Chili’s is fantastic and I appreciate that they recent went back to their roots and ditched the wacky menu items.

Chips+salsa is like crack, burgers and fries are on point and the beers are always frosty.

Every time I've ever eaten at Chili's I feel sick afterwards, like my body is telling me that what I just ate wasn't real food.

I hope your husband took good care of you

back in the day we'd take turns ordering a skillet queso for the table.  it was a great place to hang out for a couple hours at a time.  that's probably why they hate high school kids.

Yanks up in NY like to put sausage gravy on their CFS, Chili's near our house was the only place we could find it with cream gravy only.  Of course, since they found out why we came there they have  discontinued the CFS on their menu.   Fuckers.

Chili's is an offender of the see through wet chips... when it's a good batch though, I can hammer through queso and salsa. I'm parched for a few days after due to the salt

Anybody mention Pizza Hut yet? I see lots of other businesses operating inside the distinctive buildings that are abandoned Pizza Huts, and it always surprises me when I see an actual Pizza Hut. The last time I ate in one was the week Michael Jackson died, I don't hate his music, and I don't hate Pizza Hut, but the combo of non-stop Michael Jackson music plus the rubbery Pizza Hut thingadoodle was too much.

So you hate fried chicken?  You think naked skinless grilled chicken is superior?  Lulz.

Do you drench your fried chicken in sauce?

Who said anything about skinless? Chicken wings shouldn't be breaded. Ideally they should be deep fried with the skin on, covered in Buffalo sauce, and served with a side of blue cheese dressing. And they shouldn't be too big. The wing is just a delivery vehicle for the sauce. Every bite should reach to the bone.

Hooters sucks. Their hotel-casino in Vegas is the ultimate in sore thumb doesn't-belong-here pitifulness.

Pizza Hut was awesome back in the day. Their pan pizza crust was buttery and a crunchy golden brown. Their gradual descent into suckitude began in the early 80's when they replaced their pizza ovens with a conveyor belt oven. It's been a long, slow accumulation of little sacrifices of quality in favor of convenience and reduced cost. Death by a thousand cuts.

I always liked the thousand island dressing on their salad bar. And their croutons.

Grew up with a Hut just down the street from my house, wife recently ordered  one from PH last week, just had that craving I guess.  I miss Godfather's, hit up the one on Wm. Cannon/Manchaca during my Church's days a lot, they had Donkey Kong also.

So many of you guys live in one of the all-time great cities for food of all kinds and you're drawn in by the salsa at Chili's.  That's incredible to me.  Oh wait, they have cold beer...unheard of in the modern Texas era.  Literally a hundred restaurants within the Austin city limits with great chips and salsa and cold beer and you guys fawn over Chili's.  Makes perfect sense.  You probably bitched when Wal Mart/Home Depot pushed out the local Mom n' Pop hardware store in your town growing up.  'Cause great plywood at Home Depot.

Lotsa hipsters think it’s an all time great. We invented the taco and shit, didn’t you hear?

The truth is...I’ll put chili’s chips and salsa up against most anyone’s. Add a cold beer, and it’s a fine choice. Not a Michelin Star, but fuck - chips and salsa and a beer, and you’re bitching about it.

I enjoyed me some Pizza Hut back in my teens. Ours had a big chunky shit-talking waitress who would put my smartass Beavis self right in my place. My poor mom adored her for that, and looking back, it was necessary for the public good.

There was a better pizza place on the other side of the river, but we never went there. This was right after my parents' divorce. Looking back, if it was like every other restaurant on that side of the river, my dad had probably banged one or more of the waitresses.

I have an old hs friend that delivered pizzas for Pizza Hut in NW Austin for years. It was insane how busy he was. I would go meet him for beers at puckers when he got off and it was like he just ran a marathon. I think their shit sucks but clearly a lot of people with the means to afford something else think it’s good.

Not bitching about it.  Just a really weird thing to head out of your house for.  You're voluntarily going to a shitty chain with bad service, no eye candy, worse food, and no soul to eat something (chips and salsa) and drink something (cold beer) that you can literally get almost anywhere else in town...and more importantly, something you can easily get at home.  Do they not sell salsa at the store where some of you live?

Yeah, this one was a head-scratcher. Was a decent CFS in a place where there were no other options. Crossed the river to Jersey to go to that Chili’s in Secaucus once or twice a year.

My hometown Pizza Hut is seriously fucking good.  I don't know about the rest of them.

Seriously... it’s just uber simple comfort food and you tards are bloviating about palate.

I’d put the high end restaurants on my list up against anyone on this board, holding back those Michelin starred as a courtesy, and would absolutely dominate. Hell, I spent most of my summers in France as a kid, so we’d drop into L’Auberge on a Tuesday...

No one here is trying to say that Chili’s is better than your favorite burger or Tex-mex joint, but it’s fairly consistent, deeply satisfying and very accessible.

Calm the fuck down and focus your ire on Long John Silvers or something.

This cracked me up

My dad used to like thousand island dressing. My parents divorced in 1973 and if we had thousand island dressing in my mom's refrigerator it was only in those first few years after the move. I haven't had it anywhere other than Pizza Hut since then. I ate there a lot in the 80's. I grew up in a really small town and that was the place to be on Friday nights after the high school football game.

I've only been there a handful of times in the last 20 years. Each time I've been disappointed by the pizza but very much enjoyed my salad with thousand island dressing. That didn't seem to change much.

As near as I can tell, everyone on this board falls into one of four categories:

1. Those that only eat $200 meals at 5* restaurants
2. Those that think Chili’s is Haute Cuisine
3. Those that only eat barbecue or gumbo that took them 24 hours to prepare
4. Me

Last weekend my wife and I grabbed a twenty piece mcnugget meal on the way home from nobu. If it tastes good it tastes good.

Chicken Nuggets are the thing that taught me, most singularly, about diminishing marginal return.  I was only 11 or 12 and didn’t quite grasp it, but later in economics class, there it was.

Does the fried chicken you're describing come slathered in sauce before you sprinkle your Louisiana hot sauce on it? Glistening, dripping, covering your fingers? And then you add hot sauce?

We were talking about Hooters wings, not sauceless, battered fried chicken like you'd get at KFC or Popeye's. Who orders just wings there?

If I order a 4-piece at Popeye's I'll get it spicy and ask for a leg, a thigh, a breast, and a wing. The wing will come all in one piece, not split into drumette and flapper, and there won't be sauce of any kind on my chicken. Then I might sprinkle some habañero Tabasco on it. But that's a totally different thing than soaking breaded chicken wings in a buttery sauce before serving. That's just gross.

I read an article a few weeks back about McD's soft drink process.  How they use different types of syrup containainers etc, all lines are refrigerated etc so it would taste better.   Wish I had paid closer attention to it now.,   But have to agree McD's cokes are da bomb.

Again, it's all about the brix.

I thought Taco Bell was bad until I ate at Taco Casa.  I think I still have stomach issues from that mistake from a year ago.

Also, for you youngsters, there 2as a time when Little Caesar's was not that bad.  I worked at one during high school.  My diet basically consisted of Pizza! Pizza! and crazy bread during my junior and senior years.

Hell, out in Cypress, in the 80s this was one of the only options. Especially for a young family with 3 kids (I was one of those kids). The two pizzas came in a cardboard and paper sleeve.

There was one outside of Camp Lejeune, NC and growing up we’d pick up pizza from there once a month. I remember it as pretty damn good but haven’t had Little Caesar’s in almost two decades.

I remember eating it a lot as a kid.  Quite a few in the burbs.

Now? They all in the hood.
