Blastfurnace 2024

Recommended Posts

Looking likely that tomorrow and/or Sunday will be hottest day of the rest of 2024. 96 in Houston. 100 in Austin. Gonna be 95 or above through next Wednesday or so, but things should get a little nicer towards next weekend.

Extended stretch of warm, dry, and sunny ahead. Second Summer has begun.

Im convinced every time someone claims the summer is over on our annual blast furnace thread, it just tacks on two more weeks of summer. Wait until the highs are consistently in the 60/70's before opening up your cockholster and spouting off with this bullshit.

Was hanging out with some friends last night in their backyard, having a Sunday night drink.  It felt pretty nice... at least the bookends (morning/evening) are tolerable.  Middle of the day sucks.

Yeah. Hopped in the pool around 6:30 yesterday evening once the backyard was fully shaded. Felt pretty damn good. Water temp 88 and there was a decent breeze. Would have been a really pleasant evening to grill out if I didn't have other dinner plans.

It's the weather equivalent of "no...that stripper really likes me!"

Fake fall is the rise of the aggy coaster after the big Jerry World come from behind win over Arkansas before the crash and burn.

And yet people that have lived here for decades still fall for "false fall" every year.

The first September cool front typically lasts about 60 hours and then is promptly followed by at least 2 weeks where it feels like mid-August again. It's so predictable.

Hot as shit this week, with temps peaking on Friday, when Austin may bump up against 100 again and Houston will be a toasty 95. Looks like the fever finally breaks a week from today.

I’ve been sitting on the porch drinking bourbon and watching the lunar eclipse.  It’s been a very nice evening  here in The Woodlands. It’s not cool, but I’m still wearing my work clothes and not even sweating. This would not be possible a few weeks ago.

Nasty out there today. Walked out of the gym at 8 this morning and it felt like the heat index was already pushing 90. Dashboard was reading 100 most of the way into work before settling at 95.

Several days of triple digit heat indices ahead before temps throttle down a few degrees starting Sunday/Monday.

SoCal will be in the 90s next week.

Dude, every time you mention the weather in SoCal, I feel compelled to point out that it still drops down to the low 60's when the sun is down. Unless you're talking about Palm Springs or something.

We would kill to have "heat waves" where the high is 93 (with low humidity) and the low is 62.

I’m trying to empathize and say it ain’t only Texas!!

Overall, it was a pretty mild summer compared to last year's misery, but it looks like the 2024 BlastFurnace was just resting its starters until the final drive of the game.

SCW mentioned today that this past week's heat wave is the longest and strongest ever recorded this late into the year. Today marks 7 straight days with highs of 95 or above. In the past 140 years of Houston weather records, there's never been longer than a 5 day stretch of 95+ after the 2nd week of September. 98 yesterday and Wednesday were new Record Highs for 9/18 and 9/19 for the weather station at IAH. Today probably a new record as well.

Quite possible we make it to 9 straight. Official forecast highs of 94 tomorrow and Sunday, but lately the recorded highs have typically been 1-2 degrees above the forecast.

Looks like slight relief starting Monday and there should be noticeable improvement by Thursday.

Time to escape to the stars.

One or two more hot swampy days to cap off this unprecedented heat wave, and then things start getting a little more reasonable. Light at the end of the tunnel. I think I'm more excited about the lows dropping to low 70's than the highs dropping to low 90's. The low in Houston has been 77 or 78 every day since the 13th. It's gross even early in the morning and late at night.

Not in Irvine where I live.  Upper 70s low 80s.  Hottest day will be Monday topping out at a sweltering 84 degrees.  But, yeah of course it gets hot in the deserts and the inland empire (Riverside and San Bernardino).

It's officially Fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Autumnal Equinox occurred about 2 hours ago.

Change in the weather pattern ahead. Looks like clouds today should keep us from extending the streak of 95+. Noticeably nicer mornings and evenings on tap starting Wed/Thu with dewpoints in the 50's. Still gonna be quite warm in the afternoons, but not oppressive, featuring lower humidity.

Houston area looks like we should get a least a little rain to start the week. No such luck for Central Texas.

Our forecast here in aggy north has some mid 60's for lows this week.

Got an unexpected round of showers this evening, which was nice, but a side effect was that it kicked the humidity into high gear. Getting close to 9 pm and it's 83 with a heat index of 90. I will not be sad to see evening like this go anytime soon.

Looks like 2 more Muggy AF days with before this next front makes its way to Houston late Wednesday. I'm counting down the hours at this point.

Official high of 95 at IAH yesterday, so the streak made it to 10. Gonna be a nail biter to see if reaches 11 today. All depends on if we end up getting some afternoon showers or not. It's disgusting out there this morning.
