Blake’s video mentioned Schuessler and Jacquae Stewart possibly rotating at 1B. At 5’10 245 I’m intrigued to see Stewart. While not excited to see such a diminutive first baseman I surely hope he can crack! I remember being equally nervous when a sub 6 foot Tant Shepherd manned first but he acquitted himself quite well that year.

Did Kimble play any 1B last year?

Between Kimble and Galvan was one definitively better defensively last year?

Almost certain KS didn’t play any first last year. Poked through a bunch of box scores and it was almost always Borba and a bit of JOD when JT was in the outfield.

Don’t know where he’ll play, but I think Stewart hits 20 homers this year

Wow 7th is pretty high. I’d probably have us more in the 12-15 range with some of the pitching question marks but the lineup is certainly top 10 quality.

We have 22 games against teams in that preseason top 25, including 7 of our 10 SEC conference series (A&M, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, OU, Auburn)

Expecting a 2 seed this year, lately that means top 9/10 in sec play. Maybe that expands this year with us and OU, but 10/32 is already a huge chunk

Staff overall is better, but still will be outgunned on the mound nearly every Friday in conference and most Saturdays. Gage is also irreplaceable. Don’t know enough about how similar/different the offensive approach will be, but at worst we’ll have the same streaky power as last year and win some big games.

Honestly think the pitching will take 3 seasons to correct for Pierce’s malpractice

3 years? Not in the NIL era for Texas if we do things correctly.

We had a glaring need for a Friday starter and were outbid on a number of targets.  Not to say that we didn’t upgrade the staff, but there are question marks. To be title-caliber it’s likely going to need to be homegrown and 3 years without recruiting pitchers is a big hole to fill.

I think we need to look at pitching differently this year. I dont think we’re going to rely on a traditional starter. But more or less guys pitching a few innings and situational pitching more so.

While not answering your question exactly, leaving a cult is a pretty good reason all on its own.

Now might be a good time to revisit Schlossnagle's obvious discomfort and disgust with all the cult-y stuff going on in their stadium.  In one onfield interview late last season he said everything but "I can't believe I took this job, these people are super weird".

Has there ever been an example of a coach leaving the preseason #1 team to take another job at the same level? While not answering your question exactly, leaving a cult is a pretty good reason all on its own.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. That place is so shitty and he prefers UT so much that it doesn't matter if they were ranked #1, he was going to leave.

Ok. I don’t care how good the Arizon Diamondbacks are. If the Yankees call and make an offer, you take it.

Ok sure maybe, but has that ever actually happened? Or is UT baseball the only one with dicks big enough to poach the coach from the #1 team?

So aggy is #1, with a head coach who was the hitting coach last year, has never been a head coach, and has less than five years as a paid coach on his resume.  I get that they have a lot of talent, but how does that add up?  Surely the abilities and experience of the head coach have to factor in as well.

They made a very impulsive hire to hold that roster together for one year. But at least we have his picture in the Texas uniform for the lulz

They did it to hold the roster together and to do what Aggy always does, try to turn a loss into some kind of moral victory against evil Texas.

"Look Texas didn't get our players or our best and most loyal coach, that gets Texas A&M." It's a one-year gamble by Aggy that will blow up in their face if it doesn't pay off with a really great season.

The only thing Earley got was all of a sudden, he got a big promotion and pay raise to be head coach of a very talented team. He was all in on going to Texas till it happened. I don't think he will be "whooping" and "squeezing" in the dugout.

No pressure though Mike ole buddy, none at all.
