2025 NFL Draft

Houston needs to draft an interior OL at some point in the first two days of the draft (and probably also add a body in free agency), but I like the idea of drafting the highest upside DT on the board, which could be any of Derrick Harmon, Walter Nolen, Kenneth Grant, or Deone Walker.. or maybe even Alfred Collins

I'd like to draft another TE too, although the first round might be too rich for that. While Stover is promising, it's a long developmental curve position and we need to get Stroud a stable of good TEs to play with for the future

All 5 OL getting drafted in the same year would be pretty cool of that happens and Hayden Connor sneaks in.

You keep trying to sell us on Conner getting drafted. You do realize that, eventually, scouts and analysts are going to actually watch his film, right? In more than a handful of plays each game, the guy touches literally no one on the opposing side of the ball.

I'm not selling anyone on Conner getting drafted. I asked specifically "do yall think he gets drafted?", said "if he sneaks in" in the post you quoted and have him and Lole listed as "coin flips to get drafted, but definitely gone" and guessed 1 of the 2 get taken. Maybe it's zero or maybe it's both of them or maybe 1 and 1.  He's had a pretty good senior year based upon expectations going in and has improved a lot.  Is it enough to get drafted? I have no idea. But it's on the table I believe.  Maybe not and I'm an idiot.

My biggest overarching point on being bullish on guys getting drafted, and this proved out last year with Whitt and Robinson and the corner, is that good teams that finish in the top 5 have more guys taken than you might otherwise think due to a Halo effect, "culture", this guys a winner and other assorted stuff that becomes a tie breaker for guys at the ass end of the draft. Look at all the shitty Texas teams that guys like Poona Ford ended up going undrafted that should have been (roach is another) and compare that to the beneift of the doubt we got last time around.

Merely intimating that the guy could be drafted is a sell, to me, at least. Same for Lole. If either of those guys get drafted, you'll be able to knock me over with a feather. Frankly, I'm going to be surprised if either get a combine invite. Lole's medical records alone should prevent an invite.

This is bit surprising to me. I know DJ has the talent, but based on watching Texas play I can not imagine him getting drafted. I get taking fliers on talent at OT, but guard seems like a reach. Hayden is free agent. I could see him moving to center, if he is going to have any chance a the NFL.

That tracks because the Giants GM is due to be fired in the next year or 2.

I don’t see how Schoen keeps his job for next year. First, there is the awful Daniel Jones extension. Then letting Barkely walk to a rival club, even though Mara very much wanted to keep him, should be the last straw.

Mara had this thumb on the scale for the Jones extension

The top non-QBs are thought to be weaker than usual in the top five or so

Both can be true. Teams in the 20s look like they'll get a solid R1 prospect. Some past drafts have seen a dropoff in the mid-late teens

I wouldn't take Hunter in the top 10 without a solid plan of what you're going to do with him. Carter and Williams are both badass, although maybe we made the UGA guys great. Tet McMillan at 15 is a great pick

When did @Wulaw Horn start writing for Orangebloods?

So, Gerry said 12 nfl Draft picks this year and he sits down to pee. I set the OU at 12.5 and am taking over.
it’s really more about how many come out than how many are draftable quality when you are talking about the difference between 12 and 16. Does Taaffe, Golden, DJ Campbell, Guilbeaux come out or come back?
I suppose does Blue or Connor or Bolden sneak in the ass end of the 7th round matters too.

I think he’s got most of those guys going  a round or 2 too high, but the top 12 all seem very uncontroversial to me. It gets interesting from there if MT comes out- he’s pretty much guaranteed to be drafted. I’ve given up on Gavin Holmes preseason maybe but I guess hope springs eternal in some quarters.

Hamilton said 9 guys in first 3 rounds, 12 or 13 overall. Then he started counting and got to 14 or 15.
I think 9 of the top 100 is highly unlikely, personally.
Top 3 rounds:

Banks, Williams, Bond, Collins, Barron, Quinn (maybe), Helm (maybe- really close- if not top 100 then top 120 for sure).
I guess maybe they have those 7 plus Golden,  it I can’t even think of who the 9th would be.
I’d guess 6.

I think Palmer said Helm is a top fifty guy.

2025 NFL Draft: Mel Kiper makes big changes to Top 10 QB rankings ahead of CFP Semifinals

by:Nick Schultz•01/03/25

The College Football Playoff semifinals are set, meaning only four teams remain in the 12-team bracket. That means prospects around the country are ramping up their preparation for the 2025 NFL Draft, and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. made some big changes to his Top 10 QB rankings.

Kiper’s top two quarterbacks stayed the same from last week’s update. Colorado star Shedeur Sanders and Miami standout Cam Ward remain No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, after their respective bowl games. But there was plenty of movement the rest of the way, including one player who jumped up four spots to No. 3.

The evaluation process for the 2025 NFL Draft is going to pick up soon ahead of next month’s NFL Scouting Combine. Here’s where Kiper’s Top 10 QB rankings stand ahead of the CFP semifinals.

1. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

Throughout the year, the debate has been whether Shedeur Sanders would be the top quarterback on the board. Mel Kiper Jr. continues to project him in the top spot following Colorado’s Alamo Bowl loss to BYU.

Sanders completed an impressive 2024 season to close out his college career. He completed 74% of his passes – the best rate in the country – for 4,171 yards and 37 touchdowns, along with just seven interceptions, to help spark Colorado’s turnaround under his father, Deion Sanders.

2. Cam Ward, Miami

The other quarterback consistently discussed atop draft boards, Cam Ward increased his stock in a big way this season. He finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting as he led Miami’s high-powered offense.

The former Washington State quarterback put up monster numbers, throwing for 4,313 yards and an FBS-leading 39 touchdowns. He comes in as Mel Kiper Jr.’s No. 2-ranked quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, but is sure to be in the conversation for the top pick thanks to his ability to improvise.

3. Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss

The biggest mover in Mel Kiper Jr.’s rankings, Jaxson Dart is now the No. 3-ranked quarterback after coming in at No. 7 just a week ago. The Ole Miss standout completed his historic career in Oxford during Thursday’s Gator Bowl, and his stock is on the rise.

Dart finished his third year under Lane Kiffin on a high note. He set the program record for passing yards, and threw for 4,279 this season to boost his draft stock and create an interesting conversation for evaluators.

4. Jalen Milroe, Alabama

In his first year under Kalen DeBoer, Jalen Milroe had an up-and-down go at Alabama. His evaluation process will surely be one to watch considering his dual-threat ability, and Mel Kiper Jr. ranked him as his No. 4 quarterback in the draft.

Milroe threw for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns, along with 11 interceptions, but set a new career-high with 726 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground. That adds to the intrigue about how teams will assess his stock through the pre-draft process.

5. Carson Beck, Georgia

Perhaps the most interesting evaluation in the draft, Carson Beck started the year as the virtual consensus top quarterback prospect. A rollercoaster season and late injury meant he fell down draft boards, though, and added to the uncertainty around where he’d go after declaring.

Beck threw for 3,485 yards and a career-high 28 touchdowns, but his 12 interceptions led the SEC thanks to a tough stretch mid-season. To make his prospects even more interesting, he suffered a torn UCL in the SEC Championship that required surgery, although Georgia said he should be able to start throwing come spring.

6. Quinn Ewers, Texas

Quinn Ewers presents another intriguing case for evaluators. The Texas quarterback set a career-high with 29 touchdown passes in 13 games, but he also has 11 interceptions to his name amid an up-and-down year.

Ewers delivered when it mattered, though, in the Longhorns’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Arizona State. On 4th-and-13 in overtime, he threw the game-tying touchdown pass to Matthew Golden and proceeded to find Gunnar Helm for the game-winner in the second OT period to send Texas to the Cotton Bowl.

7. Will Howard, Ohio State

Ohio State found a new gear through the College Football Playoff, and Will Howard is a big reason why. He has been red-hot during the postseason and he appears at No. 7 in Mel Kiper Jr.’s Top 10 QB rankings after not making the cut last week.

Howard is in the midst of the best year of his college career after transferring from Kansas State, throwing for 3,498 yards and 32 touchdowns. His connection with true freshman Jeremiah Smith kickstarted the offense through the Buckeyes’ first two CFP games, setting up an exciting matchup against Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

8. Tyler Shough, Louisville

In his seventh year of college football – and only one at Louisville – Tyler Shough delivered the best numbers of his career. He also moved up to No. 8 in Mel Kiper’s Top 10 QB rankings this week amid the shakeup.

Shough threw for 3,149 yards and 23 yards, setting new career-highs in both categories. He previously spent three years at both Oregon and Texas Tech, but could see what lies ahead at the NFL level now that his college days are over.

9. Kurtis Rourke, Indiana

After a decorated career at Ohio, Kurtis Rourke opted to join Curt Cignetti at Indiana in 2024. That led him to a spot in the Top 10 in the Heisman Trophy voting and a College Football Playoff appearance amid the Hoosiers’ historic season.

Rourke threw for 3,042 yards and a career-high 29 touchdowns to help lead the IU offense into the CFP. He also quietly played with a partially torn ACL, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported, which shows his toughness that could make an impression on scouts ahead of the pre-draft process.

10. Riley Leonard, Notre Dame

Another true dual-threat, Riley Leonard has shown his ability to beat teams with both his arm and his legs. That especially proved true in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia when he had 170 total yards – 90 passing and 80 rushing.

Leonard’s legs are a big reason why he’s so dangerous as he totaled 831 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. But he also showed growth as a passer, completing 66.1% of his passes for 2,383 yards and 18 touchdowns – and he appeared in Mel Kiper Jr.’s Top 10 QB rankings as Notre Dame gets ready for the Orange Bowl.

I don’t have a strong opinion about this QB class other than it looks weak with a bunch of wildcards.

Nonetheless, I do find the continued elevation of Jalen Milroe to be perplexing. He just looks like a coach killer. If you’re ever dependent upon that guy to win games against comparable or better talent, good luck.

Last crack before the end of the season on guys who I think could get drafted.

should/be very surprised if not:

Quinn, Bond, Golden, Banks, Williams, Majors, Helm, Collins, Broughton, Sorrell, Barron, Makuba. Thats 12. I set the over under at 12.5. Predicting 11 from this group

maybe (either because might not come out or if come out maybe not drafted):

Taaffe, Campbell, Moore, Blue - give me 2 from this group (but hope it’s 0).  All 4 of these guys will make an nfl roster someday I believe- but 2025 gets a good head start if they are all back in Austin

probably not- but it only takes one:

Bolden, Connor, Gbenda, Holmes

guys who I’d be shocked if they left (and are eligible to leave) but I bet will play in the NFL someday: Burke, Guilbeau, Auburn (just kidding/ still pissed)

give me 1 from this group-

14 total- final guess before seeing who actually declares

Deadline is 15th if we lose- January 24th if we win.
