelevant for a dozen reasons. He’s a con man that convinced a bunch of people to vote for him. But many, many did it because of you. You. Not him. It is an indisputable fact. Go become better read if you don’t believe that. But you just can’t possibly accept facts. Because you live in a fantasy world where it all has to be about how bad the other people are, because you can’t see your own responsibility for putting him in office.

Calling people racists, stupid ideas from AOC, unrealistic policies from Bernie, there a many many reasons why 40-45% of this country believes you are the morons.

If many people voted for a con man because of some mean liberals than those people are fucking morons. Again, stop blaming others for your personal choices. I thought we were done with this bullshit three years ago.

Bloomberg getting the nomination would be the giant glaring neon sign proving that systemic racism is indeed a real thing.

I thought Trump was that? Or are you saying since Bloomberg has been in politics that makes him part of they system?

I'm actually not clear on the meaning.

Bloomberg is the old system of quiet racism.  Let the cops beat down minorities.  Allow wealthy white people to push people of color out of their homes.  Quietly sweep it under the rug.  I will say that Bloomberg probably didn't put much thought into it from a race perspective.  He was more about class warfare and making NYC a playground for the rich.  It just so happened that the rich were disproportionately white and the poor were disproportionately minorities.

Trump is the new system of open racism.  Do all those things and be proud of doing them at the same time, and do them specifically because they injure "others".

That being said, Bloomberg is pragmatic.  He's walked back a lot of of his racist policies.  While doubting those walkbacks were heartfelt, I expect him to go another way if President.  He cares about optics while Trump doesn't.  He's also sincere on things like gun control.

to be fair, W had a moment of clarity on immigration that the republican congress squashed right away and never spoke of it again.

I m happy to have AOCs "dumb, naive ideas" in government. I don't agree with ost of her ideas but I am proud of her for offering them.

She is unusually vocal for an inexeperienced member of Congress.

Even if her ideas are "dumb and naive", they get us away from the usual ideas sponsored by your favorites corporate lobbyist. She is a different voice in a world of bought comformity.

Hopefully, her ideas spurn some experienced, good ideas from others, or even herself as she gets more experience, and we get some change in our country, for the better.

Hopefully her courage to take a seat in Congress encourages others, who are more qualified but wouldn't normally step into the cesspool, to do the same.

Regarding the topic at hand, racism, is there any other link between the most vitriolic targets of the Trump base: AOC, Obama, Omar? If so, I hope somebody will share as I am happy to hear it.

Very true.  Hate W all you want, but that immigration plan made a whole fuckton of sense, especially with the original numbers of Guest Worker permits involved.  Both the hard right and progressives worked to shut it down, even though it had bipartisan support.

I know it makes you feel good to lash out and call everyone a racist. It’s become an often used tool by many Democrats, and is done on this website by posters a dozen times a day or more.

But making those reckless charges over and over are one of the reasons we are stuck with Trump in the White House. People don’t like being wrongly called a racist any more than you would like being called a name. It only hurts your cause. You would have more success by rising above the juvenile behavior of Trump and the Republicans rather than matching it.
As others in this thread have point out, this is a stupid fucking argument. Don't make stupid fucking arguments.

And I didn't just imply that the people in this thread are racist, I also implied that they're sexist.

Again why did us Democrats lose. Keep making shitty arguments that have been so beaten over since Bush 2 that they have no meaning.

It's no different than the socialist comments. It's fucking stupid.

Again with the stupid fucking argument. On the one hand you have the right calling any policy that involves regulation socialism without any actual knowledge of the term. On the other hand you have the left calling people racist and sexist when they only elect white men to office, call women cunts and bitches, march with the Confederate flag, chant the Jews will not replace us, and tell American women who are brown to go back where they came from. It's totally the same thing, y'all!

What a fucking argument. We can all play this fucking stupid game.

While people talk about taking the means of production, and putting people in gulags, and how only the death of white straight men are the only way to make this country great.

See where this got us, nowhere.

And that’s why they call her dumb and naive. It’s a ruse and they who promote it haven’t defended their charge in the slightest. They just keep repeating it over and over, hoping enough idiots will come to believe it. Seems it’s worked on a few.

LOL

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez managed to get her goddaughter into a Bronx charter school, according to a Facebook Live video she recorded in 2017 — before she was a public figure.

“This area’s like a lot of where my family is from,” AOC says as she strolls along Hunts Point Avenue in the Bronx. “My goddaughter, I got her into a charter school like maybe a block or two down.”

What’s the scandal? Aren’t charter schools free and receive public funding in NY? Why does anyone care where a kid goes to school that isn’t AOC’s actual child, especially if that was before she won her election?

"Got her into the charter school" means took her down and filled out the paper work and signed the agreements the kid would do the HW and stay out of trouble.

SCANDAL!!!!

So she’s a hypocrite bc a child’s parents chose for their own kid to attend a charter school prior to her holding public office?  lolk. That fact doesn’t actually refute or discredit her public statements about education reform but let’s all engage in intellectual dishonesty for some sweet schadenfreude

Weren't there a bunch of articles referenced explaining how SHE wants charter schools eliminated because she thinks they are destroying public schools?

Unless I am missing the sarcasm, it's do as I say, not as I do, i.e., politics as usual.

while many democratic socialists oppose public charters, instead wanting to focus funding on the existing public school systems, AOC is not necessarily being hypocritcial, unless i see a source quoting her on this. she's said that much of america's school outcomes are tied to zip codes. she has also said that people are enticed to enroll their kids in charter schools when existing public school options are not satisfactory. she has advanced the positoin that when the public charter becomes more attractive than the existing public school system, then reform and funding is needed to fix the problem. i do not see that positoin as unreasonable.

though i'm not surprised dishonest conservatives need their dollop of alleged hypocrisy to slander their new bogeywoman, the freshman congresswoman from new york city.

here is the foxnews article highlighting her supposed hypocrisy:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/the-aoc-tapes-rep-says-she-got-goddaughter-into-bronx-charter-school

Quote

During a March 2019 town hall organized by Jackson Heights People for Public Schools, she had harsh words for New York City public schools — but also lauded public education as “one of the greatest gems of public good in the United States.” She warned that residents of the Bronx were now being “incentivized to enroll into a charter school.”

“The moment we start feeling that way is when we should start fighting to improve them,” Ocasio-Cortez said during the meeting, which was attended by a who’s who of anti-charter activists, including State Sen. Jessica Ramos, Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz and NYU professor Diane Ravitch.

During the same meeting, AOC conceded that her cousin’s children also attended charter schools, according to the socialist magazine Jacobin.

In another Facebook Live video from around the same time, Ocasio-Cortez posted footage of American Federation of Teachers boss Randi Weingarten rallying the troops against Education Secretary Betsy DeVos — a prominent charter advocate.

attacking betsy devos does not mean she opposed charter schools as an option. hell, she even already admitted this - it's not a secret that she has family members with kids in charter schools. she views that as symptomatic of an inherent problem. not everything is so starkly black and white. jesus, people, i know i was roundly mocked on the other board by the conservatives for daring to deploy the word "nuance," but fucking hell, people, get a grip.
