When? I just started the book.

that tweet was from today.  I'm guessing that NBC will start the bidding now, but maybe they got a conditional offer from a streamer, and that inspired them to start negotiating the music.

I'm not in that business, so I've got no clue

Interesting wording. It sounds like if NBC were going to keep it, Simon would mention Peacock.

Not great news. They dubbed over the original music on the show and substituted something. Often, perhaps always, crap.

Slightly disappointing given Simon’s ear for scoring in The Wire. But I’m still happy to have it. Almost certainly my chosen binge watch before football.

A couple episodes in to Season 1. Belzer and Clark Johnson stand out to me. They just dissolve into their roles.

Clark Johnson was the lone bright spot in The Wire’s Baltimore Sun scenes. He has chops. He should have gotten more chances.

Belzer has probably made a fortune via his work on Law & Order.

You guys have no idea just how much of a scrappy underdog this show was. NBC absolutely shit all over it for multiple seasons. They put it on the worst night for television for a drama, Friday evening against ABC's TGIF lineup. It was shown out of order with some episodes not even being shown in a lot of markets. It was constantly preempted. Season 2 only got 4 episodes. Multi-episode storylines were sometimes shown 2 to 3 weeks apart. It was something that should've been on HBO and not network television. All in the era when you either had to watch live or set your VCR to tape it and hope the episode was there.

I’m astonished they filmed a network show on location.

I finally dove in and 3 eps into it. What a remarkable show and great acting by the ensemble. I forgot I had a thing for Melissa Leo .

I enjoy with a show like this spotting the anachronisms. It’s 93 and it’s very much analog. No ones using cell phones. One computer for the squad. No dna. Shitty cars. VHS. Typewriters.

I wish they explained why Bayliss had to remain the lead detective on Adena Watson a little better. The book does a much better job of explaining BPD politics, hierarchies, and procedures. Basically the first responding homicide detective is the lead, no matter what. Seems like a silly rule to civilians, but it’s their law.

There’s one brief argument on the show. Giardello tells the brass to fuck off and that’s it. No explanation of why Giardello is right in their world.

I’m enjoying the inside baseball aspect of it, but the camera work is kind of distracting. Just shoot the scene. Don’t whip around the room every time a new speaker starts talking.

It’s pretty standard procedure back then, especially on a detective squad like this. In a city like LA they have had the Robbery Homicide Unit for decades which will take over a high profile, complex, or heinous murder from the regional branches like Hollywood or West LA. But generally the homicide squads operate much like this with partners taking lead or secondary depending on loads.

Goldblum discussed this show briefly on Ted Danson and Woody’s podcast. Woody was absent unfortunately. I’m intrigued.

Goldblum going back and forth with Danson was great. They kind of sort of have known each other since college.

Wrong thread. My apologies.
