Dane Brugler did a full 7 round mock draft, which is a ridiculous exercise, but so is all of this, so whatever. Here's where he has our guys:

12. Matthew Golden (Dallas)

24. Jahdae Barron (Minnesota)

27. Kelvin Banks (Baltimore)

66. Alfred Collins (Kansas City)

82. Quinn Ewers (Seattle)

88. Gunnar Helm (Jacksonville)

116. Vernon Broughton (Miami)

124. Barryn Sorrell (Green Bay)

141. Cam Williams (Tennessee)

145. Andrew Mukuba (NY Jets)

187. Jaydon Blue (Minnesota)

239. Hayden Conner (Dallas)

Connor drafted and Majors not is the first I've ever seen that 2fer.

I used to think that until Anthony Richardson got media hyped into a 4th overall pick. I thought that was just agent hype and was blown away when it actually happened. I don’t understand the fall for Banks so far and I hope it doesn’t happen but if the Texans benefit from it then I guess it all works out in the end.

NFL teams talking themselves into a guy who is a career 54% passer as a top 10 pick because he can throw it far and run fast is one of the most hilarious and predictable outcomes. Richardson was just a flashier Tyrone Swoopes. The Colts deserve every bit of shit they get into eternity for this pick.

A lot of GMs fall for the combine heroes every year without fail.  And ignore the legit ballers who don't have the right "measurables".

Nah don't' feel bad, he'll get much more money, endorsements being in Dallas. And regardless of what the idiots feel about Dak, he makes good WR's look better.  Next to Lamb he'll thrive.

They won't win SB's with that Front Office and defensive holes of course...but they offense will be pretty fun.  And worst case he'll parlay that into a bigger contract on another team.

Can someone walk me through Travis Hunter's draft stock?  Does his versatility actually bring a lot of value?  I assume he's not actually going to play two positions, at least not 2X the snaps.

I get the idea that he's a "free" backup WR/CB on the roster (whichever isn't his main role), but that doesn't really move the needle all that much for me.

If he were just a WR, would his projected draft position be as high?  What if he were just a CB?

Came to post the same.

As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I feel sorry for anyone who goes to work for JJones.

Here's Dane Brugler's write up on him. The TL;DR is that he's viewed as both a 1st round-worthy CB AND WR. Whatever you get from him on the other side of the ball (probably not a ton other than emergency situations, as you point out) is just a bonus.

Spoiler

A two-year starter at Colorado, Hunter was a rare two-way player for head coach Deion Sanders, lining up as an outside wide receiver and inside/outside cornerback (also played on field goal block coverages). He played more than 1,000 snaps in back-to-back seasons, including 1,552 in 2024 (753 on offense, 776 on defense, 23 on special teams). He led Colorado last season in both receiving (96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns) and coverage production (15 passes defended, four interceptions), which was enough to win him the Heisman Trophy. He also became the first player in the 135-year history of the Walter Camp All-America Team to be named to the first team on both offense and defense.

Hunter has an impressive mix of explosiveness, length and reaction skills, which allows him to be productive as both a pass catcher and cover man. Though he is a top-tier athlete, his ability to play both ways not only shows his stamina but also his work ethic and mental commitment to prepare/understand offense and defense. Learning how to balance his athletic instincts while also trusting his technique will be his focus once he reaches the NFL. Overall, Hunter has the twitchy, skilled talent and competitive mentality to be an impact wide receiver and/or cornerback at the next level. NFL teams are split on his role — and on the possibility of Hunter playing both ways, because of durability concerns. But he is both CB1 and WR1 in this class and will give his next coaching staff exciting options.

Spoiler

Strengths

  1. Sinewy body type with good height and long arms
  2. Electric athlete with dynamic change of direction and loose movements
  3. Rangy player who covers a lot of ground with long strides
  4. Elite ball instincts and adjustment/high-point skills on both sides of ball
  5. Above-average awareness along sideline; limits big plays (allowed just two catches of 20 yards or more in 2024)
  6. Frequently makes first man miss after catch
  7. More scrappy than powerful but doesn’t shy away from getting physical
  8. Explodes from depth to avoid blocks and make stops at line
  9. Loves to mix things up but doesn’t go too far (zero coverage penalties in 2024)
  10. Technical know-how improved each season (cornerbacks coach past three seasons was 10-year NFL veteran Kevin Mathis)
  11. Impressive mental acuity to understand playbook and weekly game plan at two starting positions (and on special teams)
  12. Committed to conditioning — stresses recovery time to keep body at peak levels
  13. Described as loyal, grounded and comfortable in his own skin
  14. His coaches say he wants to be pushed and doesn’t stray from goals
  15. Positive personal feedback (NFL scout: “After that Colorado State safety was getting death threats (for a late hit on Hunter in 2023), Travis went out of his way to show no ill-will and smooth over the situation. Character-revealing move.”)

Weaknesses

  1. Lean-muscled and doesn’t have ideal mass or limb definition
  2. Average play strength will be more noticeable versus NFL-level athletes
  3. Technical side of his game is still catching up to his athletic gifts (showed clear improvements each year)
  4. Always looking to bait in coverage, which leads to undisciplined movements and tendencies
  5. Flagged for three unsportsmanlike penalties in 2024 (mostly for excessive celebrating)
  6. Played half his usual number of snaps vs. Kansas State and Arizona (Oct. 2024) because of shoulder injury; missed three games as sophomore because of lacerated liver resulting from a late hit against Colorado State (Sept. 2023); right ankle injury held him out five games as high school senior (Oct. 2021) and required offseason surgery; aggravated that injury in second game of freshman year at Jackson State (Sept. 2022) and missed five games

Most have him rated as the #1 WR in the class and think he’s a potential pro-bowler at either spot. Seems like most are settling in on him being primarily a WR and getting some DB play, but I guess it depends on which team gets him.

He costs half as much as 2 good players.

I'd be willing to bet he will cost roughly the same as any good player on a per-play basis.  I suspect any "value" is in his ability to serve as a backup, although even that would probably poach his main position should he be called into service.

The dude played 2700 snaps in 2 seasons and has been very vocal about wanting to play both ways in the NFL or he won't sign with the team. Now his career may be shortened and he may decide after a few seasons that he's just gonna play one side, but on his rookie deal I bet this calculus works out.

Maybe, but 1350 snaps in the Pac 12 & Big 12 is a little different than 1350 snaps in the NFL.  We'll see.  It will definitely be an interesting experiment.

I agree with your skepticism, but what imma typed is currently correct. They were talking about it this morning on XM 84. He's consistently told all teams that if they're not planning on playing him both ways, a lot, then they shouldn't draft him. Apparently, many folks around the NFL think that the Browns are okay with that and plan on drafting him at their early slot in the 1st.

Put all of the Deion/CU hype shit aside and the guy is a straight-up baller. Everyone mocks taking workout warriors over guys who have great film - this dude is both and he has the film at two positions. He’s a legit top-5 pick in any draft.

My guess is that once he starts playing against NFL talent he’ll back down off of his desire to play consistently two ways, but if you play him on offense every down and not o special teams at all, why the hell would you not roll him out there for 15-20 snaps a game on D in nickel/dime packages?

Why would you waste his energy on defense? The rules are slanted to help out the offense. Let him try to do something there.

DJ mentions that every year there's one player that he's way off on compared to most of who the talks to in the league, and because of that he has to reevaluate his opinion a bit on that player, and this year it's Banks. Says there's a lot of teams who have him as OL1, and he could go as high as #6

This is a bit of vindication of everyone on Texas boards asking "how the fuck does Banks keep dropping down on these boards?"

I think a major part of it is people just watching the two Georgia games rather than the entire three year body of work

I was at a wedding in Denver a couple weeks ago.  One of the other guests is a decent acquaintence of mine who happens to be a Brown's scout. He got to make the wedding a business trip since CU's pro day was the same weekend. He said they're primarily interested in him as a WR.

I think whoever gets TH will play him immediately at WR and coach him up on route running/timing aspects. The DB part of him will be used in special packages, where they can use his athletic ability on the field.

Going from a WR on offense straight to DB, after a possession change, I don’t really see that initially.

I’m assuming the same. He had a lot of talent at Texas don’t think he could’ve transferred to a better place.

Who cares not our problem anymore lol

He definitely shouldn't have come back, he would have gone higher last year.

What place would’ve been better than Texas?  Ohio st?  Oh wait he was already there.   He got to play in a prestige offense under a very well respected coach.   Contrary to what a few people will tell you , he played with quite a bit of talent as well.

I think Quinn might have done better transferring to a team with a more simplified, one read offense. Sark's offense is very complex and he seemed to have trouble processing. Wouldn't prepare him for the pros any better except maybe building back his confidence.

Either way, it seems clear he left a lot of money on the table foregoing his last year of college eligibility

Yeah. He should’ve came out last year when he still was viewed as high talent and potential, and may have been given benefit of the doubt due to injuries. The more he played in college and put on tape, the more “he is who he is.” If he transferred for 2025 and had another good but not great year, he’d land himself in 6th round 2026 territory.

yeah, this is what y’all do. you spend years crying like children every time someone is critical of your precious 5 star qb, then at the end of the day when he’s the reason we don’t win two titles and when his film and body of work are terrible, you don’t admit you were wrong- not only about quinn, but wrong for being giant pricks to anyone who dared call it like it was about your precious 5 star qb- you just pull this shit and high five each other like the children you are. way to go guys. you spend years lashing out at people for having a differing and ultimately correct opinion, and then you just pretend it never happened and keep talking shit anyway (remind you of any fat, orange, golf enthusiasts?). way to go guys. y’all are just the best. you’re what makes this forum great (again).

Yeah, that's a great example of what Warner talks about.

tl;dw:

1. He has great speed and strength, but not "athleticism" as Warner defines it; Kurt defines it as being able to use your body to make throws in difficult situations.

2. He is "not a natural thrower." He uses his arm totally instead of using his body, and throws bullets when he needs to throw with touch. (Contrast with Ewers, who outside of footwork issues, is very much a natural thrower, throws very catchable balls, etc.) End result is that he's inaccurate; even when he makes the right read, his throws are off-target.

3. He doesn't process beyond his first read very often. And when he does do everything correctly, point #2 keeps him from making the throw.

Only an idiot would draft him over Ewers.

Bro I know it's en vouge to shit on Dak every where but off the top of my head Randle Cobb came to Dallas on a very cheap contract, played one year here with Dak and thanks to that he got a nice big deal the next year.

Dalton got a huge deal for him in Houston thanks to what Dak did with him.

Amari hasn't looked nearly as good since he left Dallas.

Cedric Wilson got a nice big deal after what he did in Dallas thanks to being a security blanket for Dak.

You can say he chokes. He'll never win a big game, or whatever other crap you want. But to say he hasn't made WR's look better is a complete lie.  Not EVERY WR has taken a jump, but some guys just suck...
