Coaches poll has us a spot below LSU

I guess that's fair considering there was a gap before the series, and they whole season is taken into account...BUT Games 2 and 3 were pretty dominant wins.

D1Baseball has us at 7

Well, their owner is an Aggy who had Aggy at preseason #1 and still kept them above Texas after a few weeks of baseball. They are not very good at this ranking stuff.

If the whole season is being considered then Texas should be above LSU because LSU has played absolutely no one outside of conference.

"Pre season rankings/expectations"  Look how long it took aggie to fall out.

Those were both factors. The firing was over and done with before he was even aware of it, and the the facilities upgrade was something that was brought up with his hiring (which wasn't done or even started in the 3 yrs he was there). Kind of part of the reason $10 million (or 9.9 per CTJ) CDC has already approved for the concourse area of DFF.

Plus he and CDC had a great working relationship at TCU. Suck it aggy

As soon as CDC became AD at Texas, the countdown began on when Schlossnagle would be the head baseball coach at Texas.

A great working relationship is putting it mildly, they are nearly joined at the hip.

I would still like to know if they go on three-hour walks together each week on the forty acres like they did at TCU.

Those are easy to acquire.

1. Go to any Texas beach and post you lost your aggy ring on FB

2. (Tens of?) Thousands of aggys show up to search high and low until they find you one

3. ????

4. Use acquired aggy ring for double top secret mission to convince aggy's coach to move to Austin by taunting aggy's opponent's coach over a horrible, personal tragedy, while remembering to being so over the top obnoxious to make national news and get a lifetime CWS ban, causing said coach to GTFO and profit

you had me until 4

Excerpts from story on Jonah Williams.

Quote

Williams' debut came on the same day the Texas football program held the first of its 15 spring practices. A two-sport athlete who enrolled early after signing with Texas as a five-star safety out of Galveston Ball High, Williams did not participate in that morning practice.

Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle explained after Tuesday's win that UT football coach Steve Sarkisian has allowed Williams to primarily focus on baseball this spring. Williams has attended a few football meetings, but most of his time has been spent at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

"Sark has said from day one, when he's with baseball, he's with baseball," Schlossnagle said. "I gotta decide if he's gonna travel this weekend (to Missouri) or not. I'll talk to coach Sark, see what his thoughts are. If they would want him in football, I don't want him sitting on our bench, not able to play. But he may have a real role for us."

Schlossnagle said that Williams threw off the mound for the first time on Tuesday and is "probably a ways away" from pitching for the Longhorns. Schlossnagle assessed that Williams runs well in the outfield and has had impressive batting practices.

"He just needs at-bats," Schlossnagle said. "That's the challenge for a two-sport athlete, especially when you're trying to hit. If you're a pitcher, a little different. Hitting is one of those things, you've got to stay on it almost all year round, and that'll be his challenge moving forward. But if anybody can do it, those great athletes like Jonah can do it.

"I have a soft spot, specifically for him. I've known him for a long time. We recruited him at my previous stop, and I really believe in him. I've never got to coach a real superstar athlete like that who has a chance to be truly legit at both. And so I'm really excited about it."

Looking back at some previous games in Columbia. I don't remember this one at all. What the hell happened here?

https://texaslonghorns.com/news/2008/4/11/041108aaa_749.aspx

Lol what the what

Texas (22-11, 7-6 Big 12) was able to score nine runs in five innings off Missouri's Aaron Crow, who entered the contest with a 42.2 inning scoreless inning streak. The Longhorns were unable to capitalize on the offensive assault, giving up three runs in the second, 10 runs in the third and six in the fourth to trail 19-9 at the midway point. The Horns also gave up six runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth.

iirc,  30MPH winds were a contributing factor with numerous HR's.   Not a good year,  lost to St Johns and Rice in the Rice Regional.

Weird things happen in Columbia.   Not 2008, but wasn't that where Ricky Jacquez went out the night before his start with some Mizzou coeds and began the end to his career ?

Will be windy this weekend also.   88% chance of t'storms on Sunday.

Ha, I was gonna bring that game up. You beat me to it. Allegedly he got back to the room at like 2 am with two Missouri coeds. Was a 3some worth getting kicked off the team for? That’s silly to even ask. Of course it was.

That was 2012. Came close to puking on the mound, IIRC. Gone from the team a few days letter and suspended for PEDs after being drafted by the Mets.

And that’s  why you have to make your memories when you have the opportunity.

Lost the Saturday game 13-2 as well.  Ruffin and Cole Green shut them down on Sunday. That might have been Ruffin's first start.  Mizzou had some really good teams/players back in those days - Crow, Scherzer, Aaron Gibson, dude named Priday who could rake.  I'm assuming their facilities haven't improved along with everyone else and they have no baseball NIL, resulting in suck.

I was listening to Craig Way when it happened. It was kind of hilarious. “And it appears Jacquez just vomited on the mound….. Skip Johnson is out to talk to him. And looks like he’s pulled from the game! Before he even throws a pitch!”

Did he actually puke on the mound?  I remember listening to it (before every game was televised), but I don't recall that detail.

I’m 99% sure he did. I also have a shitty memory. My weed habit has nothing to do with that so don’t even bring it up.

So if Texas finishes top 4, you only need to go 3-0 to win the conference tournament? That's pretty nice.

Yep, same as the basketball tournament. Really, really rewards the top 4 seeds….

The Friday night game with the wind, Texas got out to a big we thought lead in the first, pitching just fell apart and Texas got killed, the score was like 31-12. This was in 2012 in Columbia.

The Jacquez thing was well documented. He was the starter for Saturday.  They weren't just coeds; they were members of a Missouri support group, and it was an organized plan to take him out as a starting pitcher the next day.

It was his birthday, and these coeds found out and went and talked to him after the Friday night game. He was a dumb Freshman with hormones, and not of legal age to drink.

They took him to a local place, with the help of the staff there he was allowed to drink and drink and stayed out really late and got totally wasted.

During his warmup pitches in the bottom of the first inning, he just walked off the mound into the dugout and threw up and that was that.

The next day a starting player for Missouri, the first baseman posted on a Missouri board forum thanking these coeds for doing a great job.

Augie was pissed and dismissed him from the team.

He got drafted and kicked around in the minors and then a longer period in the Mexican League.

High School
  • Earned three letters for Coach Andy Powers at Franklin High School in El Paso, Texas
  • Recorded 209 strikeouts with an 11-3 record over 119 innings of work during his last two years at Franklin
  • Pitched and played shortstop for the West Texas Cats summer club

5-10-12 -

We tweeted yesterday that Ricky Jacquez, Freshman Texas Baseball pitcher, was dismissed from the team for unspecified violations of team rules. The announcement hit the media avenues today that Jacquez was, in fact, asked to leave the team. Two days… two freshmen pitchers gone. Parker French lost to a shoulder injury and Ricky Jacquez lost to ….. well, that’s the hush part. While it was not disclosed exactly what Jacquez did to merit his dismissal by Augie Garrido and the Texas Athletic department, rumors have certainly been thrown around. We will not get into those but what we will tell you is that the series of events in the Missouri game in which Jacquez was supposed to pitch were a bit odd.

Wasn’t this also the series where Ruffin got in the team’s ass on the way home? Didn’t help much for that year but established him as a leader and laid the foundation for the 09-10 run.

They had to bring him home he was in no shape to do much of anything.

As I said this was an organized plan to sabotage Jacquez and they got an underaged player totally wasted, which was the plan.

The last thing they wanted was Jacquez to get picked up by the campus or city police.

Then there would have been some kind of an investigation into the matter.
