Not sure about your math there, buddy. I think i'd rather watch Jimbo watching himself get cuck'd than Sumlin fall down or RC...do anything.

Also, FYI, A&M's other TE "commit" - Caleb Tafua, from California - visited USC for Junior Day, and then said this:

"What stood out to me was mostly kids I grew up playing youth football with," said Tafua. "USC's main thing was talking about keeping Cali kids in Cali.

"Keeping all of that talent (on one team). We could beat Ohio State."

USC hiring Chad Savage as inside receivers coach is one major change in Tafua's recruitment since his commitment to Texas A&M. Tafua had a relationship with Savage prior to his appointment with the Trojans and the two have picked up where they left off last year.

"Talking with coach Savage, he was one of the first coaches to recruit me when he was at Colorado State," said Tafua. "Just seeing him coming back to his hometown and him telling us how he is going to develop me… because he is the tight ends and slots coach.

"He knows a lot about the game, and I feel like kids out here in Southern California are used to him. I think that's a big change and will make a big impact in USC recruiting."

The combination of USC's location and the recruiting prowess of Savage make the Trojans an intriguing option.

"USC is like a next-door neighbor — it's like a 15 minute drive," said Tafua. "I don't have to take a flight out there.

"Yesterday was a good experience seeing all the kids I knew from youth football and all of the talent in SoCal. They want to keep the Cali kids home, so yeah, I felt like a priority."

He was one of several OOS guys that committed after the win over the paper tigers of LSU.  I'm sure The Elk put the pressure on kids with them being a "real program" at the time.  He won't be the last OOS guy to decommit.  I'm betting the other kid from Georgia won't last either.

Yeah, that WR, correct? I'd bet he decommits within a month or so. Why would a WR want to go to an offense that barely throws the ball? I'd bet Jerome Myles got a pretty big NIL package, otherwise it makes zero sense why he would go there.

I bet he hits the portal after year one or year two.

From Andrew Hattersley (Aggie 247):

"Ryan Gilbert reopened his recruitment. This was an early commitment A&M took and helped with Lamont Rogers, but this was one that was best for both sides with some other big cornerback targets out there."

What other CB targets?  Only two CB's are in the top 30 players in the state in Jalen Lott (ain't happening) and Jermaine Bishop.  Maybe they get ridiculous with NIL for him, but seems like we have as good a shot as any to land him.

Feels like the Elk is trying the Dumbo method of going after majority OOS guys, but it isn't going to work.  Those other two Georgia commits won't last.

Their recruiting has been extremely national this cycle, look at Georgia, Florida, and California.

Kind of doubt that they are upset about this decommitment. My guess is that he was processed.

Do any players ever get a bag to go away? 💰

They say that he helped with a commitment this past cycle and he seems happy to go. Sounds like someone who was paid to go away.

1 Sadly, no one could understand it.

2 See what I mean? A&M being heavy beyond the state of Texas. Prose.

3 Double negatives require patience to decipher. I wonder if his article about the commitment was so gloomy.

This is a tradition the Aggies have. Some loss or disaster happens but they feel it is somewhat diminished if it wasn't a surprise. It's very common in their recruiting coverage and parrot posting.

Well, we knew this was going to happen so losing a recruit/game/natty isn't really a big deal. We knew hitting an iceberg that tore along the side of the ship would sink us, so drowning or freezing to death is not big deal.

Why do these kids commit so early, laments fan of team whose coaches beg players to commit early and pressure them to commit early so they and fans can claim momentum.

I guess they do it so they can crow about their high recruiting ranking in the spring and early summer. Then the wings catch fire and they finish barely in the top ten. Their team never does, so they have to have something.

I mean, the same dynamic plays out during the season, too, so why not?

There's a reason why the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders lists Battered Aggie Syndrome. It's a real phenomenon. Easily the most entertaining mental health disorder on the planet. Although, watching a group therapy session with Tourette's Syndrome patients is pretty good, too. But I don't think a thread about it could come even close to this one for making me laugh.

Is it really a decommitment if it doesn’t say “with that being said …?”

They're still in a state of revelation from all of God's attention to their choice of schools and profoundly moved by their interaction with the coaches they're leaving to be expected to copy and paste with any skill at all.

They currently have eight commits for the class (all composite 4*'s), but they are all out of state.  I'm betting several of them will decommit in the coming months.  Most of these guys committed right after the "this is a real program" talk from the Elk.

Here’s a sad article that Tarp had to write, obviously under threat of violence towards his family, about the defensive draft prospects for 2026:

Texas A&M had three defensive linemen go to the 2025 NFL Combine in Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner. All three of them are expected to be no worse than second day draftees with Stewart moving into the top ten in some mock drafts and Scourton perhaps expected to possibly a day one selection as well.

However, despite the losses, the Aggies return most of their starting lineup from their 2024 unit that might mean better things in 2025 and perhaps as many defenders going to the 2026 NFL Combine. Gigem 247's Jeff Tarpley spoke with ESPN Central Texas radio host Glenn "Stretch" Smith about who was coming back on defense and what to expect from the biggest names on that side of the ball that make them draftable for next year.

We'll start on the inside. Albert Regis is someone who started alongside Turner. He looks a little undersized at first glance but is actually much bigger than you think. He's about 6-foot-1, 6-foot-2, maybe 320 pounds. He's a very agile interior lineman. He is hot necessarily a guy with a lot of get-off that comes up the field but someone who can move up and down the line of scrimmage, moves well laterally, and makes plays all over.

The breakout guy for 2025 may well be on the outside. Cashius Howell (transfer from Bowling Green) had a good bowl game against USC. He had a couple of sacks, half a dozen pressures, and an interception. Howell was a real force for a unit that was missing Scourton, Stewart, and Turner as well as some other guys due to injury. Given his size right now, 240 to 245 pounds, he may be more of a 3-4 type of outside linebacker at the next level as opposed to a 4-3 defensive end but he fits A&M's scheme well.

You've got the Mike backer, Taurean York, who had a very good freshman campaign but wasn't quite as good this year due to various issues, most of which weren't of his own making. He's someone to keep an eye on but probably not for the 2026 Combine.

Scooby Williams, the Florida transfer, had a nice year in 2024. He's an off-the-ball backer to watch out for. He was much improved and became more of a line of scrimmage, downhill player. He is probably going to test well in a combine setting.

Bryce Anderson, one of the A&M safeties is a veteran who has started a lot of games and played a lot of football. He has been a nickel and a safety. He was dinged last year but should be able to show more of what he can offer you going forward. He is another one who should have a good combine.

Will Lee, the big corner who returned the interception for a touchdown against Texas is a guy that's going to get scouts' attention just because he is 6-foot-3. He is a big guy. He likes to get physical, jack receivers up, and make them feel like they're running routes in a phone booth. He is not going to beat you in a sprint but on the other hand he is going to make your life extremely difficult to catch the football. He's going to measure out well. The issue is how well he tests out but that is a totally different thing and that's something to worry about in March 2026 as opposed to the fall of 2025.

Overall, if A&M has a lot more players that are going to be NFL-worthy and combine-ready a year from now, those will be the guys that make it happen.

I love how 3/5 guys mentioned get the caveat that they don’t have NFL athleticism/measurables, but Tarp concludes that these are the guys that could be NFL ready next season. What ever happened to DJ Hicks, wouldn’t he be the natural guy to mention here since he’ll be draft eligible? Do they have a single defensive player who’s definitively better than say, Liona Lefau?
