Article on the Yankees facial hair from the Athletic

Yankees announce changes to team’s longstanding facial hair policy

One of the most recognizable rules in all of sports is no longer. The New York Yankees announced Friday morning that they will allow “well-groomed beards” moving forward.

“In recent weeks I have spoken to a large number of former and current Yankees — spanning several eras — to elicit their perspectives on our longstanding facial hair and grooming policy, and I appreciate their earnest and varied feedback,” Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said in a statement.

“These most recent conversations are an extension of ongoing internal dialogue that dates back several years. Ultimately the final decision rests with me, and after great consideration, we will be amending our expectations to allow our players and uniformed personnel to have well-groomed beards moving forward. It is the appropriate time to move beyond the familiar comfort of our former policy.”

The rule has been in place since 1976 when Hal’s father, George, instituted it for his club.

Players were allowed to have mustaches and hair that did not extend past the collar of their uniforms.

New Yankees closer Devin Williams showed up to report day with a full beard, took team pictures with noticeable facial hair and wasn’t happy about needing to shave. Now, he won’t have to worry about it moving forward.

This story will be updated.

I was going more hyperbole and alliteration than codeming you.  :)

Playing live poker and watching a dude lick his fingers and then put chips in a pot makes me think that world needs to be cleansed from orbit in sterilizing fire so I hear ya...

Even If he hits 60 HR and has a sub 2.0 ERA?

The fucking worst. Seems to be mainly old people. Or at least it is with the games i play in around here.

Will it hurt you or impact your life or self-worth in some way unknown by the rest of us?

No it will not hurt me in any way.

I can just have opinions in a frivolous impactful way.

I don't have a problem with facial hair as long as it is kept trimmed.  Don't want a DDA looking player out there playing for us.

you will get this and like it

Here's some stats for the UIW pitching staff after 8 games.

Who is the pitching coach at UIW so I know to never send my kids to play for him.

Their Friday starter (Salinas) threw 87 pitches in the season opener, came out of the bullpen in the first midweek game then made his normal start last Friday, a 7-inning complete game with 95 pitches.

3 appearances and 200 pitches the first 7 days of the season.

Was it Cameron Rupp that went oppo walk off and hit it? Maybe against Nebraska…

That was the moment that came to my mind when reading that. Always felt bad for my wife because it was the first pitch after a pitching change and she was busy updating the scorebook and missed it off the bat.

I liked our cleanshaven look and I liked being able to easily identify all of our players that way.

But winning is more important. If the coach thinks it is better for the team, then I am fine with it.

I just dread the sorts of facial hair we are going to see.

Our guys are the ones in burnt orange. It’s a little trick I use to identify them.

I mean as individual humans.

I would think requiring everyone to have the same haircut and facial hair would make it harder to identify someone.

It's a lot easier to pick out the guy with Bert Auburn hair or a Goose Gossage moustache than to tell apart 1 white guy with a buzz cut and no facial hair from the other 20 white guys with a buzz cut and no facial hair.

Yes. Everybody on the team had a buzzcut. WTF? And yes people, even white male ones, are very distinguishable from their facial features even if they do have similar hair cute. Humans are excellent at distinguishing people that way.

Anyway look I just liked it. No big deal.

As long as their hair is cute you like it? Cool

It appears that the Illini will be the strongest team we'll face this weekend, and we'll get their 3rd best starter (probably).  How does the park in LV play?  I'm assuming it's good for hitters.
