After these many years, it always makes me smile and gives me a good feeling inside knowing that millions of Noles had their hearts ripped out and are crying.

Yeah that’s a strike. Oh well.

Welcome to the Sad Old Man Club, BO&W.

Meetings are held every other Thursday at the Howard Johnson with dinner served at 4.  Some of us will also gather every morning for coffee at DQ and then venture over to Home Depot to browse the aisles.

Remember to position yourself in the aisle to block it enough so people have to ask you to move over.  Then place hand to ear and loudly say WHAT?  Bonus points if they are in a hurry.

The Virginia-FSU game should be interesting.

I thought all four of these teams looked pretty damn good, although the nightcap had some bad fielding. Tenn got called what, three errors? I would've put it at least four or five. That first base was playing like he had a visit from Lefty and Fingers with pics of his grandma at the Assisted Living center and an offer he couldn't refuse.

Onward and upward, should be some good ones tomorrow.

Daly is the poster child for Texas development …

Why did other guys develop the last 2 years then? It sucks he regressed but it happens in baseball. Tulo couldn’t fix him in 2022 and Longley couldn’t fix him last year.

There was a lot of off-field crap going on with Daly too. His dad was insane and apparently treated people like garbage associated with the program (players, coaches, admin, etc.). Daly needed a reset somewhere else.

Hookem, how come this Pooser fellow started out in the pen before they realized he should be their #1 going into the CWS?

Just giving you a bit of hell.  I don’t think it’s terribly uncommon.  Lights come on at different times.  Sometimes they go out.

Can anyone explain how these teams have very pedestrian to poor hitters in their lineups and yet still made it this far?

Kentucky has been living right all year. Won a TON of close games. Team ERA just below 5.00 and a .287 team batting average. They seem to win in the margins.

NC State is even more glaring. Hit .290 as a team and has a team ERA of 6.09.

Daly was a frosh AA, hit .300 and played decent defense.  Two years of “development” with miserable results and he hit the portal for UK.  Back to .300 at UK and a chance to win something Pierce will never sniff.

Here’s the thing though, others developed besides him. Melendez was solid in 2021 then historic in 2022. Stehly went apeshit in 2022. Faltine, Ardoin, Campbell, Hodo all took steps forward in their time here. I have no idea what happened with Daly but yeah. There’s plenty of things to knock Pierce on. Developing hitters isn’t necessarily one of them.

I stalked UK quite a bit this year out of curiosity.  They seem to play aggressively but aren’t afraid to bunt a guy over.  offensively they look to take advantage of opportunities.  2nd and 3rd and less than two outs - just get the guy home kind of approach.  Pitching-wise they seem to compete well and generally themselves a chance to win.

What about Nixon? He played amazing his first year, slumped his second year then what? It’s hilarious that because one player has a good year away from Texas, you want to point to it as Pierce sucks at development. There are plenty of players under Pierce that have developed year to year. Pierce wasn’t Belicheck developing guys but he wasn’t terrible either. Also, you last point makes no sense when Daly has been to the WS 3 times, 2 of which were under Pierce.

Wind blowing in pretty strong today.  Unless it changes, doubt many HRs in NCSt vs Kentucky

Line drive shot to left got under wind for UK HR

Seems like there may now be more of a crosswind that helps push the ball towards left field and may be helping some fly balls.
