And now he’s dead. So we can definitely say it was a horrible idea.

I’m primarily talking about this look. I don’t mind pants at or barely above the knee, and players have worn loose or tight through out the years. I don’t think stirrups make it look any better.

I've never seen that. Looks horrible.

I guess there were some, but I don't know of anybody that thought it was a good idea then or now.

Veek was like Barnum would try crazy things (like Barnum side shows) to draw crowds and publicity because the White Sox were usually bad.

"Disco Demolition Night," when they blew up all the disco records on the field in 1979 caused a riot.

The most famous stunt was and still is legendary was pinch hitting Eddie Gaedel in 1951.

Veek owned another bad team then, the St. Louis Browns and wanted a stunt for an expected large home crowd on the 50th anniversary of the American League. There was to be a band, old car parade, and baseball clown Max Patkin between games of a DH.

After losing the first game of the DH, in the bottom of the 1st of the second game he sent a new player he had just signed to lead off.

Eddie Gaudel strode out to the batter's box, all 3' 7" of him, wearing the number 1/8, with his tiny bat. The ump stopped the game and went to the Browns dugout. He was shown Gaedel's contract and then it was "play ball."

Detroit Tiger pitcher Bob Cain thought it was just a stunt, but then realized it was for real. He had no idea what to do, and walked Gaedel on four pitches, which none were called low. Gadel was replaced by a pinch runner.

This would be the extent of his MLB career.

Gaudel wore his pants at knee length as you can see.

Day in Sports: Stuntman Eddie Gaedel makes his MLB debut - Los Angeles ...

While playing for Cleveland in 1919 Ray Caldwell was struck by lightning on the mound, got knocked out, woke up, and still finished pitching the fucking inning. And now we cancel and reschedule games because it’s below 40 degrees.

Y'all cancelled opening day against us April 4, 2016 bc it was cold and snowed the night before. Called it the day before. Gameday wasn't a cloud in the sky. Don't wanna hear it.

Temps tomorrow are supposed to be in the 20's by 9pm. Why wouldn't we move it up? It would be dumb no to.

I was going to head down to Austin for this series but canceled those plans earlier in the week.  Glad I did because I would have only gotten to see 1 game now.  Now heading down March 7-9.

Pants lengths have been up and down through the years. Some players liked showing off the leggings or stirrups. How do you think the Cincinatti Red Stockings and Red Legs got the name before becoming just known as the Cincinatti Reds. They wore the pants at knee length with red socks or stockings

Then players didn't wear the stirrups, and sanitary socks were made with a stirrup like stripe up each side of a sock.

The P. T. Barnum of baseball Bill Veek when he owned the White Sox decided that they should wear these uniforms in 1976.

Ralph Garr In Shorts,1976 White Sox | Mlb uniforms, White sox baseball ...

Some players started wearing longer socks all the way up to or beyond the pants underneath because of what sliding would do in those shorts.

They were known as the Red Legs during the 1950's because of Joe McCarthy and his "red scare" scourge, not anything to do with the uniform.

I read that as "statin" at first and I was like, damn, they already give college kids cholesterol meds?

Helobious has to be punching air right now. First Texas, now the Yanks!

Looks like Texas Baseball is the real trendsetter in the sport. Yankees are just followers of the true GOAT program.

How I remember it....

Rupp had switched up his walkup song and was having a horrible game (yes, against Nebraska).  For that last AB it was switched back to King Kong (Jibbs) and he went oppo for the walk off.

Don't think it hit the sign, could be.

Longhorns aren’t the Yankees of college baseball, the Yankees are the Longhorns of pro ball.

Yup, still can’t believe there are people on this board that think facial hair and long hair is a big deal and shouldn’t be allowed

biggest take away was team having a low gpa….

This isn’t the 70s boomer, kids these days want to be able to express themselves. Fuck off

I can’t believe there’s still people on this board that think this matters at all either way and take active stances for or against it.

I liked our cleanshaven look and I liked being able to easily identify all of our players that way.

But winning is more important. If the coach thinks it is better for the team, then I am fine with it.

I just dread the sorts of facial hair we are going to see.

It’s wild that facial hair is so polarizing but tattoos aren’t.  One is permanent, one can be easily shaved off.

It is downright stupid

Really, how many people have died on the stupidest hill ever in this forum?

People are disgusting. Salt stained baseball caps. Someone who looks like they've spent more on tattoos on their arms than they have on college tuition. Listen to the game on the radio and pretend they all look like Taylor Teagarden when you are rubbing one out if it bothers you so.  :)

Having said that, you better fucking win.

I am so spoiled by the LHN and streaming I don't know if I could ever go back to listening on the radio.

Players will just look like slobs, no biggie. Just because I like something better than something else doesn't mean I am clutching my pearls about it.

I was going more hyperbole and alliteration than codeming you.  :)

Playing live poker and watching a dude lick his fingers and then put chips in a pot makes me think that world needs to be cleansed from orbit in sterilizing fire so I hear ya...

I don't have a problem with facial hair as long as it is kept trimmed.  Don't want a DDA looking player out there playing for us.

Even If he hits 60 HR and has a sub 2.0 ERA?

I think I could get over my disdain for his unkept facial hair if he put up those numbers.
