the texas version of gdpr signed by wheels 18 jun 23 goes in to effect 1 july

per blacklab it goes here

likely to start the usual shitstorm:

"the TDPSA does not apply to state government entities, nonprofits, HIPAA-covered entities and business associates, higher educational institutions (public or private), utility service providers, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act-regulated entities and data. The TDPSA also does not apply to certain classes of data including health records and health related data, scientific research data, consumer credit-reporting data, personal motor vehicle records, insurance data, data regulated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act or federal Farm Credit Act, and employment-related information"

surprised the telcos and bigtech not exempt

When you either get to a computer or sober up could you edit this out of its present Spy vs. Spy format?

(Just kidding . . . sort of. No idea of what you're talking about.  NJ = functional state government)

Two things that stand out to me.

1. Enforcement is up to the Texas A.G. and it doesn't require an oversight agency. *laughs in Paxton corruption*

2. I am a little perplexed by the exemption for utilities and power gen companies. I believe there are some FERC regulations but I am unsure if FERC regulations are applicable to Texas utilities running on ERCOT. The last time I was involved with ERCOT they pissed on FERC because Texas has it's own independent grid.
