Violation of the Flag Code. Free speech supersedes (Flag Code has no enforcement mechanism it’s a vanity law) but still a technical violation and intense disrespect to the Flag.

Washpo has a recent article about the expected overhaul of govt with Trump.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/06/08/russ-vought-trump-second-term-radical-constitutional/

while Trump personally would be a problem in the WH, the real damage will be done with the flunkies placed in power throughout the administration. They will fire or chase off good, hardworking people, and then celebrate as they reform all levels of govt.

This is the biggest problem, not that it isn't all a problem.  Right now, here in Atlanta, we are feeling the direct effect of a Trump appointed idiot (Louis De Joy) taking over the USPS.  For now, it's a relatively minor problem for us, but it does has serious implications.  For example, my wife gets medication (nothing life threatening or anything serious) thru the VA pharmacy, it's all massively delayed.  We thank our lucky stars it's nothing serious, so we are lucky, but imagine if it were for serious stuff, which you have to know is happening to people.

Now imagine more basic civil services fall into the hands of people that more or less have made it their mission in life to destroy them.  These are the types of consequences that we are facing, destruction of things like the National Weather Service.   Basically, a bunch of things like this we take for granted being destroyed.

So while the big picture certainly needs to be human rights violations and the destruction of due process these people are after, their intentions are well beyond that.

That's the thing. Fascists won't make government better or even try. They just want to hurt their enemies.

That is their goal.   Break, don't fix anything with the government and then point at it and say, see the government is broken!

Then replace the public service with a for profit version, run by one of their cronies.

I'm not sure who once told me this, I should have paid more attention, but it was something to the effect of "always be leery of people that have nothing but grievance in their realm, typically their motives are far from pure."

actually it's stay in power and accumulate more power and more wealth. destroying enemies is critical to that endgame, and whatever happens to governmental services, who gives a shit. actually, tax the people, eliminate the services, more money for fascist leaders.

The bolded should be the official motto of the current day Republican party.  No real platform other than whining.

It's why Trump is basically a god to them.  No greater whiner has ever existed.

This is worth a read and seems pertinent to this thread.  Its about the deportation of over a million Mexican Americans during the Great Depression in the name of jobs for Americans.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/history/2024/02/21/herbert-hoover-deportation-immigration-trump/

The president who deported 1 million Mexican Americans nearly a century ago

On Feb. 26, 1931, a sunny Sunday in Los Angeles, hundreds gathered for an afternoon of relaxation in La Placita park in the heart of the city’s Mexican community.

Suddenly, a large group of plainclothes officers armed with guns and batons entered the park. Two officers were posted at each entrance to La Placita so that no one could leave. Dozens of flatbed trucks circled the park’s perimeter.

Officers rounded up all the people with darker skin, said Joseph Dunn, a former Democratic state senator from California, who researched this forgotten episode of U.S. history.

Panic swept through the crowd. About 400 park patrons were lined up and asked to show proof of legal entry and citizenship of the United States.

The Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans who could not produce proper documentation were detained. Then, some were put on the trucks and sent to the city’s main railroad station, Dunn said. Once there, they were ordered onto previously chartered trains and taken deep into Mexico, according to Dunn.

The raid came at the height of the Great Depression and on the heels of President Herbert Hoover’s announcement of a national program of “American jobs for real Americans” — code words for “‘getting rid of Mexicans,’ who weren’t considered ‘real’ Americans,” said Dunn, whose staff spent three years delving into federal, state and local records in the United States and Mexico to document this little-known tragedy of the Latino experience in the United States.

Spoiler

The program, implemented by Hoover’s secretary of labor, William Doak, included passing local laws forbidding government employment of anyone of Mexican descent, even legal permanent residents and U.S. citizens. Major companies, including Ford, U.S. Steel and the Southern Pacific Railroad, colluded with the government by telling Mexicans they would be better off with their own people, laying off thousands.

The Hoover administration began reimbursing localities for enacting his program.

Los Angeles authorities had planned the raid at La Placita as a scare tactic to motivate the population to return to their motherland, even though many of them were born in the United States.

The Los Angeles City Council sent memos to the county’s board of supervisors advising it to stop the illegal deportations, Dunn said. “The board got tired of the memos and wrote back to the city council, ‘This isn’t about constitutional validity. It’s about the color of their skin,’ ” said Dunn, who has boxes of documents detailing such events.

Fear swept Mexican communities nationwide throughout the early 1930s as local law enforcement rounded up people in parks, hospitals, markets and social clubs, crammed them onto chartered trains and deposited them across the border.

“Around the country, Mexicans were scapegoated for the bad economy and became victims of cruel dilemmas,” said Francisco Balderrama, professor emeritus of history and Chicano studies at California State University at Los Angeles and a co-author of “Decade of Betrayal: Mexican Repatriation in the 1930s,” a book based on oral histories and archival research.

In addition to claiming that Mexican deportations would create more jobs, officials also said that Mexicans were overwhelming welfare offices and draining charities set up for the needy during a time of economic calamity. Yet, during the early years of the Depression, Mexicans “comprised less than 10 percent of the relief recipients across the country,” according to “Decade of Betrayal.”

Nearly a century later, former president Donald Trump and his allies are discussing the possibility of militarized mass deportations if he is elected again in November.

Dunn said Hoover’s approach was echoed in Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy and Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids during his presidency, which had “strains of what occurred to Mexicans in the 1930s.”

But the difference between the two presidents’ approaches to deportations lies in Hoover’s use of the term “repatriation,” Balderrama said. The word suggests a voluntary return to your birthplace, and Mexican repatriation was viewed as a humanitarian gesture by the administration and the public, Dunn said.

“In my investigation, I found that what was called repatriation was actually a coverup and a case of unconstitutional deportation because the majority of Mexicans who were deported were born and raised in the United States,” Dunn said.

Dunn’s research shows that about 1.8 million Mexicans were deported during the 1930s. Of that number, about 60 percent were U.S. citizens.

Elena Herrada, an activist who has compiled oral histories of Mexicans who were deported, said her father was a toddler when he and his family were forced to go to Mexico in 1930.

Herrada’s aunt said the trip to Mexico was dangerous. “Everybody knew Mexicans were leaving, so robberies on the roads were common,” Herrada said.

As was the case for many Mexicans who were coerced into leaving, the government gave the Herrada family provisions of food for three days. But the trip took 30 days because they couldn’t drive at night. They would hide their car, which was loaded with possessions, after sunset to avoid being robbed.

For children, most of whom were born in the United States, the trip and relocation to Mexico was especially traumatizing. Leaving the only country they’d known to go to an unfamiliar, rural and poor place where no one spoke English left a mark on Christine Valenciana’s mother, Emilia Castañeda.

Valenciana, associate professor emeritus at California State University at Fullerton, said her mother wasn’t used to not having indoor plumbing, was ostracized at school in Mexico for not speaking Spanish, and suffered from a lack of medical and dental care.

“My mother never got a proper education,” Valenciana said. “She lived in Mexico for nine miserable years.”

Finally, when Emilia turned 17, her godmother found her birth certificate, which was needed to reenter the United States, and sent her money to return. Emilia had always considered Los Angeles her home and was eager to go back. But she wasn’t able to resume her schooling because her English had faded over the years.

With so many Mexicans and Mexican Americans forced to leave the country, there were no voices at the time protesting this mass removal, Balderrama said. Trade unions and other groups were all in favor of saving jobs for Whites in the United States.

The famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera, who was in the United States painting his “Detroit Industry Frescos” during the early 1930s, helped raise money for deportees and worked to obtain humane treatment for compatriots from welfare authorities, according to “Decade of Betrayal.” But, like many, he was sold on the idea that repatriation was a positive action instead of a violent disruption with lifelong effects.

“At least today we can say things have gotten better in terms of opposition to immigration policies,” Balderrama said.

“But I can see us slipping down this same path with Trump’s approach,” said Dunn. “Democracy is fragile.”

The deportations continued well into the 1930s, even after Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt took office in January 1933. Roosevelt never officially revoked the “American jobs for real Americans” campaign, but by 1933 it was being carried out solely by local governments that acted on their own and his administration did nothing to stop them.

“It just faded away by the end of the 1930s and then World War II brought jobs back,” so the scapegoating of Mexicans eased up, Dunn said.

In 2005, Dunn put forward legislation in the California Capitol to apologize for the government’s treatment of Mexicans during the Depression. The Apology Act became official on Jan. 1, 2006, expressing regret for the illegal deportations. The law also included installing a memorial where the raid on La Placita took place in Los Angeles. In 2013, California also passed a law requiring that this lost history be taught in the state’s public schools.

“We all know about the internment of 145,000 Japanese during World War II,” Dunn said. “But 1.8 million Mexican deportees dwarfs that size, and most people know nothing about this topic.”

Dunn said the Apology Act was mostly symbolic. “But it’s still something,” he said. “Now no one can say it never happened.”

A version of this story was published on Aug. 13, 2018.

I had heard of it before, but it's definitely getting more attention today.  Was today the official release or something?  I saw some articles that the D's have launched a task force to dig into it and expose it for the fascism that it is.  Members of the task force includes Ted Lieu and Jamie Raskin so the beatdowns should be pretty entertaining.

This is 100% their goal and plan.  Stephen Miller has said so in no uncertain terms.  FFS, the Trump admin tried to challenge the citizenship of US citizens born in US border town hospitals during a certain timeframe (my US citizen father falls within that group).  They intend to disregard the citizenship of my father and thousands like him, and deport them.  They intend to round up and deport people not because of their legal status, but because of their ethnic status.  When a racist fascist tells you who they are and what they intend to do, you should believe them.

Will you vote for or against a party and plan that intends to victimize my family?  If you intend to do so, tell me to my face, so that I can know that you are my enemy, and that I should dedicate similar effort to destroying your life and family.  Do it, you gutless cowards.  Tell me.

It sure seems like the world is willingly, gleefully steaming full speed ahead toward another world war over fascism.

This has always been an issue in America since Day 1. People seem to have a basic instinct to fear of others. And by people I mean assholes.

i could potentially understand dislike of immigrants if they truly were overwhelming the job that you have. If you were the American citizen who worked as a day laborer on home building, you might have a legit beef that many immigrant workers are taking your job or bringing down wages. But it makes very little sense when the white collar worker is so hostile to immigrants. If anything it allows them to buy more for less.

Half this goddamned country used to be Mexico, so yeah, there's still tons of Americans of Mexican descent all over the place. My family history is Mexicans from just north of the Rio Grande, so like my dad says, we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us, so stop complaining you fucking assholes.

The coming fascist theocracy has been a growing threat for decades … once the Christian Puritan Evangelicals, Fundamentalists, and Creationists began taking over the GOP with Reagan. Presidents Bush 1 and 2  contributed mightily with Supreme Court justices (Thomas, Roberts, Alito), denying facts, blatant lying, war crimes, along with W’s “faith-based” policies. Trump only made it obvious.

Now the fascist theocracy is 100% crystal clear. Yet, it is treated in almost all the news media, especially the prestige media, as if is a mere legit policy difference with “Republicans” and Democrats. The US news media should be blaring in giant headlines: "A TRUMP VICTORY MEANS A VIOLENT FASCIST THEOCRACY"

Yet, nothing like that is happening … or will ever happen … even as the trains are jam packed and rolling toward the Rio Grande.

The media have played their role in normalizing fascism and theocracy — out of historical ignorance, American exceptionalism, for fear of pissing off Christian America and losing readers/viewers.

Truth be damned and no matter the insanity, Christian America will never be seriously challenged by the media or any institution. And that will be the ultimate demise of democracy. Count on it.
