I'm curious about what anybody here thinks of Jonah Williams for this season. He's obviously a true freshman and the team is stacked, so I assume he's not expected to play much? Does anyone know whether he's being worked on as a pitcher? Or OF?

Said to be starting at pitcher then outfield

He's a lefty pitcher that throws in the 90's, that's pretty valuable and Texas does have a real pitching coach now.

He can really run and could be used as a pinch runner. He could also be a position player in time, if he stays around long enough.

He's a top athlete in two sports. Will just have to see how it goes, if he wants to stay in both sports and how long he is at Texas.

Thought he was still injured and rehabbing?  My understanding was that he is most likely to see the field as a pitcher this year.

No one has an “easy” schedule in this conference, but how in the hell did OU avoid A&M, Tennessee, Florida and Arkansas this season? Their road conference schedule is Kentucky, South Carolina, Alabama, Missouri and Georgia. That is about as friendly as it gets in this league.

As we saw in FB, MBB/WBB and softball, the schedule imbalances are pretty bad.  Mega conferences suck for this reason.

Yeah, @torre reminded me about the injury offline yesterday. Here's hoping that JW can go at some point this year and be found money for the baseball program. Seems doubtful, but sure, no harm.

I don't know what his injury timeline is but he would be a nice addition to the bullpen late in the season.

He suffered a fractured L clavicle (collarbone) on October 25. Unless there are atypical complications with the healing or rehab processes, it should take an otherwise healthy adult 12 weeks (at most) to fully recover and be cleared for contact sports.

If he had surgery shortly after, we're at that 12-week point. However, Blake Munroe said this on 1/23:

Sounds like he just wasn't ready to throw/hit yet, given he's left handed (throwing and batting). It's been almost two weeks since those updates. I'd wager he's there or close.

There shouldn't be any reason he couldn't contribute as a pinch runner, relief pitcher/OF later in the season - especially midweek games. He certainly should be a full participant in fall camp for football.

Looked over the roster today. Couple of thoughts:

1) 43 players is absurd. They only get 26 in the pros, college teams should be capped at 35 imo.

2) heartwarming to see so many homies on the team

3) Hopefully Jonah Williams stops the baseball cosplaying after this year. He’s not Kyler Murray or Bryce Boettcher. He’d really benefit from just doing football.

4) pitching staff looks good, but there’s no real true lockdown ace. I feel like you need one to make noise in Omaha.

1) you can't add/replace players anytime during the season in college like you can in the pros.

Payback for their rough football schedule?

Maybe it will be like our football schedule... preseason it was "ok that's rough enough" .. then it was "no that's weak!!!!" .. then it was "ok that's rough enough"... then it was "no that's weak!!!!".... The reason for the flip flopping was that we kept winning. Hopefully nobody cares because OU sucks.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that he also played Hot-Corner (3B/Third-Base to you kids), so if he gets healed up and wants to play infield, that will be where he's had the most infield experience.

When's the last time you saw a left handed third baseman?

Watching a stream on tv is no different than BS cable needed for LHN. SEC+ lets you stream on your TV the same way you viewed games on LHN.

Not to mention just about every major traditional cable or streaming cable company has SECN included.

LHN still required you to find the specific companies who carried it.

Mike Schmidt, Wade Boggs, A-Rod, Graig Nettles, George Brett..... lots of star-power there.

Wow. Schmidt and A-Rod were more talented than I thought, batting and throwing right handed when they were actually left-handed apparently.

Ha! I'll be on the shinkansen having curious Japanese (that are baseball crazy, BTW) asking me what baseball game that is (Texas playing whoever) that's playing at 7am JST ---again.  Lulz.

SEC+ is the same exact thing as LHN.

I just enjoyed the ease of just turning on my TV instead of signing up for another streaming service on top of the countless ones I already pay for and from what I’ve seen of SEC announcers during football, I think I might actually prefer Lowell over them…

If you pay for hulu/disney then you almost certainly have espn+.  If you do not have hulu/disney then the barrier to getting espn+ is not onerous for the baseball season.  Or you can use texas.leanplayer.com and listen to the games for free. I know it's not the same as zombie DeLoss Dodds driving over and presenting the game to you via interpretive dance.

Oh shit, he's not dead.  My bad double D.
