Soccer fans were apoplectic when Ben White turned down the England national team essentially because for him it felt like just more time at the office. Still an excellent professional player for Arsenal.

Jalon Walker at #5 overall is higher than I've seen anyone else list him. He's on the small side at 6'1, 240, and a lot of people have concerns if he can hold up at edge full time. I assume Jeremiah thinks he can in order to have him #5 overall. Walker can also be useful at off-ball LB, but he's not good enough to get #5 overall there. Someone like Flores could move him all over and make great use out of him, but top 5 guys usually have a clear position and don't need exotic scheming to be great.

Jeremiah has Golden as his #1 WR, #16 overall. TMac is #2 at #18 overall.

He has Barron at #11, down 3 spots from last ranking. Any pick in the top 15 would be a great outcome for Jahdae.

Banks is down to #31, but Jeremiah says he can stick at LT. Kind of a weird eval. Most of the time Banks drops it's due to evaluators thinking he's a G. I'm not sure I've seen anyone else say he can stick at LT and having him nearly that low.

I think the OZ teams could especially draft Banks in the teens (SF, Miami, Seattle, Atlanta). I know one person in the agent world thinks that he won't make it past Green Bay, but they're the biggest sticklers at positional measurables thresholds by rounds, and I'm not sure if he checks all their boxes. Minnesota really needs a tackle. Houston could do a minor trade up to get ahead of Green Bay and Minnesota for one of the tackles (Banks, Simmons, Conerly Jr), but I wouldn't want to trade one of their 3rd rounders to do so

Are you saying Minnesota needs tackles because of Darrisaw recovering from ACL injury?  Because Darrisaw and O'Neill are a great tackle duo.  I would say they need to improve their IOL.  They did have 2 big free agent signings on the inside though.  I think Minnesota goes defense with their pick.

As for Green Bay, I'm not sure.  I thought they had a good OL already but am not following their losses via free agency.

Banks going to Houston would be great for both sides.  I'm hoping as a Longhorn fan that he guys much earlier though.

Good stuff here on draft history by Howe.

Jeff Howe

Texas is expected to produce three first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, which kicks off in three weeks (Thursday, April 24).

Based on 10 mock drafts published within the last 10 days by ESPN.com, NFL.com and CBS Sports, the trio of offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., cornerback Jahdae Barron and wide receiver Matthew Golden will be among the first 32 players selected. The 1980 draft was the last time three Longhorns went in the first round when wide receiver Johnny “Lam” Jones went No. 2 overall to the New York Jets, the Los Angeles Rams made cornerback Johnnie Johnson the No. 17 overall pick and the Baltimore Colts took safety Derrick Hatchett with pick No. 24.

The consensus among the pundits is that Texas will accomplish something the program hasn’t done in 45 years. Nevertheless, there’s a wide range of predictions on where and when they’ll go.

Barron has the highest draft projection of any Longhorn, with ESPN’s Matt Miller mocking the Jim Thorpe Award winner No. 9 overall to the New Orleans Saints. Terry Joseph was hired away from Texas by head coach Kellen Moore to be the team’s defensive pass game coordinator, one of two former Longhorn defensive assistants who now coach for the Saints (Bo Davis was hired in February to be the team’s defensive line coach after one season at LSU) and could, in theory, advocate for Barron in the war room.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com and Pete Prisco of CBS Sports have Barron headed to the San Francisco 49ers (coached by lifetime Longhorn Kyle Shanahan) with the No. 11 pick. Eric Edholm of NFL.com and Josh Edwards of CBS Sports have the Arizona Cardinals taking Barron with the 16th pick.

At the same time, Field Yates and Mike Tannenbaum of ESPN have the Minnesota Vikings selecting Barron 24th overall.

That’s how things look for Banks, who Prisco predicts will go to the Chicago Bears, the owners of the 10th overall pick. The Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy winner is projected to be selected by the Miami Dolphins (No. 13 overall) in the mock drafts of Brooks and Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, with the Yates and Charles Davis (NFL.com) believing the Cardinals will take Banks with the 16th pick.

Houston is the most popular mock draft destination for Banks, a product of Humble Summer Creek. The Texans, who sent head coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio to Texas Pro Day on March 25, have the 25th pick and have a huge hole to fill up front after trading Pro Bowl tackle Laremy Tunsil to Washington.

Tannenbaum, Edholm and Edwards believe the team will tab Banks as a long-term option to protect their franchise quarterback, C.J. Stroud.

Golden solidified himself as a first-round pick after tearing up the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.29 40-yard dash. Edwards and NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein have Golden coming off the board to the Dallas Cowboys, who own the No. 12 pick.

The franchise hasn’t used a first-round pick on a Longhorn since taking Scott Appleton with the No. 4 overall pick in 1964 (Appleton was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he spurned the team and signed with the Houston Oilers, who picked him sixth overall in the AFL draft). Connor Williams’ selection as the No. 50 overall pick in 2018 is the earliest Dallas has drafted a Longhorn, so acquiring Golden to pair with CeeDee Lamb would make history.

He goes as late as No. 29 overall to Washington in Brooks’ mock draft, but six of the other eight mocks have Golden going between pick No. 16 (Cardinals) and pick No. 26 (Rams). Yates, Miller and Trapasso predict the Seattle Seahawks will use the No. 18 pick to take Golden, who could be a weapon from the jump for free agent acquisition Sam Darnold after trading DK Metcalf to the Steelers and releasing Tyler Lockett.

I just read a mock draft that said "Campbell’s underwhelming arm length became a big talking point at the combine, but he may have silenced the critics by stretching out to 33 inches at his pro day." He measured 32 and 5/8 at the combine.

So scouts feel better that his arms measured this much longer at pro day  -   _____

That's about 3/8 an inch on my monitor. Sometimes people overthink shit.

It’s crazy. Ewers’ draft stock may have been higher last year? There were so many top rated QBs last year-Williams, Penix, Nix, Daniels, McCarthy, Maye- that he decided to return, but is it possible he would have been drafted in a higher round last year?

On ESPN, Ben Solak (who??) has Quinn going in the 6th round to Da Boys.  I'm not sure I believe he will drop THAT far.

That guy is an idiot.  Direct quote:  "He has worrisome sprays of poor accuracy to all three levels of the field".

I mean, that's just not at all true.  Deep balls?  Yes.  Short and intermediate throws?  Pretty damn accurate and catchable.

However, Ewers has changed since then and was more of an anticipation and timing thrower in 2024. According to Pro Football Focus, his deep attempts were over five percent lower this past season than in the 2022 campaign.

Additionally, PFF charted the Texas product with a 38.2 completion percentage (21/55) and 637 yards on throws 20 or more yards past the line of scrimmage, and a 52.1 completion percentage (50/96) and 926 yards on attempts in the 10-19 yard range this past fall.

Raiders 2025 NFL Draft: Quinn Ewers’ film breakdown - Silver And Black Pride

He was good on short throws. He is great on screens. His throws on swing routes to RB are pretty amazing, typically hits them in stride and on that front shoulder. He did not have a good year hitting the intermediate throws (52%). Wish I could find last years, because that was an area I thought he excelled at in 2023. Sub 10 yards 222/294 or 75.5%..

There's a lot of herding and groupthink going on. For example, I was listening to NFL radio and they had an NFL draft analyst on there who said Ewers was terrible in the playoffs, but when pressed he couldn't remember who we even played. Great insight there! He's clearly just parroting what he read elsewhere and hadn't watched much tape of Ewers, if any.

Right.  LIke i know he has no flair on the deep ball...but the balls at the line to 15-20 yards he can hit those pretty perfectly.

Why do they keep doing this shit.  Not only should the cowboys NOT take a RB in the first at all(Jeanty maybe being the exception) they would be much better off with a RB in round 2 than trying to find a WR there.  Take the best WR on your board there or even trade down and do it.

Golden visited the Cowboys yesterday

Of course I'd love this pick.  I'd like any of the top 4 WR's honestly.  Tet is slow as shit, but catches everything and would probably be similar to what Dez was here(we could hope). Emeka looks like the most sure fire high floor WR in the draft.  Probably 10 years as a solid #2 type guy.  Burden has some burst and elusiveness.

I'm biased by Golden, but his route running is superb, his ball tracking is great, he's shown the obvious knack for showing up huge in big games, and catching bad balls. And while he probably doesn't actually have 4.3 speed on the field he's MUCH faster than anyone else the cowboys have(other than turpin), and they could use that infusion of speed

He played as well, or better, than every QB he faced. Klubenik was the only one that I think was better.

Clemson he played a good game and his interception was due to the ball going through receivers hands but Klub did outplay him.

Arizona State he almost cost us the game with the dumbest fucking duck throw of all time, but he made up for it in OT. He started off hot in the 1st quarter then basically didn't do much until a drive in second half then disappeared again until OT. I'd argue that he passed better than Leavitt but overall did not play as well considering Leavitt's ability to extend plays and move chains.

Ohio St drives look like this:

7 plays 39 yards, punt
6 plays 27 yards, punt
4 plays -11 yards(10 yard sack and fumbled but we recovered), punt
5 plays 15 yards, punt
5 plays 16 yards, punt
7 plays 59 yards, TD(18 yard pass to Blue)
2 plays 23 yards, halftime
4 plays 13 yards, punt
12 plays 67 yards, TD(26 yard pass to Blue)
3 plays 5 yards, punt
10 plays 58 yards, Fumble returned for touchdown
3 plays 6 yards, interception.

Go get a fucking hobby.  Not this one.

Quinn nearly costing us the Arizona St game isn't being contrarian, that is objectively a fact. We all watched the games, we know he disappeared vs Arizona St, we know he didn't do much vs Ohio St outside of 2 drives. Those are objectively true. He didn't play some herculean games in the playoffs. I wouldn't say he played bad but he didn't play great either which is the story of his career inconsistency and disappearing at times which is why he's projected mid rounds and not near the top of the draft.

So try to keep up:  the discussion is about the claim that he played "terrible" in the playoffs.  Try to be less of a douche.  Good luck.

Disappearing for most of 2 out of 3 games isn't playing great. now the word "terrible" is probably a stretch but he was bad in stretches of those two games. Either way those scouts/draft honks aren't entirely wrong on their analysis.

Draft stock is more a media thing than a scout thing. Yeah, it does move some during the college season. But with real scouts, not that much unless something crazy happens in the combine or workouts.

But for the most part, stock is bullshit. Teams and scouts pretty much know what they like, they aren't sharing a lot. Scouts that have the same kind of dramatic shifts in rankigs are either not real scouts, or they are shitty scouts. Now every blogger is a draft expert, so the perception stuff moves more dramatically to the public eye.

Ewers is Ewers. He was never a sure first rounder, but maybe somebody that could develop into one. He didn't, and most every legit scout knew that by November.
