Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

If you're one of the many American progressives cheering on the performance of your new political rock star, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, look around: Many of the people cheering with you are Republicans. Ocasio-Cortez's 14-point victory over 10-term incumbent Democrat Joe Crowley was certainly impressive. Her performance since then? Not so much. The GOP have branded her a gaffe machine, Democrats on Capitol Hillher urging her "to do things differently," and her stumbling media appearances have sparked references to the "P" word: "Palin."

Yes, it's that bad.

"Yes, it's the future of the Democratic Party — in the Bronx."  But if democratic socialism prevails in the short-term, it will be despite — not because of — the Ocasio-Cortez Effect.

These. She’s young and still ignorant of some things (I sure was at her age. And, confession, I still am - always learning).
But she’s intelligent and her motives seem to be on the right side of the ledger. That’s huge. Well, these days it is.

She is, I believe quite earnest in her beliefs.  What will be interesting is what DC does to her in 10-15 years.

The true believers are usually exiled and labeled as weirdos if they refuse to play ball.

Palin? Call me when she quits before her term ends or can’t name a newspaper or magazine that she reads and later claims it a gotcha interview.

What happened to her anyway?  She got awfully quiet during the latest rounds of MeToo & Trump shitshow?

I'm not on twitter nor watching her shows, but you couldn't escape her for a couple years and I literally didn't remember for the last six months that she was alive until just now

All of this.  Wish she hadn't been brought up.  I was blissfully ignorant of her continued existence.

Cajun, was Hillary fawned over before or after you would ride around with your friends looking for gay people to assault with baseball bats?

Good memory.

Yeah, the idiocy of being a teenager.  We shot the water tower of Texas Military Intstitute with a tracer round as well.  Guess you think that means I'm anti military.  Let's see, we also used to egg houses in Olmos Park.  Damn, I'm anti rich people!!!  Shot my cousin in the forehead with a bb gun during BB gun "wars".  Fuck, anti family.

Whoa!  You got me!!!!

What do ya think, about my HRC/AOC comments.  Just a mysoginitst or am is it Nazi/Fascist/Racist/White Privelege too?

Beating people with baseball bats because they are gay doesn't really get absolved through "idiocy of teenagers". It's very telling that you think it's in the same league as egging a house.

sure.  go ahead and try and explain away how policy rooted in "redistribution" of wealth, call it "socialism", "collectivism", "communism", "totalitarianism", whichever term you want to use matters little as they all result in the same outcome, is an example of how a society should be run.  Give us one example where the people ruled by such policies are thriving as a major power, and have economic and personal liberties.  It won't take you long in your search.  There isn't one.  But keep on believing that policy can work in some form and result in a higher standard of living for it's subjects despite zero examples in history.

conservatives should realize that the US is a mix of their dream of free enterprise and socialism.  Don't forget about government ownership of the police, fire, ems, roads, airports, seaports and schools - just to name a few items. None of these are in private hands.  If you went to public school, Pepper, you benefited from socialism

Shame on me for saying you had a good memory.

No one was beaten with a baseball bat.  Cars were egged, names were called, and at one point my idiot friend clay pulled out a big sword he had in the trunk when one dude chased us down & blocked the car.  It diffused the confrontation, but that was it for me.  I didn’t talk to him for a year after that.

You see, this is how the telephone game goes.  “I went to the game and had two hotdogs” becomes, “He killed two wiener dogs at a baseball field!!!”

Easy tiger

Somebody (a lot, actually) needs to learn a bit about US tax policy (until recently) and the views of the founding fathers.
It is utter ignorance, imo, to whine about policy rooted in "redistribution" of wealth and attempt to make the argument (apparently) that all such policy is the equivalent of socialism etc.

America was set up, among other things, to prevent dynasties and collection of power that was common in Europe. Hence, estate taxes, marginal tax rates (after the income tax was instituted, that is).

America thrived with estate taxes and higher (than now) marginal tax rates. That, my friend, is a redistribution of wealth.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

Hey man, I took your word that it was true (the "good memory" comment). I'm glad to hear it is not.

No, it’s not.  I was rushing to get the kid to school & responded too quickly.

I’ve only hit two things with a baseball bat-

baseballs

and a crazy possum who was attacking my dog.

No, you're conflating stories seven.  You want to believe because you're butthurt over my comments here.

I told my story exactly as I have here.  I also talked about doing a 5th Step over it (aa stuff) with several of the gay guys I sponsored.

In that there was a bit about a guy in high school named Victor who used to run through the park with a hat on that had a flashing light, like a police bubble gum machine from back in the day.  He would carry a bat and yell "Fag Patrol!  He was a senior, a big football stud (think Biff from Back to the Future), and we thought he was cool.

He wasn't and neither were we.

Victor never hit anyone either, he was just a jackass.

Can someone net out what Cajun's theme has been over the last few weeks?  I'm seeing he is engaged in some debates with some posters and I think Cajun's posts are always pretty good, but the arguments aren't grabbing me and seem a bit peripheral to the key and important debate of our time -- pointing out how much you hate Trump v. laughing at people who hate Trump.

cillizza is good at his job.

the problem is, his job is essentially to drive clicks. if you've noticed, since he joined cnn, the headlines have gone all click-baity. "here's how pelosi got over on trump." it's an invitation, not a headline. when you see him actually on tv, he's all puffery and full-on troll, essentially. he thinks he's driving analysis, but he's really driving the clown car.

the problem is, the clown car gets clicks.

I'll be sure to alert CBS that they are no longer a "source".

More like he just ran though the park yelling at night hoping to scare gay guys, carrying a big stick while wearing one of these...
