Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I was going with the numbers being thrown around by people in this thread as their thoughts, not her proposal. You could generate significant revenue by making adjustments to the top 1% without dipping into the middle. There are 1.4M returns in that range with an average AGI over $2M, the lowest AGI of around $480k, and tax collections of roughly 40%.

Wapost tosses some figures around:

The answer is no.  No, he didn't read.  No, he didn't understand a goddamned thing.  He lives in a world where all taxation is theft, and there is no commonwealth.  We're not dealing with a critical thinker here.

Right, the future concern would be it moving to the state and federal level. The current concern at that level is continuing to offer incentives to illegals to come here. If we are not going to build a wall, add boots, tunnel technology, etc then what are we going to do? Rights to vote, healthcare, school.......all of things allowed are incentives for more to come. There’s not a single solution, I just think is the wrong direction.

First, that isn't at all what you insinuated with your original post, and you know it.

Second, you have no evidence of an actual problem (the thing you lied about above). And no evidence that a wall would solve the hypothetical problem you believe exists. But sure, whatever, be a dick to be a dick. Pretty soon no one will want to live here, illegal or otherwise. It will just be you (and Trump) alone in the rubble saying "but there was time now!"

Incentives to illegals? That’s enticing enough for anybody! Hell, I’ll move there from Texas just to vote in that election!!!

Oh, just shut up.  School elections are not bound by voting laws.  California is not going to skirt national requirements for voter eligibility.

Do you people know just how fucking stupid you are?  Rhetorical question.

You are aware that illegal immigrants can't vote, right?  And whatever happened to Obama being the "deporter-in-chief"?  Apparently Democrats didn't feel like they needed all those votes of people (who can't even vote anyway) when they ran the executive branch.

This is naive, harmful, and untrue.

"We don't know how widespread this problem is because elections offices don't keep track of where non-citizens live," Pierrotti reports, "So we decided to do something that they'd never tried to do before: We found them on our own." The investigation began by examining state forms on which residents had declined jury duty by checking a box indicating that they weren't US citizens, and were therefore ineligible to serve. Pierrotti then cross-referenced those results with local voter rolls, identifying at least 94 people who were registered to vote in the state of Florida. Next, he visited some of these people at their homes, where they admitted that they weren't citizens and professed ignorance as to how they were registered to vote in the first place. But voting records confirmed that they'd exercised their "right" to vote that, as non-citizens, they do not actually possess. The NBC 2 team interviewed a number of these illegal voters on camera, including a Jamaican national who simply attested that he was a US citizen on a voter registration form, and -- voila! -- he joined the American electorate. It was a felony, but it was that easy. And if a news crew hadn't connected the dots, no one would have ever known.

"Don't I need to show you some proof of citizenship?" I asked. She replied "no."  I asked her how she could verify that I wasn’t lying. Sensing she might be on a slippery slope, she called over a supervisor from the Registrar's Office and told the woman of my concern.  The official told me they never checked citizenship status because I would be penalized if I lied. Really? So I asked her how she would verify my truthfulness, or those of the dozens of new voters being registered that day.  Defensively, she replied that they checked all registrations for accuracy at the Registrar's Office when they were turned in.

I called the Registrar Monday, and asked if they do indeed verify citizenship status.  I was told that they didn't unless someone made a specific complaint against an individual applicant.

Forward to our next local election, where the illegal alien presence and an unlawful day labor site were THE issues, I noticed that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in their purple tee shirts, and their local spinoffs were canvassing the town.  I followed them for awhile as they went to homes and neighborhoods where the illegal aliens concentrated, and watched them exit each home or apartment with a new handful of voter registrations.

Ten years later, nobody at the Registrar's Office is checking citizenship.

In San Diego County, the state’s second-largest court, 32,290 people were specifically removed from the juror pool between 1 January 2018 and 11 December 2018 for not being U.S. citizens.

This one is from Snopes. Now, let's say they you get jury duty once every five years. That would make more that 150k registered to vote, and that's just in San Diego County, which has 3.3 million people and is relatively conservative. The population of California is more than then times that. That would make 1.5 million in Cali alone. So, while my back of the envelope method should not be taken as authoritative, it should be seen as a legitimate first pass estimate.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/may/30/illegals-in-virginia-registered-vote-in-elections/

Quote

Ms. Erickson was one of more than 5,500 noncitizens who were registered to vote in Virginia this decade, and were only bumped from the rolls after they admitted to being ineligible. Some 1,852 of them even managed to cast ballots that were likely illegal, though undetected, the PILF, a conservative voter integrity group, said in its report.

Just as troubling, the PILF said, was Virginia’s efforts to try to hide the information from the public — a problem foundation President J. Christian Adams said began at the very top, with Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

PILF looked only at eight Virginia counties. There are 95 counties.

Noncitizens are most likely voting in the millions in every state in the country.

How could you read that well thought out, intricately researched, and not at all made up article on the "American Thinker" by William Campenni, a retired engineer, business owner, and Air Force fighter pilot, and come to any other conclusion? I mean, you can't honestly tell me that someone who thinks that the bulk of attendees at a Hispanic festival must be "either illegal alien day laborers or legal non-citizens" is biased or full of shit, can you?

That's fucking gold:

Curious about its presence at a festival where the bulk of the crowd was either illegal alien day laborers or legal non-citizens,

In case you were wondering whether the American "conservative" movement presumes that all hispanics in this country are illegals.....they do.  This is kind of our point, man.  It ain't about the status.  It's about using "concerns" about legal status to give cover to enmity of an entire ethnicity.  He's actually the perfect person for Texashammer to cite, and I'm glad he did so.  It gives oh-so much clarity to things.

33k illegal aliens identified in one year in San Diego County. By San Diego County. If you think San Diego County is lying, or if you think the State of Virginia is lying, or if you think the State of Florida is lying, you should go ask them why they're lying about tens of thousands of illegal aliens being registered to vote.

I can only give you the facts. I can't understand them for you.

Fair enough, but that's not the part I quoted. I did notice that part but the only relevant part was what I quoted, which is that they do not verify citizenship in any meaningful way.

Why don't you try addressing the facts and skip the ad hominem? I do agree, the view from your lofty moral perch is far superior to mine.

so it was about at the 80th page of this thread that she gave her first floor speech in the House.  that's some buzz.

i dont agree with some of her policies, but i like her youth and vigor and hope she can help get pelosi to not run for re-election.  it's time for the old guard to step down and get some young blood up in here.

The deal Pelosi  made to consolidate support for her bid as Speaker included her agreement to step down after no more than 4 years.
