The production quality looks a little Syfy Network to me, but I hope it’s good.

Counterpoint:  The Expanse.  SYFY did a fantastic job, really really good given the scale and world building on that one.

I finally got around to watching Dune 2.  I was not surprised at how disappointed I was in it.  I doubt if I will even bother if there is another.  I watched the first episode of Prophecy and was intrigued enough to give it a chance.

Wait what? I loved both Dune movies, but Dune 2 blew the first one out of the water...one of the best Sci Fi movies in a very long time.

Sometimes they really go to balls to the walls with production and really spare no expense.

And sometimes they don't.

Just depends on the show/property.

That’s because he’s pre sardaukar and Salusa Secundus hasn’t been turned into a wasteland yet

I'm not sure this is true, and it seems unclear to me.

In the books, the Battle of Corrin, which is what leads to the establishment of house Corrino and the imperium, has nothing to do with the Butlerian Jihad (the war with the thinking machines). In fact, it all happens in the WAKE of the Jihad, decades later, and it's a political conflict. It seems that, in the show, they've made the Battle of Corrin be the ultimate battle against the machines that ends the Jihad.

I could be wrong, but I believe the Sardaukar would have already existed either way, not necessarily as the empire's standing army, but definitely as an existing military force.

Not entirely sure the writers knew they only had 6 episodes bc this was a lot of nothing burger

I don't think I agree. I thought that the flashback scenes were great, especially Tula's. Really helps flesh out their characters and motivations. I really enjoyed that episode.

Spoiler

Spoilering because duh:

Also, the revelation that an AI is behind the Bene Gesserit's breeding program is kind of a bombshell for Dune lore.
