our historical performance across all men's sports when the national title is within sight isn't very good. it's pretty frustrating actually.  football as another example missed out on 6 opportunities in my life time - I think 77, def 83, also 08 and 09 with Colt, and twice with Quinn. during that time, football has only won it once. 1/7 is right in line with baseball's historical average.

and show my a Schloss?

I guess I'm glad we got that out of the way.

Now get that fucking swagger back. Texas mojo is about the only thing that can save me from this hellscape.

This is a load of crap.

38 trips to the CWS with six titles. Eight teams make it. We have slightly worse than one title for every six trips. Better than the 1-in-8 winner average.

Making it to the final? We've been runner-up six times to go with our six titles, meaning we are 6 for 12. Exactly average.

Get a fucking grip.

Fuck off look at the table. It’s just a fact.

What, exactly, is a fact? That we have won titles only 16% of the time we've gone to Omaha?

You do realize that the EXPECTED value is only 12.5%, right? And we have beaten that.

So, what FACT are you referring to?

Your entire assumption is that 1-8 have equal chances. That’s not the case. So take your quasi logic argument and dump it in your 6th double of whiskey and swallow it down because I’m not interested.

besides if you didn’t come in with a case of the rage head maybe we could have a rational discussion about it.

night.

Heh, heh.  Yeah, ok buddy. I'm the one who doesn't want to have a rational discussion.

Sure thing.

The world is enough of a shithole, I’m not interested in aggressive banter anymore, you lead off with “that’s a load of crap”, finish with “get a grip” then come back with that retort - over a comment that I wish our conversion was better - yeah not interested.

in our lifetimes, Texas loses a bullshit one game title to Wichita state, loses a heart breaker to cal state Fullerton, and LSU. Bump that percentage up to Arizona state, Arizona, or Cal State Fullerton and we’ve got 2-3 more titles. Given that Texas was often a higher seed, a team with CWS experience and GOATs for coaches, it’s not “a load of crap” to think Texas would win 20-23% of the time. There’s not thing to “get a grip” about here. Texas football conversion rate is worse given until now it was either a single game or 2 games to claim it all.

Just to beat a dead horse.  Line is the predicted # of titles with all 8 teams having an equal chance of winning.  UT slightly outperforming.  USC is ridiculous.  FSU 0 for 24.

Nice to see us do well in one of those February tournaments.

Still lots to work on. Beat these scrubs in the next five games and then off to Las Vegas.

I hope we kick ass in Vegas. I'll be there.

This was exactly what I said, but in graphical form.

The crazy thing is how far to the right we are on the graph. That is why we are the Yankees of college baseball.

27 titles. Exactly 0 are tainted by sign stealing  or any other kind of allegation. Sorry your team sucks.

2009 was won on the bat of admitted cheater Alex Rodriguez. The prior run was during the height of the steroid era and feature numerous players that would admit to using PEDs. And that's not including the obvious ones that were to cowardly too admit they cheated. Cough, Roger, cough.

Graig Nettles, star of the Yankees 1977 and 1978 World Series champs, was discovered as a cheat when his bat broke and six superballs came bouncing out.

Whitey Ford admitted to scuffing and using illegal substances on balls when pitching in the World Series. BTW, Ford was on the Yankees World Series teams that won in 1950, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, and 1962.

So with a quick google search, I found at least 11 Yankee titles that are tainted by cheating. That's 40% without even breaking a sweat.

Finally:

Quote

In the letter, Manfred informed the Yankees that MLB's investigation found that the team's players watched the monitors in 2015 and 2016 to discern pitch-sequence information that was then relayed to baserunners in the hope that they could communicate this to the batter. Additionally, sources told ESPN that the letter notes that former Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild called the replay room to ask about pitch identification, which is against the rules.

$100,000 fine for stealing signs you stupid cunt. Your Cashman for Clunkers teams are just too shitty to win when they cheat now.

That's awesome. How do I get in on some of those tix that get returned?

Not that it matters what butts are in what seats, but it would be cool if he could get some additional student engagement with free tix.

Brutal forecast tonight. Chance of rain pretty much all the way up to the first pitch, with temperatures dropping into the 40s and maybe into the 30s by the time the game ends. Winds up to 20 MPH blowing straight in.

In regards to this weekend, Schloss yesterday made it sound like he did not want to play Friday (temps not getting out of the 30s) and is working with Dartmouth to try to find a way to play maybe 1 on Saturday and two on Sunday (best weather day of the week, high of 67 no rain). Dartmouth is scheduled to fly out around 6 on Sunday night so it could be tricky.

Oh no, not the 30s!

I mean I know a major D1 program will get replacements but high tech bats really aren't supposed to be used in those temperatures either.

Arm safety obviously is a much bigger concern but that's another one.

I guess I completely forgot about the Grad student housing taking 500ish parking spots in the baseball parking garage.

and now I see that anyone who doesnt have season tickets now has to park in the LBJ lots and use a shuttle bus, in what UT laughingly describes as a "slight" change in public parking... yeah very slight, go from parking in either the garage or Lot 110... to all the way across the damn highway to the LBJ lots

there are gonna be a shitload of people used to parking in 110 or just paying for a ticket that are going to show up for single games very late and very pissed.

This is the annual game I point to when I tell people there is no place colder in Texas than a February game at Disch-Falk.

I was just browsing last year's box scores for the UH series. Remember the 8-run 9th inning on Sunday?  I didn't either, until 5 minutes ago.

We used 12 different pitchers, with only Dre and Grubbs remaining on this year's roster (not including Ace).  We got shut down on Friday by Owen Woodward and Cade Citelli, who were both drafted.
