Who leaves their family to take a job?  Creep.

Would you want to raise your family in and around college station? Sure he'll take their money to coach baseball, but draws the line at allowing his kids anywhere near that cult of aggy.

Honestly I feel the opposite. Don’t get me wrong I want Schloss but that’s a ridiculous contract and I hope the terms are much more in line with the market. Would rather let a&m hand out the Jimbo contracts.

I intentionally stay dark on these things. It's not as fun for me to not be part of the rampant speculation. I guess the only spoiler I have is I know pretty solidly who is full of shit and who isn't based on sources not info.

There's been at least 3 posts of different dollar figures, all from people seemingly who are confident in their info. I've seen 2 with 10yrs/32m and another with 10yrs/36m. That's the whole "varied bits." Now whether or not we should be giving a 10yr contract is up for debate but it seems it's all coming together.

Would def be wild.  More than double his current pay.  Vitello is going to get a big raise, but no one has crossed the $2m club yet (Corbin is at $1.9m)

This is standard college fan operating procedure when to comes to coaching rumors. That the only way their coach leaves is with a ridiculous contract/number. I'd expect those terms to be completely made up.

I don’t think Skip would take the job “in a heartbeat” since he’s well aware of what that clownshow is all about, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to make him the highest paid coach in the country. That’s the kind of impulsive, irrational decision making they are known for, so I would fully expect it. Then again, if it is Schloss, then you would have to assume they were already unable to counter our offer. So maybe not as much money, but another fully guaranteed contract? I don’t know. I just know I’d hate to see Skip subjected to a future in CS.

I grew up in the neighborhood of WTA&M (WTSU at the time) and my son now goes to UC-Merced and frankly A&M looks better than both of those.

UC Merced is particularly weird.

Texas has been pretty good at hiding coaching salaries also.  They're almost never in the headlines.  News of Sark's extension didn't even have numbers in it.

That's part of the fun. That contract is absurd and incongruent with the way CDC usually structures deals. I do know the reason the job is attractive to top candidates that just played in the MCWS in Omaha is how put together the NIL machine is here. Everywhere else it's a lot of promises and a scramble to get shit done. At Texas it's a budget with a process, it's dramatically different than almost anywhere else in the country from the feedback we've collectively seen and received.

now is a good time to remind everyone here to put money into Texas One Fund if you haven't already

I can't imagine we would go 10 years.  5 maybe 6 but I would assume it would take $2.5M+.

The numbers floated for the past 10+ days have ranged from $30-$36M and up to 10 years.

Could that be the case? Maybe. Could a game of telephone have been played? I think that is more likely the case.

The contract likely isn’t that long and the numbers likely include the packages for assistants and supporting staff. Commitments in facilities upgrades and NIL are not a part of these numbers but will be a part of the overall deal, supposedly.

If it really is a 10 year contract, count me in the group that think that is overkill. I’m hoping the truth is a smaller period of time and the numbers include the whole team. Reset the market for each level, fine, but is there is a HC in CBB making over $2M yet? Fine, go to $2.5M and then go bonkers with the rest too. Build a moat without looking desperate or ridiculous.

Very likely this. That said this is almost certainly Kirk Bohl’s first scoop of any significance in his very long career. Astonishing really.

Yes, football carries a lot of weight.  But Texas can enter the SEC and assert itself by winning the vast majority of H2H matchups next year as SEC conference foes and start relegating aggy to #2 in the state, as is their natural place.

HC and Assistants seem pretty much done, waiting for confirmation...

In the meantime - about the portaleers. Are they able to switch if they've only announced, or "committed" or whatever the terminology is, but not signed any documents yet?

You'd think there have to be some who are going to wish they could re-direct their paths.

I don't think you see many portal flips in baseball.

Apparently, some guys on the current team have been trying to recruit portal guys for the last few weeks. There are a few undecided guys I have my eyes on.

We aren’t known for being reckless with contracts. If it’s in that ballpark, that’d almost assuredly be for the entire staff, not just the HC. That could also be the total possible if all performance incentives are met. I don’t have a fucking clue, but I refuse to believe CDC would do something completely out of character like that, even considering all the non-tangible aspects of poaching him from the sheepfuckers. One way or the other, guess we’ll know soon enough if all this is just silly internet gossip.

One thing I do believe, without having heard it anywhere other than internet chatter from people I know nothing about, is that Pierce leaked it to Bowels as a final fuck you from both of them.

Corbin was at 1.9 in 2022. Multiple other sources have him at ~$2.3 or ~$2.4 for this last season, evidently he made $2.5 in 2021?

how much are assistants making these days - would say ~$2.75m for a head coach plus another say ~800k for assistants make sense (if we are talking $3.6m) - looks like Steve Rodriguez was making 375k, so i think that's reasonable for the pool?

FCB has an article from 2022 showing how much some guys were making on the different sports if someone has a horns247 sub and wants to share: https://247sports.com/college/texas/longformarticle/texas-longhorns-football-salaries-behind-texas-athletics-directors-cup-success-chris-del-conte-steve-sarkisian-189776921/

Again, I say take it all with a grain of salt, but allegedly there are serious talents aware of what’s about to go down and will be portaling if it is announced. Sounds too good to be true, but random people with usually good info keep saying it. It’s fun to think about, regardless.

With the certitude coming from OTF, my view, which isn’t informed, just guessing, is that they have been given details for their article, which will be posted the second the UT press release drops. I don’t think they’d be talking the way they have without some concrete data to work with, as Bobby and Gerry are simply too seasoned and too experienced (ie., they’ve been burned enough) to be doing so otherwise.

So, that considered, I guess a 10 year deal may damned well be real.

Steve Rodriguez made 375k? The dude basically stole money from us.

I thought he coached offense no? They weren’t the most consistent but put together a solid year at the plate for the team. Is he a shit recruiter or something? Did he have the Tommy Harmon disease where he couldn’t leave the Austin City limits if not headed to a game?

I don't really like the Jimbo comparison.

The reason the Jimbo contract was so dumb is because Jimbo was coming off a 5-6 season and everyone around the program said it was a disaster. Schloss was 1 game away from a title this year.

I don't mind ridiculous contracts if the coach is still producing and winning at a high level. That was the problem with Jimbo. It was clear that Jimbo was already on a spiral as a head coach prior to aggy and they paid him like the best coach in the country.

Exactly, it's apples to oranges.  Sure, Schloss has never won the title, but he's built 3 separate programs in his career and left them all in great shape for the future provided he's our guy.

He's been to the CWS 7 times in 23 years and it's more like 22 since the COVID year was canceled.  He's won 11 conference titles and 10 tournament titles.  The guy is as proven as can be.

Yup it's as apples to oranges as it can get.

Schloss took over an aggy program that went 9-21 in the SEC the year before (last in their division) and made the CWS in his first season (and first in their division). Then national runner up in year 3.

Longley did pretty much everything offensively and was the recruiting coordinator. Rodriguez spot-recruited some, but, from all accounts, didn't do much.

Seems like info is leaking out in a controlled manner. It sounds like the decision to get rid of Pierce was made behind closed doors when the conflicts with his staff passed a certain point. That would mean there was more than enough time to back channel with Schloss, hammer out a framework, come to general terms, and create safe lines of communication long before the playoffs even started.

I think that’s the part many are likely discounting. The ags playoff run likely isn’t even that germane to the situation.

Bobby and Gerry from OTF said DP used NIL money to make non-scholarship and partial-scholarship players whole as if they had a full scholarship, instead of going after big portal and/or recruiting targets with NIL money. Bad idea!

I'm no fan of 10 year deals, but that might depend on the buyout. If it's fully guaranteed, but not outrageous for baseball, well, ok. Additionally, I'm not too worried about Schloss looking to pad his retirement. Dude would be at a blue blood, with a good 15-20 years of managing left in him, and he hasn't won shit yet. Dude wants to go on a run and have his name mentioned up there with the best of all time, well, you've got a window. Get to work.
