Texas has become the economic powerhouse that it is because we are a low tax, low regulation and low government services state. Those values define Texas. Likewise, America is defined by similar values. What AOC, Ilhan Omar and Bernie want are to radically transform and change the foundation of what our state and country are based upon.

You're gonna shit your pants when you find out how big socialist California's economy is.  Of course, I'm not sure if that counts since they have a small homogeneous population.

Dude, haven't you heard? California is just days from total and complete collapse. It's been that way for years.

Texas is not a low tax, low regulation state.  It's low tax for commercial interests, not for residents.

And we are more regulatory burdensome than most Texans could possible fathom.  Those voters like to repeat that line of bullshit because they don't own or operate anything, they're just sheepish employees who are told by their elected leadership that they work in a low-regulation industry.  It's bullshit.

Of course, I've only been hearing it for nearly 4 decades.  Any day now those southern red states are going to be screwed when California socialism crashes and they no longer have liberals' tax dollars propping them up.

You are referring the California the state that leads the nation in net migration in population leaving it for other states, the state with the most number of companies leaving it, the state with the largest percentage of people living in poverty, the state that is the most difficult to build new, affordable housing, etc as a result of progressive policies and high taxation. That state. How much better would California be doing if it was more like Texas in terms of taxes and government regulation. A shit ton better.

As averaged from 2013 to 2015, California had America’s 17th-highest poverty rate, 15 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. But, by a newer, more comprehensive Census accounting, California’s true poverty rate is an eye-popping 20.6 percent—the highest in the nation.

At least 30% of households in every part of California--and in some places 60%--can't afford local rents.

Interesting new experimental dataset that I hadn't been aware of called the "Supplemental Poverty Measure" that takes into account additional factors such as cost of living.

Table A-5 (page 26) lists the states by both the "official" measure as well as the SPM.

https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/publications/2018/demo/p60-265.pdf

If using the SPM, California's poverty rate is listed at 19.0% (moe 0.5) making it the state with the highest share of individuals living in poverty for a three-year average (2015-2017) while the official measure is only 13.4%.

For the curious, CA is followed by:

2) FL 18.1%

3) LA 17.7%

4) MS 15.9%

5) GA & AZ (tied) 15.6%

Texas is 14.7% & the US is 14.1%.

Thanks for introducing me to a new dataset, Icono. I see that they're also working on a new metro-level measure as well whose cost of living can vary greatly within states. I'll take my lumps on that one.

CA is rapidly losing their middle class  the effect is masked by the high number of immigration from high earmers(100k+ from other states, the rest are fleeing st a higher rate than anywhere in the country

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ocregister.com/2018/09/08/a-generation-plans-an-exodus-from-california/amp/

One of the perennial debates about migration, particularly in California, is the nature of the outmigration. The state’s boosters, and the administration itself, like to talk as if California is simply giving itself an enema — expelling its waste — while making itself an irresistible beacon to the “best and brightest.”

The reality, however, is more complicated than that. An analysis of IRS data from 2015-16, the latest available, shows that while roughly half those leaving the state made under $50,000 annually, half made above that. Roughly one in four made over $100,000 and another quarter earned a middle-class paycheck between $50,000 and $100,000. We also lose among the wealthiest segment, the people best able to withstand California’s costs, but by much smaller percentages.

The key issue for California, however, lies with the exodus of people around child-bearing years. The largest group leaving the state — some 28 percent — is 35 to 44, the prime ages for families. Another third come from those 26 to 34 and 45 to 54, also often the age of parents.

https://lao.ca.gov/laoecontax/article/detail/265

Migration among certain demographic groups also differs from the state’s general pattern. Although California has had net out-migration among most demographic groups, it has gained among those with higher incomes ($110,000 per year or more) and higher levels of education (graduate degrees). This can be seen in the three graphics below, which display migration between California and other states broken out by income, age, and education. Orange indicates net out-migration from California to the other state, while blue indicates net in-migration to California. Brighter colors indicate higher amounts of migration.

it becomes very clear the strategy of the Liberal Elites in CA.  They need the pyramid scheme of cheap illegal labor to keep subsidizing their middle class cleansing policies.

If you say "largest west coast states bordering the Pacific starting with a 'C' ",  those statements about California ARE true.  No need to liberal nit-pick the real truth.

So the middle class shrinking has nothing to with soaring corporate and shareholder profits, 30+ years of stagnant wages, and the systematic dismantling of workers rights, BUT those damned immigrants are the cause of ALL of society's problems?? How convenient that we can just blame a vulnerable group for all of our self inflicted wounds!

Reading comprehension is not your friend. Illegals are not the cause of the issue, but rather seen as a solution to the 30 year destruction of the middle class the democrat controlled state has enacted

Someone still has to do the minimum wage jobs, and Americans simply can’t afford to live there and preform those tasks.

They will sacrifice middle Class Americans to keep their elitist policies in place and preserve their standard of living.

California also ranks second to last in affordable housing. Just in front of Hawaii. But this will change when Hawaii gets their high speed train to replace air travel tourism.

You should probably address the fact that blue states in general fund red states, because conservatives are Federal tit-sucking lowlifes:

Quote

In 2015, for example, New Jersey got back only 74 cents in federal spending for every tax dollar its inhabitants sent to Washington, according to the Rockefeller Institute of Government. New York got back 81 cents on the dollar, Connecticut 82 cents and Massachusetts 83 cents.

But when you turn to the red states, it's the opposite. Mississippi received $2.13 for every tax dollar that its inhabitants sent to Washington. West Virginia received $2.07, Kentucky: $1.90 and South Carolina $1.71.

5 out of the top 10 for cities with the most homeless belong to California. New York is number 1.

https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/cities-with-the-most-homeless-people.html/

the truth is the the socialist movement leaders Hail from the states that are the worst offenders of all that they accuse conservatives of. They dropped the standard of living in their own states and want to blame someone else for their issues while trying to put on a carafe that they are a model for the rest of The country.

100k in Midwest or California dollars? It makes a difference.

My wife’s cousin is a high school grad and is an admin assistant at a tech company in Walnut Creek and makes $80k. She has two kids and scrapes by with a monthly deposit from grandma. Looking at an income amount with no reference she would appear solidly middle class. Take her out of California and she’s making $35K and probably on assistance.

Same with a lot of those 100k earners. They’re not making close to that when they leave. The real high middle class earners in CA are making well more than that.

And that has nothing to do with the high income earners immigrating to CA?  Or the desirability of location for non natural resource based businesses?

But wait.....so socialism is bad if you don’t like who receives the funds?  You should be proud of that fact, not trying to use it as a point against the Red states.

You should be all for social distribution as well. A simple solution would be to force corporations located in expensive cities to move to smaller ones to help spread the jobs and monies around. Spread out that tax burden. SF can make 3 of their largest companies relocate. This would greatly ease this housing situation for everyone else and add more tax receipts to the red states so they can do their share!

Soread the wealth!

So sweeping standardized policy and statements don’t seem like a great idea when comparing populations in the US.

And who’s responsibility is it for making the cost of living so high in those states?  Is it fair to subsidize those people because they pay red state taxes only to see them move away at retirement and enjoy the inflated salary related benefits  in a lower cost state.

Does McDonalds charge 9.99 for a happy meal to keep up with the inflation?

this selective socialism is so hard to keep track of.
