The WAY too early June Presidential Debate thread

Biden wins if he doesn't have a viral "old" moment.

I wish I was more confident in his ability to clear this hurdle.

Yeah this is the only thing that could move the needle in this debate. Trump's mic being muted is a godsend for Trump.

Without a bad soundbite/video clip, Biden will win the debate handily and it will not matter one bit.

I guess I'm the only one who worries Trump is going to walk across the stage, knock Biden over and give him a concussion or broken hip?

Isn't that what a strong leader would do?

I'm not seeing anything that can happen that would sway a trump voter at this point. The only thing that comes to mind is for Biden to be the bully, call him a loser at every opportunity, point out all of his failures, not just during his presidency, and point out every time he blames someone else.

"It's always someone else's fault, isn't Donald."

"There's the loser talk again, how about answering the question?"

"Another response that's as worthless as this guy's Casino ventures that he managed to bankupt."

I doubt even that would make a difference, but it's something. But then again, the press will say how unprofessional he was, and he'll lose votes.

I'd still take Delaware Joe over the Dotard.  Only way Trump knocks Biden over is if he sits on him.

Another thought that comes to mind is that, if nothing else, get Trump to say candidly that he'll support Israel's total destruction of Gaza. Again, doubt it will matter since the youngs seem incapable of seeing the difference, but it's at least something.

Doesn't really matter what Biden says, but it matters a great deal how he says it. The goal is to be presidential and I think he is more capable of that than Trump.

Trump will probably hang himself. His base won't change but there's an non trivial amount of voters who haven't been paying much attention who just need to see the men firsthand without any spin before they know who they like better. Those people are numb to the attack ads, numb to the cable news, numb to the social media debates. They know it's all horseshit. These people hated Hillary Clinton, and in 2016 weren't thrilled about Trump. These people saw Biden and Trump in 2020 and said Biden would do a better job of getting us out of the pandemic (which was true).

Today there's no equivalent to the pandemic, so the criteria is a bit less well-defined. In the end, those voters probably knew that Biden runs much less of a clown show and just need to verify firsthand that he's still presidential and a reminder that Trump, well, isn't.

Only 2 things could happen to make this debate meaningful:

1. A McConnell-esque elderly moment that makes it a dominant headline.

2. A physical altercation.

Nothing else will really sway any voters.  Trump could say the N word, openly admit to various crimes, or walk off the stage in the middle of the debate, and not one voter’s mind is changing.  Biden can mumble or stutter or curse, or get lost walking onto the stage, and nobody’s mind is changing.  Short of one of them having a senior moment that undeniably proves they are unfit for office, or the two of them actually physically fighting (in which case whoever “wins” the fight will win the election), this debate is meaningless.  It is fucking pathetic how little policy actually matters to the electorate and it’s sad that the odds of the 2 things listed happening are so high.

He's been that his entire presidency, and was the same person for decades before, and yet it doesn't matter, the polls are still inextricably tied. If there truly are people who plan to vote but are so disengaged that they haven't seen this guy act like a toddler day in and day out, they sure as fuck aren't tuning into debates or seeing any of the post-debate reports. I just can't get over the fact that the polls are tied. Yeah, I know they're not reliable, but even bad polling should show people understanding that the guy has zero substance whatsoever, and it should have sunk him years ago with his own party. And yet, he's up on that fucking stage, and 99.9% of people with an R by their name just nod along and support him, because they're voters like who he is and how he acts. Again, this is why I probably won't watch, it'll just be a spiral of depression.

I do think Trump walking off the set is very much in play.  In fact, I could see him ramble through his opening statement, get muted when his time is up, then walk off.

From what I heard on Deadline White House today. Trump won’t be making an opening statement. I suppose that could change. Trump could decide at the last minute he wants to make one.

Another matter regarding debate structure I heard recently, also on DWH, I believe, is that they had a coin toss to decide some things and the Biden team won. They opted for their choice of podium rather than who would get to make their closing statement last so Trump will have the final word. That seems like an unforced error to me but what do I know? I’d think you’d want to go out with the president sounding presidential.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that the format includes neither candidate making an opening statement.

The Biden team doesn’t feel like it matters who speaks last because fewer and fewer people will be tuned in by the end of the debate

Yeah, but let's be honest, there will be about 8 people watching by the end, who cares about the last word because all the clips will be soundbites from throughout.

My dad is 83 and looks and acts younger than Biden.

But then again, my dad hasn't been running the country the past 3.5 years with all the inflation issues, border security, Israel invasion of Gaza, Republic majority, Trumpists, etc.

That shit ages you in a hurry. Don't know why anyone would want to run for president.

Serious question, if he did that and then Biden nailed it would that just mean trump concedes?

No. It would mean they would pivot to some other nonsensical test that Trump himself can’t pass, or whatever horseshit vomits out of a deranged rapist head

What's crazy to me is that this stupid bitch Cathy Wood from ARK invest has destroyed billions of wealth this quarter alone and is overall down 66% in her main fund while the market is raging higher said she was voting for trump for pure economic reasons. Like really? How the fuck is the economy the strongest/highest it's ever been and you say this kind of bullshit.

Sadly, there's a non-zero chance this actually happens and when Biden forgets someone, the GQP loses their collective minds.  Think of the dumbest thing you can think of and they will do something even dumber than that.

She further explained that Laffer Associates founder and chairman Art Laffer "describes the first three years of the Trump presidency as the best in U.S. economic history, not the last one because of COVID, and I would agree."

Oh look, it's that guy again.  He certainly hasn't been completely debunked in economic circles right?

Trump is not to fill his empty head with policy concerns. He’s going to shoot from the hip. I’m kinda looking forward to him talking crazy uninterrupted for 2 minutes without an audience. I think he’ll come across as crazy as hell.

He is literally going to say the same soundbites he says every day. You can copy and paste from his recent speeches

Less than four years ago, our border was secure, inflation was nowhere to be seen. The world was at peace. They respected your country and America was strong like never before, all because you finally had a president who put America first. I put America first. Now under crooked Joe Biden, the worst President in the history of our country, the world is in flames. Our border is overrun. Inflation is raging. Crime is out of control. Europe is in chaos. The Middle East is exploding. Iran is emboldened. China is on the march. And this horrible, horrible President is dragging us toward World War III. We’re going to be in World War III soon. I see every move he’s making. Remember, Trump was right about everything. You see the cap. Trump was right. We’re racing a clock. We’re racing a clock. We’ll be in World War III with this guy

Under the Trump administration, we’re going to bring law and order and safety back to our streets. We are going to bring success back to our schools

But saving this once incredible place begins with stopping the killing and the crime that’s setting records every single week. Unbelievably, crooked Joe Biden is going around trying to claim that crime is down. He says crime is down. Crime is so much up. First of all, we have a new form of crime. It’s called the Biden Migrant crime, right? Biden Migrant

We’re going to give immunity to our police. So if they arrest somebody or if they speak a little bit harshly, they won’t be discarded. They won’t be destroyed. They won’t be thrown in jail because they raise their voice to a criminal. They won’t lose their family, they won’t lose their home, they won’t lose their pension. But the FBI crime statistics Biden is pushing are fake. They’re fake just like everything else in this administration.

Day after day, week after week, Joe Biden is releasing illegal criminals into our communities to rape, pillage, plunder, and to kill

We had a rigged election take place. And what happened is when I left, all hell broke loose. And they didn’t want to finish the wall, they didn’t want to put up the additional wall we built. And it was all built to the highest specs of Border Patrol and ICE. And they’re incredible people, by the way, Border Patrol and ICE. And instead of putting it up, which would’ve taken three weeks, they decided to sell it for 5 cents on the dollar. And the rest is history. When I return to the White House, we will stop the plunder, rape, slaughter and destruction of our American suburbs, cities and towns. That’s what’s happening. It’s getting worse. It’s getting worse. Worse and worse and worse by the day. We will shut down deadly sanctuary cities. I will shift massive portions of federal law enforcement to immigration enforcement. And on day one, we will begin the largest domestic deportation operation in American history. We have no choice. We have no choice.

Trump was a guest on the all in podcast this week and sounded completely different than I've ever heard.  He was funny, lucid, didn't insult anyone, had good policy points, and even gave Biden respect.  I don't know if he has someone behind the scenes coaching him and he's somehow listening to them now but if he's like that on Thursday and going forward this is going to be a decisive victory for him.
