if you are off and standing in the 6 it's not a fucking goal

So now just standing in the box means it’s not a goal? We really are trying harder and harder to take goals away then.

This. I don't question that Maignan can't and doesn't make the save regardless of the player. But you just can't be in that position and not expect that call to be made.

look, i'm pulling for the dutch, i don't know what else to say, this is not a new rule, or a new way of interpreting the rule with var

it's the way this shit has been called for the 4 decades i've been watching

maybe there was a mystical era in the deep past when that goal would have stood

He’s not blocking Maignan from seeing the ball. To me that’s the point. Maignan had clear sight and made no attempt at a save because the ball was already by him.
Calling shit like that offsides is just another example of looking for reasons to disallow goals.

I don’t think it’s been consistently called until the last 3-4 years.

The rule doesn’t say you can’t be in the six. The rule is about effecting the keeper. The keeper wasn’t impacted. He wasn’t blocked.
And they haven’t always made that call. It’s been a really new addition actually.

that call was tough. i think the biggest problem was that he made no effort to even look like he was trying to get out of the play. he just stood there like a jabroni and was in the way which sucks because it was a beautiful strike that was not save-able.  and i say that as the board's les bleus représentant officiel.

We need an overhead angle to see how far away the Dutch guy was.

Booooooo!!!!!

That would be helpful.  From the side angle, I think I agree with the call.  But I'm not particularly passionate about it; it's arguable either way.

Does the 6-yard box have any meaning when the ball is in play?  I think that's the philosophical question at issue here.

I think under the black letter of the rule book, but answer is "no."  But I think the reality has generally been quite different, with the keeper getting a lot more latitude in the six-yard box than he would, say, at the outer edge of the area.

Just standing that close to the keeper is going to affect him.  In the back of his mind he is thinking about whether the player is going to shoot or pass to the guy in the box.

I've always understood that to be the reasoning behind the rule anyway.

My take, because Dumfries was standing parallel to Maignan it was probably the right call. If he was ahead or behind Maignan’s “diving line” it should have been given.

This. That's how he was "involved" in the play. This isn't about blocking vision of the ball, it was about being in a position to block a dive - whether it happened or not.

Just go read this:

There is little to no dissent that this was the right call.

If he doesn’t touch the ball, it shouldn’t be offsides.

FOX is in the entertainment business.

If those three letters are at the start of a channel, their goal is to draw eyes and in turn advertising dollars.

That is their business model across all platforms and it has shown to be highly successful.

They employ Urban Meyer and all of his baggage on Big Noon Saturday, after all.

I’m not sure why Reddit should be our source of truth. There’s plenty of dissent from plenty of people.

It is ALWAYS intentional.

When the announcers say “It didn’t appear to be intentional.” I always repeat “It was absolutely fucking intentional!”

Perhaps the announcers are instructed to say that, but ones who used to play know that it’s always intentional and I’m fairly certain that every announcer who didn’t play knows as well.

Pimping?

Drug dealing?

Roofie aided theft?*

I have cousins who live in Vegas, another friend lived there for a decade or so because his wife was working international relations with WYNN (went to Macau frequently because she speaks Portuguese), but I would not want to live there.

*a friend got roofied at a casino in New Orleans by a couple and they took him to an ATM where he withdrew his limit and then went on a shopping spree at a Walmart where he spent over $1,000 and he didn’t remember any of it.
Supposedly there is some drug that leaves you completely susceptible to agreeing with whatever another person suggests.

He speaks fluent Chinese.  It’s his first language.  It will be a contractor type job.  If that makes sense.

FuboTV having 5 exclusives is bs. I want to watch some Georgia football Pawl!

I wonder if the fubo servers are going to crash within moments of this game ending, with the mass exodus of fans from their free trials?
