I think that Houston tries to avoid drafting Longhorns from Houston. (D’Onta Forman being an exception and an adventure.)

I am a huge fan of Matthew Golden’s and would like seeing him go to either Texas NFL team, but if the Texans pass and he ends up with the Rams, I will be okay with that as well.

Sanders is predicted to plummet all the way to the Steelers towards the end of the first. I remember before the combine and pro days he was predicted to be #1 or #2 off the board. Banks, Golden and Barron will all hear their names called in the first round. I'm curious to see where Collins and Broughton end up. Those two were junkyard dogs on that DL, staying the system payed huge dividends for both of them in the end they both had a solid 2024 season.

This has been a brutal QB class. If you go back to September, Beck was considered to be the first pick at one point. Quinn was top 10 at one point. Miller Moss and Nussmeier were in the 1st round briefly. This QB class is like a bad reality show. It more about who didnt get voted off the island, than who had a great season.

1) I said before the season that there is no way that I would draft Shedeur. Perhaps Tomlin won’t receive the venom that nearly all other head coaches would receive from Deion, but I think that Quinn & Shedeur have similar potential.

2) I’m interested to see where Golden, Helm, Alfred Collins, and Mukuba go.

3) “Paid”, not “payed”()… at least in American English.

Yeah, it's a woefully bad QB crop especially compared to last season.

Tomlin has been as close to being bullet proof as any NFL could possibly be with 17 years under his belt.  During that time he has dealt with more than a few headcases off the field and Pittsburgh might actually be a good market for the Sanders family traveling circus.

Hell,  the Steelers currently have who at quarterback? Mason Rudolph, Skyler Thompson, and ?

Roll the damn dice and if it blows up it might be the perfect time to reset at HC and turn over the roster with Watt and Heyward getting near the end of their time in the NFL.

Besides, who wouldn't want to see Myles Garrett get to chase Sanders twice a year with the way Shedeur hold onto the ball.

Why would any team risk a first round pick on that mess?

The same reason why the Cowboys drafted Rod Hill in the first round, Cleveland drafted Manziel, Indy drafted Richardson a few years back, etc...... maybe the team thinks they see something no one else does, maybe they think they can be the team to put the player in the best situation to maximize their talent, or maybe they feel the need to take the gamble to fill a hole in their roster.

As noted, the Steelers have fucking Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson as their quarterbacks and while we know what their NFL floor is we also know what their ceiling is and it isn't much higher.  Sanders might have a much lower floor, he might even implode everything at Pittsburgh, but he also could be better and if it doesn't work then it is time to make a complete change.

Remember that Sanders at quarterback is going to be cheaper than any free agent quarterback and if you are the Steelers and need money elsewhere why tie money up in shitty free agents who aren't going to get you where you want to go as an organization.

What you just described is exactly what they did with Kenny Pickett and it just ended up with them wasting a first round pick instead of drafting the best player available.

I generally like Schrager, but I don't know as a draft dude. I feel like this mock is either going to show he's way more connected than I thought, or he's way less credible than I thought. I dunno...

Posted

I looked at five mocks whose info/process I respect (DJ, Allbright, Brugler, Schrager, Band), and listed out on how many of those mocks the following players missed the first round in.. this might give a good idea who might not go tonight

Luther Burden- 5

Mason Taylor- 4

Will Johnson- 3
James Pearce- 3

Mike Green- 2
Nick Emmanwori- 2
Walter Nolen- 2
Donovan Jackson- 2
TreVeyon Henderson- 2
Derrick Harmon- 2
Donovan Ezeiruaku- 2

Josh Simmons- 1
Emeka Egbuka- 1
Shedeur Sanders- 1
Josh Conerly- 1
Jihaad Campbell- 1
Maxwell Hairston- 1

An example of the variance in this draft is Walter Nolen. Brugler and Schrager have him going 11th, Allbright 17th, and Band and DJ falling out of the first

DJ, Brugler, and Schrager have Dart going tonight, while Allbright and Band don't

Browns going to luck into a HOF guy.  Joe Thomas will have some company in 15-20 years.  I can't wait to see who picks Sanders.  What a shit show he will be in the NFL.

Between Shedeur & Quinn:

1) Which one ends with more career passing yards?

2) Which one has a longer NFL career?

Giants won’t because Daboll and Schein have to win this year and sanders won’t be noticeably better than Russ.

New Orleans makes sense to me. Domed stadium so arm strength isn’t a huge factor.  Carr on the way out. My only guess is they’re going “awful for Arch” tanking

everyone is saying Pittsburgh but sanders doesn’t seem like a Tomlin kind of guy.  Also Sanders isn’t mobile nor does he have a strong arm

Yes, they and how many other NFL teams have found themselves in the cycle of burning through picks to try to find a competent quarterback?

The numbers are staggering in how many bad quarterbacks have been drafted in the first round and yet we see teams repeat the process again and again and again and why?

If your ultimate goal is to play for a title you have to have a quarterback who can have success in your system.

So how do you find that guy?  The track record is there for playing for a title and outside of Brady and Purdy the quarterbacks who have played in that game have come primarily from the first round and a large part are the first part of the first round. Hell, even the "retread" guys like Flacco were high draft picks.  Foles was a 3rd round pick.

The reality is that there is one hole you can scheme around in the current NFL and this is why we see teams continually reach for quarterbacks.

I'd say Shedeur on yards considering he's going to be drafted to start games.  Ewers will be a development pick.  Quinn on years because If Shedeur busts out, I don't see him grinding out in a backup role.

Yeah, he averaged something like 12 throws per game in that Wing T offense.  He got almost no attention; hence, Incarnate Word.

What a terrible offense.  His story kinda tells you that.

Wing T and Slot T is beautiful offense, eat shit.

Was it most prevalent in the 80s/90s in Texas?

The time period in which few Texas high school QBs went on to be good college QBs and even fewer to the NFL.  Some have said QB is the most important position.  So, let’s run an offense that limits the QB.

Just cause the Marlin Bulldogs ran roughshod over you with it does not mean it was a beautiful offense.

The story I heard was that he attended an IW camp and caught the eye of staff out of the "scrub" group.  Ended up playing there and following one of his coaches to Washington State.

Probably the most sure fire bet this draft is that Philly will kill it.

I saw a mock on Youtube or ESPN, forgot which one. They had Walter Nolen falling to Philly. The comment was "of course Walter Nolan falls into the lap of Philly".

My theory on QBs drafted high -- you want them to be elite or you want them to be really shitty.  The worst is one that just kind of teases you a bit but is mediocre and ties up your depth chart for 5+ years.  Give me a Jamarcus Russell over a David Carr any day.  You move on quickly when it's a clear bust.

I'm calling it right now - Shedeur falls, the Cowboys pay a kings' ransom to Philly for #32 and pick him, and Jerry crows about how he got "top-10 talent at number 32".

Signed, a battered Cowboys fan.

I definitely agree that finding a franchise QB is a crap shoot. I think bottoming out for a top pick or trading up for somebody you are really high on is the better move.
